What a fabulous part of the world!
Sep 2021
My partner Tony and I have just done this tour and it was the most amazing experience for the two of us. David our driver was very knowledgeable of all the areas we visited and went out of his way to ensure that we saw some historically outstanding places and spectacular scenery on our travels to and from Edinburgh, in the Highlands and during our stay on the Orkney's. We certainly packed in a lot during the five days, and Dave took us to many wonderful locations in his 'go anywhere bus'. We chose the bed and breakfast option and we found all the accommodation to be of a high standard and the hosts friendly and accommodating. We also were able to book an evening meal at each location but would strongly recommend that where possible you book ahead at the restaurant of your choice etc. A big thank you to David and we certainly would recommend this tour.

The best way to see the North of Scotland and Orkney
This tour was exceptional, and I was impressed at how much we managed to pack in in 5 days. We did a lot of driving but this was helpfully broken up with a variety of stops and activities, not to mention the breathtaking scenery along the way. I usually suffer from motion sickness on long journeys but I had no issues here whatsoever.

Our tour guide, Sean , was wonderful - a veritable raconteur- and had a phenomenal amount of knowledge interspersed with lots of amusing anecdotes which kept us entertained throughout the trip. I would also like to extend my thanks to Rabbies who stepped in straight away to secure accommodation for me after an unfortunate experience at one of the hotels I had independently booked (top tip - let Rabbies sort your accommodation rather than booking it yourself).

I would thoroughly recommend Rabbies (and Sean) and am planning on doing the 5 day Highland Explorer trip next. Thanks again for a a wonderful trip.

Great Way to See and Learn about the Orkneys
Jul 2021
I’ve wanted to go to the Orkneys for a while but I wanted to wait until the weather was kinder, and so when I decided to go up to Scotland again in the summer I knew it was time - midges be damned!

The trip to the Orkneys is a great way to see everything on the islands. It’s such an interesting place, I didn’t really know much about it but all the Norse and Picktish history was fascinating.

There is A LOT of driving on this tour - especially once you get back off Orkney and are driving along the North Coast. However, Catty made sure we got off the bus as much as possible and showed us some great sights along the coast and there are places a Rabbie’s bus can get that other larger tour operators just won’t be able to get to.

Catty was the perfect guide - I don’t know how she’s managed to save so much information in her head. She is so friendly and really made the trip enjoyable and showed us so many great spots. She clearly loves the Orkneys and though she’s probably done this tour so many times it never felt like she was reading from the script. All Rabbie’s guides are great, but Catty really did help make this trip something special.

I highly recommend the Orkneys and North Coast tour, you will experience some breathtaking scenery and learn so much about how history has shaped this part of the world. It really is a great tour - just beware of those midges!

Incredible tour of Orkney and Scotland's North Coast
Oct 2020
What an incredible tour! I was on the 10 day Orkney and Outer Hebrides tour so I was only with this group for 4 of the 5 days where I had a day in Ullapool to myself, but those 4 days were wonderful. We saw so many places even though many businesses and museums/churches, etc. were closed and hospitality restrictions meant no distillery tours or tastings, and limited options for food at restaurants, pubs and cafes.

None of these things stopped me from having a great time. Our guide Nick customised the tour to our preferences as a group (which were all similar) and I didn't feel anything was lacking. We were able to spend more time in places and able to take everything in, and Nick added some stops in that were suited to the group.

Orkney was stunning. Nick grew up in Orkney so he had so much knowledge to offer us which felt extra special. Lots of history and peaceful hills and landscapes, and cliffs with crashing ocean waves. I picked this 10 day Orkney & Outer Hebrides tour because I will be leaving Scotland soon and wanted to visit a few more places I had not yet been to in my time here, and I was able to tick off so many places, more than I expected, off a list of places I was hoping to see.

Covid safety measures were top notch - masks, sanitiser readily available, distancing on and off the bus as well as an order of how we hopped on an off the bus meant I felt as ease.

Admittedly, I thought Rabbies would be just another tour company where the tour would be standard, by the book, no time to slow down and enjoy each place you stop in, but I couldn't have been more wrong! Both Nick and my second guide Barney (for the 5 day Outer Hebrides and Skye tour I joined after the Orkney tour) were genuinely lovely, had a wealth of knowledge, were really down to earth and seemed to genuinely love their jobs, which made the tour even better. Both Nick and Barney were fantastic drivers and I felt very safe in their capable hands on the bus.

I feel really fortunate and want to thank Rabbie's and their guides for all their wonderful work to continue providing their tours for people like myself who would not be able to visit most of these locations on my own.

RABBIES in general
Aug 2019 • Couples
If you want to really experience the beauty and history of Scotland, go on a RABBIES tour. Any tour. You will feel it.
Whilst we were on visits to Scotland from Canada, we were lucky to go on several trips with Rabbies. We now live in Scotland, and eager to see and experience more, we still go with Rabbies.
Once the lockdown in raised and it is safe to do so, we will continue to travel with Rabbies.
The trips are thoughtful and well-planned. The driver/tour leaders are passionate about Scotland( they are also superb drivers and leaders). The drivers are very well informed about the places they take. The small buses are a great idea for the small villages.
Rabbies is a well rounded tour company.
All adult ages use Rabbies. We are seniors, and feel quite comfortable on these tours
Thank you RABBIES,

Orkney & Scotland’s Northern Coast - 5 day tour
Oct 2019 • Friends
As the last Orkney tour of the season, our tour group was only 4 travelers, but Rabbie’s was true to their promise and did not cancel, for which I am so grateful. The crowds were gone, the weather is fine and cool, the lighting is warm, and we could stretch a bit more time at a favored stop. Our guide and driver, David, was so personable as well as knowledgeable of the history and geography, and really made the experience exceptional; he even had a playlist of Scottish music as our soundtrack during the drive. One of the great things about this particular tour is the balance of well-known sites versus quiet roads and vistas (ex: Loch Ness via backroad to Falls of Foyer). While just watching the gorgeous scenery go by was a joy, the stops were calculated so there was always a castle or historical monument or natural wonder to explore; Dunrobin (Rapunzel towers), Culloden Moor (Jacobite battles), Smoo’s Cave (smugglers), Clara Cairns (standing stone circles). But the Orkney Islands are truly the highlight of this tour. With the amazing Skara Brae, an intact Neolithic village, Maeshowe, a 4,000 year old ceremonial chamber with Viking graffiti, and Stones of Stenness being aligned in a circular format for celestial focus, it just is astounding how immersed you can be to early civilization. And then, the sheep which are grazing next to these priceless sites, will go up and rub their backs against them to scratch their itch, which just makes you laugh at the absurdity of such an occurrence. It’s just these unexpected moments in such natural beauty which make it such an amazing trip.

Stunning scenery
Oct 2019
We just returned home from tour. Our guide Iain was excellent, very knowledgeable and we were able to see places that we would have missed if we’d attempted on our own. My 39 year old son joined us on the tour and I know he thought it was going to be a coach full of old folks. He thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The bed and breakfasts that were booked for were all excellent. Great way to see northern Scotland without worrying about driving on the wrong side!
