What to Expect
Begin your tour when you meet your driver/guide and climb aboard a top-of-the-range, 16-seat Mercedes mini-coach for a morning departure from Edinburgh's city center. Follow in the ancient Romans' footsteps with a stop in Jedburgh to visit the ruins of the 12th-century Augustinian abbey before continuing to Carter Bar to see the Anglo-Scottish border. After crossing into England, enjoy a scenic drive through Northumberland National Park. The next stop is Steel Rigg, one of the richest Roman archaeological sites in Britain. Enjoy free time to explore Hadrian's Wall, the 73-mile-long (117-kilometer-long) cobbled fortification built to separate Scotland from the Roman Empire. Next stop at Vindolanda where you can explore the museum, and to have lunch break (own expense). After visiting Birdoswald to see one of the best-preserved Roman forts on Hadrian’s Wall, it's back to Edinburgh where your tour concludes.

  • Luggage Allowance: You're restricted to 14kg (31lbs) of luggage per person on our tours. This should be one piece of luggage similar to an airline carry-on bag (approximately 55cm x 45cm x 25cm / 22in x 17in x 10in) plus a small bag for onboard personal items.

  • Due to Covid19 restrictions, you will be able to visit Jedburgh Abbey after the 18th September 2020. During this time, this will be a photo stop only, no internal visit of the abbey is available.
  • For your optional Vindolanda/Jedburgh Abbey tickets you must reserve your time slot in advance. Please use the link printed on your voucher.
  • Most travellers can participate
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s cancelled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund
