Accompanied my partner for this tour as she was a much bigger fan of Outlander than me. However, the locations we visited were beautiful and weather was great for the most part!
Our guide, Tiegan, was a very bubbly and energetic lass who did a fantastic job of keeping us engaged and entertained (while being very informative of Scottish history) throughout the trip! She was also considerate and slowed down at certain spots so that we could get a better look at some attractions. On top of the itinerary, we were brought to some additional photo op spots that were on the way as we were ahead of schedule.
I would recommend to get the castle tickets through the tour group unless you were planning to visit other castles/sites of interest under the Explorer Pass. This would save you some time from buying tickets at the site itself, and there isn’t much to do otherwise if you do not go inside. Another tip is to bring a wired earpiece for the audio guide at Doune Castle, with some portions being voiced by the actor who played Jaime Fraser.
If I had to nitpick about something, I felt the time allocated to Doune Castle and Culross (where the first food break was) was a wee bit short and could be improved. However, this would not discourage us from recommending this tour to other fans of the Outlander series, and we would not mind checking out the other tours offered by this group next time.

If you want a day to "go through The Stones," this is the tour for you. The only thing missing is the actual Jamie Fraser. I suppose a Claire cameo would be nice, too, but really, it wouldn't matter when tour attendance is 90% women. (My tour guide, Euan, even admitted that Jamie is a pretty guy.)
I had a really good time at this all-day event. The bus went to plenty of the bullet points of "Outlander," including Doune Castle, Cranesmuir and Inverness. Some of the spots were in small neighborhoods that afforded time to have lunch, shop, snack and explore. I loved touring Doune Castle and discovering its enormity, complete with an individual audio tape that explained the details of every nook.
The bus was comfortable, included air conditioning and had USB plugs for every seat. As an American, I was happy to be in a bus that had passenger seat belts. The bus driver, Tony, did his job well, and peppered in his own sense of humor (when the bus was parked, of course).
My tour guide, Euan, was friendly and witty. He knew his share of "Outlander" storyline, but what I enjoyed more was his knowledge of Scottish history. In between bus stops, he touched on the history of witch trials, the story behind terms like "graveyard shift" and the sad life end of Bonnie Prince Charles. It was great to learn background of "Outlander" narrative , a great tour pairing, since "Outlander" is meant to be an accurate depiction of Scotland's rough road to independence.
It was wonderful to mix show locations with present-day neighborhoods. You'd never think that Jamie's childhood took place in an actual living space where people sell ice cream and kick back a pint.
The only negative of this tour is its strong push to watch "Outlander" all over. So, thank you,Highlander Explorer Tours, (Tony and Euan) for enabling a lot of unhealthy couch time. Nothing wrong with hearing men throw around a bit of Scottish accent, though. Maybe if I'd done more listening to what they said instead of listening to how they said it, I wouldn't have failed the quiz on the bus ride home.

Had an enjoyable day out visiting sites where Outlander was filmed. Unfortunately we are still with Covid about we were unable to access one of castles . We had Caitlin as our tour guide. Caitlin is so enthusiastic with her story telling and history of the Jacobites. The highlight of the day was Lallybroch. But had a good time walking around Falkland and the cottage craft shop. The owner showed us photos of the cast and the work that was done to the outside of his shop.

We had a brilliant time doing the Outlander tour. Our driver was Dusty and he provided lots of information both about the show and Scottish history. He was funny and clever and kept our spirits high even though it was a very rainy day! The weather didn’t make a difference as he made sure we saw everything we wanted to see and managed to make it fun. Really recommend whether you watch Outlander or not as it was very interesting, lots of lovely sights to see and very fun learning about the history. Nice music too!

The tour was great, Paul was fun and informative. The bus was comfortable and clean, and Paul had a great playlist 🎶 we had a full bus of 16 on the tour, but never felt crowded and we had time to talk to Paul whenever we wanted. The timetable was perfect, we never felt rushed at the locations and we kept the time perfectly. We recommend buying tickets to enter the castles, they were nice to visit, and interesting historically, not just because of outlander. Paul also arranged for a special guest surprise, which made for some great photo opporuntites ;)

Culross was a real highlight! And the guide at Blackness Castle, with the face of Dougal and the body of Jamie (in his own words). He reenacted every scene with invisible knifes and swords while yelling all the lines in both men's and women's voices. I also appreciated all the non-Otlander related storys the very knowledgeable guide told us throughout the day. A perfect experience!

Getting to see all the real-life backdrops from my favorite television shows was amazing (GOT and Outlander). We had the very best weather - no rain and bright sunshine - a blessing in Scotland. Bailey is the BEST tour guide!! He was cheerful and bright. We all had the best time. Who knew we would get a private show with bagpipe music from our own tour guide. How special!! So glad I booked and went on this tour.

Jada was an amazing guide and driver. Her energy and passion are invigorating, and she made everyone feel welcome. It was nice to have time to chat with her a bit as we walked, and I really enjoyed the Outlandern and general history facts she supplied at our stops and along the way.

I know that Doune Castle is closed right now but do we get to drive by it or look at it from the outside? Or is it just completely off the itinerary? Thanks in advance!

Written 12 March 2019
I booked my trip about 6 months ahead of time; however, there were a few openings on the Sunday we went. I do know the tours sell out fast. Our tour guide spoke only English. I'm not sure if audio tours in other languages were available.

How many travelers are seated in the motorcoach? Is the driver also acting as the guide?

There were maybe 40 people on the bus (2 per seat), which was very comfortable. The driver was our guide and she was delightful!
