Excellent start to the Royal Mile
Excellent selection of whiskey at affordable prices. Helpful menu and staff made it easy to check out whiskey options except that the large selection took a while to review. Staff picks would have helped

      Whisky, Whisky, Whisky
My brother picked this activity, I'm not a big whisky drinker, but it was interesting learning about how scotch whisky is made and the different regions/taste it comes from. We're from KY and had no idea they used barrels from the distillery's there. Great tour!

      Excellent tour/show
Enjoyed the tour. Max our tour guide was excellent, as well as Billy in the Amber restaurant, who was happy to talk about whisky. Max was really helpful with information as well as sorting out what whisky we wanted to buy.

Loved every minute - gold tour worth every penny
My parents and I took the gold tour at the Scotch Whiskey Experience and loved every minute. We were taken around by Becca who was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She made the experience very special and personal. Can't wait to visit again when back in Edinburgh!

      Visually Impressive Tour
Very unique and interesting tour. If you already know things about whisky, its perhaps a little basic - but for those with little or no knowledge of whiskey or the regions provides a great oversight. The special effects were fantastic and guide very helpful. The silver package is more of an experience than a whisky tasting - but the bar afterwards was very reasonably priced.

      Whiskey tasting and food pairing
We had a whiskey tasting and pairing with a food experience. There were only four of us and Abi was our guide. She was very knowledgeable and kept everyone engaged throughout the 1 hour. For anyone that likes whiskey this is a great thing to do

      Thanks Alexis
Alexis was our guide and she was FANTASTIC. The tour is really quite innovative in its delivery, I was impressed. The venue is so lovely. Tasting was great fun. I came away feeling like I’d learned a lot. But she was great…..even spending time with us at the end of the tour chatting….lots of knowledge…..very charming.

      Platinum Tour - amazing experience
Amazing informative easy to follow tour conducted by Kev, you learn how to taste, firing up the senses to each of the unique areas for whisky/Scotland as well as sampling some different whisky’s which gives you a total appreciation. Kev was very friendly, helpful and hosted a great fun tour. We stayed on having booked the taster dining experience which was really very good, food was excellent as was the service - plus another measure of whisky with dessert! If you have any doubts about doing this - push the doubts away. Go and enjoy, immerse yourself in the whisky world, you won’t regret it.

Worth a visit even if you are not a whiskey enthusiast!
We were in luck so we were the only ones during our tour so we had our guide Sy to ourselves. We did this tour during our final day in Edinburgh and we cannot recommend it enough! It was interesting even for myself that isn’t a huge whiskey fan - I’ll definitely give whiskey a new chance now that I understand the craft. I especially enjoyed how it was not only about whiskey itself but also about Scotlands nature.

      Unique experience.
After visiting Castle, we went to this unique place showcasing the rich history of Scotch Whisky, impressive ambience, precise presentation by young guide coupled with jokes, it was a memorable experience in understanding the story of Scotch Whisky, it's origin, growth and complexity, it was almost two hours exposure, culminating with visit to inhouse shop and unique gifts to us. There is an admission ticket and it is worth the visit.

Fun and interesting if you like scotch.
We did the Silver tour and it was about an hour. We learned all about how the whiskey is made and how the process works. Jenny was our guide and she was so amazing and you could tell she knows what she's talking about. You only get to choose 1 whiskey to taste so if you want more go for the gold packages but how they narrow you down from 5 is kinda fun too.

Great experience. We booked the platinum tour and would 100% recommend. Well worth the price. Our tour guide was Kev and he was amazing. Answered questions and was friendly and knowledgeable. Made the experience fun and enjoyable. A credit to his role. Ever suggested some distillery’s for us to try when we leave Edinburgh.

My daughter and I paid for the Gold Tour for the following day and specifically mentioned to the gentleman booking our tour we will visit tomorrow after visiting the castle. He confirmed our request we paid and left looking forward to visiting the following day. The following day we queued up excitedly and at the desk were informed by someone called Lenka that our booking was not for the day we had arrived but was booked for the previous day. we explained to her that this can not be right as we had definitely booked for the day we were there and had not missed our booking. At first it seemed she was not believing us so I showed her the bank payment for the tour in my phone and told her i had left the receipt at the hotel she said well if you had the receipt it would clarify which date the booking was for as it would have a date, this we found out later was a lie as I checked the receipt later at the hotel and it did not have the date just the amount. We were highly disappointed and she refused to fit us in for the day and said we will need to go back the following day to get the tour. we explained we are booked for other events the next day and can not make it and she replied well i can’t fit you in today so you will have to come back tomorrow. With this kind of unfair pressure we said the mistake lies with the booking not us so can we please have a refund she refused saying she can not refund us because the company is not making enough money now at this point it seemed quite strange that a company is refusing a refund to its customer based on the fact that the company is losing out. I found her behaviour quite odd and her refusal to refund even more weird. On returning to the hotel my daughter phoned the company explained what had happened and said it is impossible for us to visit as we are already booked for other events and lenka did not refund and put pressure on us to visit inspite of our pleas and requests, the lady on the phone was brilliant and extremely understanding (we didn’t give her Lenka’s name) just told her we were refused a refund. She immediately said no problem will refund you today and she followed it up with an email. This is all that needed to be done the day before but we were instead put under pressure and stress, refused a refund and forced to come back again the following day.

The lady that helped us with the refund is called Eilidh Hamilton. Thank you Eilidh for your help and understanding. Much appreciated.

Visiting in a semi-professional capacity, using the site as a best practice case study, I was amazed at the level of enthusiasm and professionalism in every member of staff. I had the opportunity to meet many staff and enjoyed the innovative, modern tour tremendously.

As a manager working within the Tourism sector, I would highly recommend this experience to all; from solo travellers to families, regardless of whether you are a whisky enthusiast or not.

The site is probably one of the best examples of 5 Star Tourist Attractions in the entire country and operational efficiencies and staff conduct run parallel to that which I have only experienced in Mandarin Oriental & Four Seasons! My deepest thanks to the entire team today, particularly Dave! Kieran Burns

There are lots of ‘Whiskey Experience’ shops and attractions to choose from - we were tipped off by a local guide that this one was the best of the bunch. We really enjoyed the experience, and chose the ‘Gold Tour’ which is actually great value. The little automated tour is kinda fun, and the the two short presentations before the whiskey tasting were good. We had five whiskeys to taste - so make sure you’ve had lunch / something to eat before you arrive! We’d recommend booking the Gold Tour, but avoid buying whiskey in the gift shop, the same stuff is cheaper in the supermarket...

Tour started with a 5 minute audio/visual experience replicating the distillery process, moving onto a discussion of the geographic regions of Scotland and how it influences Scotch Whisky, and then onto a introduction to Blended whisky and sampling. The main tour ended in a private collection in excess of 3,000 bottles where our host Lucy C answered any questioned from the group.
Throughout the tour Lucy was informative, clear spoken and funny, clearly having a good time with the tour group.
I'd recommend this tour for anyone with even a passing interest in whisky with a desire to broaden their horizons. For those with more developed tastes there is an extensive range in the bar which I have visited on a regular basis over the years, without the need to take a tour. The prices are very reasonable (especially for a Royal Mile venue) the staff have excellent knowledge, are always friendly and generally seem to enjoy what they do.

Cody was our tour guide and he was brilliant. Even during covid and having to conduct his tour with less people all masked up he carried it off beautifully. My husband and I attended for his belated 50th birthday and we had a great time. I would highly recommend the gold tour even if you are not a whisky drinker as it’s all about the experience. Really good fun and covid guidelines very well met. We had a drink in the bar before hand and the staff we’re lovely and also great knowledge of the produce. Highly recommend.

We booked the silver tour on a whim when our plans fell through and weren't sure what exactly to expect, but it ended up being a highlight of our trip!

Jethro our guide was so enthusiastic and friendly, and we ended up leaning a lot without ever feeling like we were being lectured to and having a lot of fun. I particularly liked the scratch and sniff cards of the 5 whisky producing regions and the whisky glass you get as a souvenir from the tour is a really nice touch. We came as one complete beginner and one occasional whisky drinker and really had our eyes opened to the various whiskies out there and what goes in to making them.

The shop is really well stocked and very reasonably priced (I got several presents) and we ended up having a good chat with the two men serving on the till who really knew their stuff and made some excellent suggestions for whiskies to try in the future. All the staff we spoke to were so friendly and knowledgable, and it's so nice to visit a place where people genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs!

The silver tour only takes an hour and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh who wants to learn a little more about whisky or just do something a little bit different.

    Scotch Whisky Experience Review:
This plays is amazing when it comes to learning about the unique process of making whisky, how Scotland whisky regions are divided up and gives you the chance to try a whisky yourself.
First of all you are taken onto a ride, it is just nice way and more modern way on how to tell the story of whisky making.
Then you are taken into a small section which gives you more information on the maturation stage and gives some fun facts as well.
You are then taken into a cinema room where you are shown a series of clips of Scotland's amazing scenery in each of the 5 whisky regions:
    1. Highland
    2. Speyside
    3. Islay
    4. Lowland, and
    5. Campbelltown
A tour guide also mentions what type of ingredients are used in each region that makes the different brand names unique from each other.
You are then taken into a seated room where you are told how blended whiskys are made and get to choose what whisky from one region you would like to taste, but you you do not drink it at that time.
You then are taken into the final section of the tour which you stand in the biggest collection of whisky bottles in the world, and there you get taught how whisky coniseurs drink the whisky to get the best out of the flavours.
Throughout the whole time you are treated by the most wonderful staff, they very knowledgeable, and are willing to give you more information a whisky that you see interest in.
This attraction is rated 5 stars in the Scottish Tourist Board and is also awarded a gold award from Green Tourism, due to the level of accessibility for disabled people.
This is a must see attraction, especially if you are into your whisky or even if you are not as I went in with a friend who does not like it, however still enjoyed the experience from the tour.

What fun! I wasn't expecting much because we had already done a "whiskey" experience in Dublin a couple years ago, but we really enjoyed our Scotch Whisky Experience with our guide, Gregor! We initially only came inside to look at the gift shop as I'm not a whisky drinker. But it was a rainy, early dark winter evening, so when they had room in the next tour we decided to join in at the silver level.

When the tour was called to begin, it felt like we were being led onto Disneyland's Haunted Mansion ride! We climbed into a ride car and rode along while learning how Scottish whisky is made as narrated by a ghostly character. When the ride ended, I told the worker that helped us off how it felt like Disneyland and she replied, "It's 'malt" Disney!"

Next, we went into a movie room where we were given scratch and sniff cards while Gregor explained how the distilleries in different regions of Scotland have different flavor notes due to the environment of the water. We then went into a room where we each took a seat in front of a tasting glass. There we learned about blended whisky. There were lighted dots around the glasses representing the five different whisky regions and one for blended. Based on what we learned, we each put our glass on a spot to get a pour of the whisky we wanted to taste.

Finally, we headed into a room where we were surrounded by loads of whisky bottles in glass cases and talked more about whisky. Then it was time to say Slàinte Mhath as we tasted what was in our glasses. I could really taste the mild smoky peat and vanilla notes in mine from Campbeltown.

It really was a good value and lots of fun - especially for those just learning about scotch whisky. Plus, you get to keep the glass!

This is definitely a bit of a tourist trap and it is a bit on the pricey side. Having said that I found it very interesting and I wasn’t disappointed. There is a ride in a "barrel" that takes you up to where the guide is waiting for you. The barrel ride was a bit naff but there is a running commentary throughout the ride that is informative and explains the basics of whisky production, and the visual displays were a bit of fun. At the end of the barrel ride you'll be met by the guide who takes you into a room where you'll be told about the different regions that make whisky and the differences between those different types of whisky. Then you'll get a bit more detail on the production process before moving into a tasting room where you can sample a whisky. The display of a very large number of very rare whiskies in this room is stunning. The tour ends in the shop where there are a very large number of single malts and blends available to buy. You can just go the shop if you don't want to do the tour.

The tour is probably not your thing if you have a strong aversion to tourist traps but if you are a whisky enthusiast or if you just want to find out more about how it is produced then it's a good thing to do.

My sister (not a fan of whisky) and I (just a beginner) went spontaneous on a rainy afternoon and caught free spots go on the next Silver tour with just a 10 min wait. The staff is super friendly, helpful and multilingual. The tour is very well presented, lots of love for detail and you can really notice the passion that the Scots have for their whisky, which gets you even if you don`t want to drink it. Of course its made for tourists, but it does not feel like mainstream blabla and also the locals (like myself) can really enjoy it. Its just completely fine if you don't want to try the whisky (you get a soft drink) during the tour and if you want to you can choose which one (examples from every region) and take the glass home afterwards.
