About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Q7395JAcheryls0 contributionsGreat e-bike trip with JohannJohann was amazing 🤩 and this was the highlight of our trip in Edinburgh. There was only 2 of us (me and my husband Eric) for that day due to the time of the year October with unpredictable weather conditions. When we met at our hotel for the pickup at exact time arranged, we started the amazing 5 hours e-bike trip (total of approx 21 miles). Johann is like an old friends as we had endless conversations. He’s super friendly and we have a lot of things in common. He did a great job introducing us the city/history/geographic of Edinburgh during the bike trip. We had so much fun with Johann. Highly recommended to everyone to check out the city of Edinburgh with Johann on e-bike.Written 30 October 2024
- vios3520 contributionsGreat biking experienceOur family had a fantastic time on the Sky to Sea bike tour in Edinburgh with our guide, Johann! He was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring we were well taken care of throughout the tour. We rode to the Salisbury Crags near Arthur’s Seat from the city center, then continued to Portobello Beach and the Port of Leith. If you're a fan of outdoor biking, one of Johann's tours is a must! We highly recommend it.Written 9 October 2024
- jeanneo20140 contributionsAwesome ebike trip through Trossachs!Johann was such a great guide; knowledgeable, professional, super friendly with a great sense of humor. The tour started with a visit to Linlithgow Palace which was breathtaking. Johann shared a funny story about the dog statue in town; ask him about it. We began riding in the rain which was actually pretty invigorating, but it only lasted about 5 minutes after which the sun came out making it an absolutely gorgeous day. We rode through Trossachs National Park which is stunning. We stopped for several photo ops and ended going to Doune Castle which seemingly is hidden behind a typical neighborhood. Additionally, the bikes were a dream to operate. A trip to remember!Written 1 October 2024
- kaylasL5806DG0 contributionsBest Bike Tour in EdinburghAmazing experience with Johann on the bike tour. Johann is funny, knowledgeable, and well-prepared. He was patient and encouraging with a beginner to biking and made it safe and comfortable. He kept us off of the busy streets and most of the tour was on bike paths. We learned so many interesting things about the city on the tour. Not only did he pick us up from our Airbnb, he went out of his way to take us out of town to where we were staying for the night because it was on his way to somewhere he was going personally. We will definitely be booking another tour with Johann next time we are in Edinburgh. Bonuses- great snacks, great photographer, dad jokes, pleasure to be around.Written 30 September 2024
- Y6386EPjulies0 contributionsPerfect Bike Rental! We can highly recommend Tartan bikes and Johann especially! The service was perfect, he made sure that we have everything, bikes were in a great condition, he also lent us lights, tools, spare tubes and a repair kit, a pump and a phone holder and we could also left our luggage in his car. Easy communication, he brought the bikes where we wanted and then picked them up again. Very friendly and helpful, thank you! The bikes almost rode themselves 🙂Written 29 September 2024
- kmofun0 contributionsHighlight of ScotlandThs was the HIGHLIGHT of our time in Scotland. We ebiked from the cruise port to Edinburgh. It was a custom tour through beautiful country right to the Royal Mile where our guide showed us where to go and how to get back later that evening to our cruise port. He is an expert biker and knowledge of Edinburgh. Do not miss out on this adventure!Written 27 September 2024
- elainenA8381WS0 contributionsEdinburgh bike tourThe bike tour was amazing. We saw sights in Edinburgh we would not have seen on foot. Johann was a fantastic tour guide. Would definitely recommend.Written 25 September 2024
- Susan C0 contributionsShore was a great tripOverall GREAT day! Saw lots of interesting things and enjoyed the camaraderie of Johann and fellow cyclists. The water bottles were in the carry bag of one of the other cyclists and I would have appreciated easier access to the water bottles. Johann was great-Written 21 September 2024
- Holly-Jade R0 contributionsIncredible Tour & Johann is Amazing!!An incredible day! Johann is absolutely wonderful and I had a real good laugh with him on the way round to the many beautiful sites we saw on tour! - glennsD8030ID0 contributionsA bucket list experience to learn about the geography, culture and history of Edinburgh.Johann's 17 mile Sky to Sea Bike Tour was a fantastic complement to roaming Edinburgh by foot during the Festival Fringe. Among the 6 of us, only two had extensive biking experience. But we all found the pace, the beautiful sites across Edinburgh, and Johann's commentary perfect for our group of first-time visitors. Absolutely a bucket list experience to learn about the geography, culture and history of Edinburgh while touring in a cycling-friendly environment.Written 18 September 2024
- SpeeandDee0 contributionsTouring Bicycle RentalWe rented bicycles from Tartan for our own self propelled and self guided tour of Scotland. From the get go Johann was helpful and we sorted out arrangements via email. Everything went as planned including dropping the bikes off at our hotel in Edinburgh and picking them up in downtown Glasgow at the end of our tour. The bikes and gear (panniers) worked flawlessly. Top marks for Johann who was both helpful and knowledgeable.Written 18 September 2024

- vacationsareamazing0 contributionsA lovely ride in and around Edinburgh!A group of us did the Edinburgh Sky to Sea Bike Tour in August. The ride was just under 17 miles, mainly on bike paths. Johan was super informative, kind, and made sure that all of us were safe and stayed together. It was a wonderful way to get out of the city center and view scenic areas of Edinburgh that we would not have ventured to on our own. The e-bikes were a perfect way to travel around. Highly recommend!Written 13 September 2024
- 647carlaw0 contributionsFabulous tour of Scotland by Bike!We wanted to see Scotland in a more personal way and Johann made that possible. We did both his city tour and the Scottish Highland tour and we were not disappointed. He adds a personal touch to his tours making you feel welcome and hospitable. The Highland tour was a bikers dream of combining beautiful scenery, and history along the way. He provides both Manuel and e-bikes so any ability could participate in this journey. It’s a memorable way to experience Scotland. Thanks Johann!Written 6 September 2024
- Casey C0 contributionsWonderful TourThis was an amazing tour. Really got to see parts of Edinburgh that only locals know about. Beautiful scenery throughout. Some steep climbs, but I know my limits and had reserved an electric bike. Johan was a wonderful guide. Will also mention that most of the tour is on designated bike trails.Written 30 August 2024

We had such a wonderful time on the tour. We saw many sights we wouldn't have been able to find on our own and got some awesome pictures. Would 10/10 recommend doing a tour whether you're a local or visiting from out of town. The hospitality was phenomenal and Johann is a fantastic tour guide, it feels like being shown the city by one of your friends. I also highly recommend the E-Bike it makes the experience so much more fun. Definitely dress warm though! I assumed I would warm up while pedaling but since the E-bikes can go pretty fast the wind chill was still pretty cold. Just be prepared but don't let the cold weather stop you!

This was such a great experience in Edinburgh. We had a group ranging from ages 14 - 63. Johan made it very enjoyable for us. We were first picked up in the van. Some of us had to take a taxi due to our group being so large. In total, our bike ride was 21 miles. If you are not an experienced bike rider or do not exercise regularly, I would highly recommend renting the e-bikes. Most of us were beginner/intermediate, and having the e-bikes made the trip mildly challenging while also allowing us to enjoy all of the stops we made along the route. We had three more athletic people in our group use the manual bikes. They said it was enjoyable, but difficult. Picture a good workout :) I really enjoyed it and would recommend it for all levels of bike riders.

We had a private tour heading over to the bridges. We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage children. Johann was excellent from picking us up, to guiding us around the estates and engaging with our children to make sure they got the best out of the tour as well. Great knowledge, great guide, great bikes and a fantastic day out. Well recommended.

I arranged a trip to Edinburgh for my husband as a birthday gift and I booked this tour as the main event on his birthday and it was awesome
Definitely a 5/5. The views were amazing and you get to see the wonders of Scotlands nature. The cycling made it so much more fun than just going to the suburbs by car, we got the e bikes and even though I was out of shape I didn't get tierd and Johan was so friendly with alot of fun facts for the tour.I would definitely recommend the tour and would book again with Johan if I come back.Btw ask Johan all about the pubs and restaurants he knows hidden gems.

I took my parents on The Bridges bike tour this July in Edinburgh. The ride was fantastic! Johann did a great job touring us along the waterfront and up to the bridges at the Firth of Forth. Stopped for a delicious sandwich and some coffee to fuel our return trip home. Scotland has lots of rolling hills and Johann takes plenty of breaks, but if you’re questioning your abilities opt for the E-Bike!

This was our second tour with Johann and his Tartan Bicycle Company
With the tour starting from the beautiful setting of Silverknowes beach, cycling alongside the Firth of Forth coast, before heading through the pretty village of Cramond, then on through the stunning landscape of the Dalmeny Estate, home to Dalmeny House and Barnbougle Castle. With just a short ride through Queensferry you are now in touching distance of the Firth of Forth Bridges and the sight is well worth the effort, although to be fair not much effort is required on the E-Bikes we used. Johann is very informative guide and with us being frequent visitors to Edinburgh I’m sure we’ll be checking out his tours in the future.
Thanks Johann, Best Wishes Damian & Julienne

I hired bikes as a surprise for my husband this weekend and it was a fantastic decision! Johann dropped off and collected the bikes from our doorstep and explained everything we needed. My husband and I haven't cycled in 10 years but Johann filled us with confidence by showing us various routes on a map and we made full use of the bikes over 2 days despite weather changes! Johann was extremely friendly and willing to assist as much as he could. I will definitely be hiring again and recommending to all! It's a wonderful way to explore the city, get exercise and make long lasting memories. Thanks Johann!

Unbelievable time in the rain with Johann and my dad. Our 16.5 mile trip was amazing. This trip was well planned and we saw places we wouldn’t see on a bus. The ride was effortless with the e-bike. Johann told great stories and gave great information about all areas. I was so excited when I turned the corner and there was the beach. I was just amazed at all the things I learned.

Johan made this experience absolutely easy, charmingly breathtaking. It was easy in that he conveniently picked us up at our hotel, he had all the equipment we needed for an easy and fun ride. The tour that was routed was an easy and relaxing ride through some interesting stops and beautiful countryside. This tour is a must for anyone who wants to really see and experience all that is great about Scotland.
