    Best way to explore Edinburgh
I brought a group of 10 people to Edinburgh in May 2024, and chose the Eat Walk Tour as our main activity to get to know the area and also try out some fun culinary treats. This was our fourth tour that year and by far the best one. Wag led an incredible tour that was fantastic, engaging and fun. I highly recommend.

    business group
In march 2024 we visited Edinburgh with a business group. During our stay we enjoyed a walking food tour through Edinburgh. Our guests really enjoyed the tour, the food and the information along the way. For us as event organizer the whole process from first contact to the tour itself was professional and contributed in our choice for this tour. Special thanks to Sara for helping us along the way!

Best day in Edinburg and one of the best tours ever!
Everything about our tour was perfect! To begin, Wag — our guide, was wonderfully nice, extremely knowledgeable, and able to answer the questions we had about the food and Edinburgh. The pace between walking and eating/drinking at the next establishment made for an easy stroll and provided time to learn about the city in between the food and drink. The tour was the favorite thing we did on our trip and it was worth every cent. Sara reached out to us to provide information shortly after booking the tour and we felt we were in good hands from the start. Finally, make sure to try the haggis — you won’t regret it!

    Food and Drink Walking tour
This was a great way to experience different types of food os Scotland. It was three different restaurants and just enough time to try the dishes and experience great food. The service was great at these restaurants. Our guide explained the different food we’re about to try. I loved each of the restaurant as they each had a different atmosphere. Also each restaurant were close together but enough to get out and walk to see a little of the town

Fabulous experience walking, eating and drinking around New Town and Old Town. Highly recommend our private guide Wag.
Wag met us in our hotel lobby, which was super convenient. We walked from Haymarket, through the West End into New Town and then Old Town. We stopped at four unique and non-touristy places over four hours and had delicious and authentic Scottish dishes, ales and whisky. Ended at Sandy Bell’s for another pint and live music. Wag is very knowledgeable about Edinburgh history, architecture and culture. Wag is great company. Wonderful way to start our vacation in Scotland! Highly recommend going with a private guide!

Food tour and guide were excellent!
Best food tour we have ever been on and we usually do a food tour on every trip. The places our guide, Ian, took us were really nice and beautiful spots. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Edinburgh!

    A Taste of Edinburgh
Visiting from California we wanted a tour that would let us see Edinburgh from a local perspective and to sample some food and drink. The tour did not disappoint. Our guide was Wag and he was fun and knowledgeable about the city he loves to call home. We met in Old Town and ended in New Town where we traveled to three different local restaurants and a private whiskey tasting club. The food and drink selections were chosen by Wag and they were all delicious. Wag relayed the history of the places we visited and we were able to imagine what life might have been like in this lively city both past and present. He brought the city to life. The walk was enjoyable and we went at a comfortable pace. We highly recommend this tour.

Book this tour! A trip highlight for our party of 7.
10/10 recommend! We loved our tour guide Al- he made the experience for our whole family! We were a party of 7 and he was so kind, accommodating, knowledgeable of the city, and an all around treasure. The food was absolutely amazing- just right so you are full but not too stuffed- our favorite was the sticky toffee pudding at the end, the BEST. The drinks were also amazing. If you are considering this tour, do yourself a favor and book it! You will get the perfect afternoon of culture, food, sight-seeing and meet some great new friends along the way.

Surprised by Haggis & Blood Sausage!
We reserved a private tour with Eat Walk Edinburgh and this food tasting was one of the highlights of our trip to Scotland. Our tour guide Mhairi was amazing! So knowledgeable and professional about history, culture and Scottish delicacies and scotch. The haggis and blood sausage were surprisingly delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed all of our food and beverage stops and were very full at the end of the evening.

    Great experience
Tilly was an amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable about Edinburgh and its great history and food & drinks. She was easy to talk to and was fun for our group of 4 retired aged adults. The food we experienced was wonderful .... especially memorable was the roast at Makars mash bar.

    Eat walk tour
This was my second tour with eat walk tour. I had previously done the St Andrews tour and I really enjoyed this. I booked the Edinburgh one as a birthday treat for my sister. Our tour guide was Tilly, she was very knowledgeable and we had a great day with her. I would recommend this tour as a fun way to explore Edinburgh.

    Great and filling tour
Alan took us to several places where we tried traditional Scottish food and drink. We tried Mash, Haggis (vegetarian and regular) served with sides, a raspberry liquor, Cranachan and more. We were completely full when done and skipped dinner. Alan also told some interesting stories about Edinburgh. The highlight of the tour was the Scotch Malt Whisky Society with it's large selection of whisky.

Our guide Jonathan, a former (still sometime?) journalist was wonderful. His great knowledge of history and typically dry British wit made the at times lengthy walks between stops quite entertaining. Very organized, all of the establishments had a dedicated spot for our group of 8. The food and drinks were all very nice, provided you (if you’re a slightly squeamish American) don’t think too hard about what black pudding or haggis is made of. A lovely day out, you’ll see a great deal of the city along the way.

We had a blast!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening, thanks to our tour guide, Ian. We walked through many areas of Edinburgh from restaurant to restaurant as Ian explained cultural & fun facts along with some of the city’s history.
Each of the 4-5 restaurant stops (which were all very good) included a beverage and/or regional food. I never would’ve eaten haggis or experienced a Scottish egg had I not taken this tour! Book this tour and come hungry because you’ll get plenty of food and probably share some good laughs with your guide and fellow diners!

We would definitely not recommend this tour….directions to meet initially were wrong. We then looked up the street and found the group, the guide was less than professional. The tour took us to a French restaurant for soup with a cider, then a new hotel for a whisky, which we still do not what make it was, then doubled back to a busy restaurant for a starter of pork belly (absolute size of a free sample) accompanied with a drink of cordial….at that point we questioned what the next stop would be on the four stop tour…..only to be told it could be pasta or a dessert, the guide wasn’t sure….we gave up at that point, as the money charged and the promise of the itinerary, no where near matched the evening. A huge disappointment….

Your guide found the situation on the evening challenging and they were flustered when trying to respond to your queries. Additional support has been provided to them. France and Scotland have a long standing friendship and French food culture is an important part of Scottish food culture. The soup served was Cullen Skink which combines French and Scottish food culture. It originates from the town of Cullen in Aberdeenshire. The whisky stop is a roof top bar with panoramic views of Edinburgh's skyline. We've received many positive comments on this view from prior guests. The second dish served was a normal size portion that all diners at that restaurant receive when ordering. The meeting point difference was 1 door difference. You were contacted 5 minutes before the tour started to ensure we located you. The complaint needs to be directed to TripAdvisor/Viator as it's a glitch with their system that they can not update tickets to reflect accurate meeting point information. Viator and ourselves sent the meeting point information. We aim to deliver happiness. When we don't meet expectations, we still aim to deliver as much happiness as we can. I'm personally disappointed that your review doesn't mention the care we provided to you as soon as your concerns were raised.

My wife and I booked this tour on the recommendation of our son. It was a fantastic way to see Edinburgh with some delicious food and drink along the way.

Our tour guide, Julie, was very knowledgable about the history and food of Edinburgh and fascinating to listen to. The restaurants and bars we visited were lovely and the food was of high quality and very tasty. It was a great way to visit areas of the city we would never have experienced on our own. We would certainly recommend the tour to anyone visiting Edinburgh. Thank you Julie for an interesting and enjoyable evening.

We did this food tour for my hen do it May 2022 and it was fantastic! There was a group of 13 of us with mixed ages (including a 4 month old baby) and everyone enjoyed it. Alan was our guide and he was fabulous, he had many stories to tell about Edinburgh and even helped with the buggy up and down the stairs when needed. My mother and her friends especially enjoyed chatting with him over charcuterie and wine! It was really great having headsets so you can walk at your own pace and still hear the guide. The food at all locations was amazing with the haggis neeps and tatties at a private whisky club being my favourite, closely followed by cranachan at Ghillie Dbu. We had a vegetarian and a celiac in our group and both were well catered for. When the gluten free cranachan accidently came with shortbread on top it was quickly replaced with a safe one without any trouble. All of my friends and family really enjoyed it and were talking about it for many days after! Thanks Alan!

We enjoyed meeting other travelers and getting to walk parts of the city that we hadn’t yet explored: the grass market, new town, etc. The food was good. Our guide did appear stressed and a bit disorganized due to a double booking by the company (hence the 4 stars) but overall, I am very glad we went for the sake of socializing and getting to try out some local food. Tour lasted 4 hours or so and there was a good amount of walking. Would recommend!

My partner and I went on the Eat Walk Tour of Edinburgh during September. From the outset, Alan was extremely friendly and easy to contact regarding booking. The tour had a number of Covid-19 Safety features including ensuring each tour was private (with no extra cost), headphones to maintain distancing and hand sanitiser. Our tour guide Julie was fantastic, she was bubbly with lots of fun stories and facts to tell while we walked from venue to venue. The food, wine and whisky was delicious and we visited places that we would never have come across on our own. Our tour overran by about an hour but Julie was extremely accommodating and did not seem to mind one bit. Would highly recommend - it’s a fantastic day out and a must do when in Edinburgh. Our favourite day of our week long trip by far!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review it is greatly appreciated. Pleased you enjoyed your time with Julie. Normally we have up to 8 people on our tours, but as you say due to COVID-19 we are only running tours for people travelling together. Means you get your own private food and drink tour around the Old and New Town of Edinburgh.

Our group of four (two couples) really enjoyed this tour. One of our group members has some difficulties walking for long distances, so after I contacted the tour company with these concerns, one of their employees (Sara) offered to modify the “typical” tour route to accommodate our limitations. The new route was half the distance and on a less hilly terrain. When we arrived at the designated “meeting point” we were happy to learn that our tour guide was Sara! She did a great job of leading our tour group of eight people to various restaurants to sample food and drink and also she pointed out local landmarks and told interesting stories along the way. Very good experience that was totally enhanced by Sara’s ability to adjust the tour route for us and her excellent job as a tour guide! Give that girl a raise!

Had a fantastic evening with our guide Jonathan regaling us with local anecdotes of Edinburgh’s past whilst winding our way through the streets for some fab food and drinks! Wandering through Grassmarket, through alleys (or ‘closes’) we ended up at one of Edinburgh’s finest ‘Makars Gourmet Mash Bar’. Not fancy just really good Scottish food (black pudding, beef shoulder with a glass of Edinburgh rhubarb gin). It was so good we went back the next day for a full meal! We moved on elsewhere for a very special whiskey tasting, continuing to a fab place for charcuterie at ‘Le Di Vin’. Of course dessert came next at another funky little wine cellar venue accompanied by a jazz band playing in the background! What a fun night - places we would never have found ourselves! This is a great way to start a visit to Edinburgh; Jon had a wealth of information and recommendations to ensure your food experience in thoroughly enjoyed!! We would definitely recommend with flying colors!

Got to start with the guide Tilly, she was engaging, had a great energy and was extremely knowledgeable about both the local history, the food wine and whisky. The walk was charming and saw many great points of interests along the way. The food was amazing, well chosen and thoroughly enjoyed. I found myself in Edinburgh alone for a few nights and this was a great way to get out and enjoy good company and food. My first ever experience of a city food tour with Eat Walk Edinburgh setting the standard for each one I know try in the future.
