Wow! I cannot say enough great things about our experience on Railtours Ireland! Our tour guide Brian was the absolute best and told the most amazing stories and history. We learned about the history of Ireland, leprechauns, and fairy trees all while driving through the beautiful Irish countryside! The trains were efficient and the buses were able to get us closer to all the beautiful sights along the coast. This being our first time in Ireland, we really wanted to see everything without having to rent a car. We are so happy we chose the rail tour because we got to see everything and learn so much along the way. We especially loved Blarney castle and the cliffs of Moher even if it rained the whole day! Everything was so well organized and perfectly timed. So glad to have not had to book all the excursions and transportation on our own. Again, tour guide Brian was easily the most fun part! I hope we can take another tour in the future!

The trip was well-organised so we didn't have to worry about anything. The wild nature of the western coast is amazing and visits to sites like the Cobh heritage center added to our understanding of Irish history and culture. Our guide Jonathan is a historian and his humor combined with in-depth knowledge made the whole experience more than worthwhile. Even my 13-year old son never missed a thing Jonathan said.

Such a wonderful trip! We couldn't help but become immersed in the culture. No one can paint a picture quite like Jonathan. His love for the history, stories, and culture makes this such a genuine experiance. He continually went above and beyond to make our trip unforgettable. Thank you Jonathan!

We planned on organizing our own tour of Ireland but ran out of time leading up to the trip. This tour highlighted the main attractions we wanted to see and we've always wanted to take a train through the countryside. A little hesitant we booked it... AND WOW ARE WE HAPPY WE DID.

Jonathon was our tour guide for the full 3 days and we cannot say enough amazing things about him. He knew EVERYTHING there was to know about Ireland and also seemed to know everyone! He gave a detailed historical account of everything and had answers to every question we asked. He was also hilarious. This tour was so well organized as well and we never felt too rushed at any of the spots! He would call into lunch spots or attractions ahead of time so they were always expecting us and we never really waited around ever. Jonathon was very communicative the entire trip and we had a great group that was always back to the bus on time so we got to see even more views! Their drivers were always professional and safe.

Jonathon - thank you from both of us for an unforgettable trip through Ireland. You truly made our trip perfect and always went above and beyond for everyone!

I highly recommend this trip to anyone of any age. We felt like we got to see more than just the typical tourist spots and everything was SO well organized.

I would however recommend booking through Rail Tour Ireland directly because then you get to stay in this GORGEOUS hotel in Killarney both nights instead of a bed and breakfast - as some of the BNB's were quite a ways from city center.

Found this trip that took us to all the sites we wanted to see - truly carefree as they say, without having to worry about researching, planning, driving, the weather, the roads, hiring, coordinating, or anything else! They run a tour which is fun, relaxed and social, yet flawlessly precise and well-organized! You feel like they've done this a million times before - but also like you're the one they're all attending to! The sites we saw were truly spectacular. The guides were all phenomenal, and made all the difference in the world! A very special shout-out to Andy who was witty, personable and extremely knowledgeable, as well as to Ray from Deros's, and Batt!

What a fantastic experience! The trip was seamlessy organized and flawlessly executed. All accommodations, meal stops and points of interest visited were outstanding! I'd give Railtours Ireland six stars if I could. A special shout out to our guide Peter MacDonnell who did an absolutely incredible job leading us on such a memorable experience! He did a wonderful job ensuring everything went well and did a brilliant job while touring with a perfect mix of history, local lore, information about the sites and points of interest, humor, poetry, music and ... silence. It is obvious he loves his job and it translates clearly. Search no further, book now, you won't regret it!!

Apr 2018 • Family
My family went used Railtours Ireland for our Family Vacation in April and it exceeded all expectations. The route of the trip hit all of the major attractions that we wanted to see and we were never rushed in exploring them. To have a trip so perfectly timed out is really rare.

On top of the perfect itinerary that they provide the guests with, the service was also top notch. Our Tour Guide was BRIAN and he was BRILLIANT! I am a River Guide in Maine in the United States and know first hand how hard it is to entertain the same group of people for days at a time. He was always so jovial, funny, and provided us with more historical knowledge than we had expected. Hands down that was one of the best examples of great guest service that I have ever seen in my life. Thank you Brian for all of the laughs and awesome memories!

Most of my review is focusing on the tour itself and not the sites necessarily. First, our tour guide and coach drivers were top notch! Tour guide was Jonathan and I can’t imagine there is a better tour guide out there. He was incredibly knowledgeable and took care of us every step of the way. He put our comfort and interests at the top of his priority list and that was greatly appreciated.

I am only giving 4 stars though because I feel “Rail tours” is a bit of a misnomer. We spent the vast majority of our time on a coach bus, which is about as uncomfortable as it gets. Granted the tour buses were great quality, I just don’t find bus rides comfortable, especially with a full bus. Now, I get that most of the sites we saw are not directly accessible by train, but going between cities via train would have been preferable.

Additionally, there was at least one morning that was super early and ended super late. And the timing of meals was few and far between.

I do think it would be beneficial if there was a more detailed itinerary made available before travel so we could sufficiently plan ahead. The tour guide does a great job summarizing the plan the day before, but I would have loved something in writing before the trip with details.

Overall a great adventure and wonderful tour experience. We will do again but likely stick to day tours.

If you get the chance, visit the Cliffs of Moher. They are dramatic, impressive, and nothing that you've ever seen in the states. Just be sure to make it to your tour on time and that you use the restroom prior to the trip.

The tour was split between trains and buses allowing us to see the countryside and stop at interesting spots along the way. Our tour guide, Norman, was informative and entertaining while keeping us on track to see so many different sites over the three days of the tour. Blarney Castle and gardens, the ring of Kerry and Cliffs of Moher were breathtaking.
