Small-Group Day Trip to the Boyne Valley from Dublin: Newgrange and Hill of Tara
From US$45.18
Overview
Delve deep into ancient Irish history during this 9-hour tour to Newgrange monument (or Knowth monument dependent on availability) and the Hill of Tara from Dublin. With your small group, limited to 14 people or fewer, visit Norman Castles, sacred burial mounds, royal coronation sites from the Iron age and Megalithic temples. Learn about the ancient history infused in some of the Boyne Valley's landmarks such as the Hill of Tara, Trim Castle and Newgrange. Hear tales of the heroes, goddesses and gods of Irish mythology and learn about the world of Celtic spirituality, including Christianity, Druidism and Paganism. Pickup and drop-off in central Dublin.
What to Expect
Start your day tour in the Boyne Valley by meeting your guide at the Gresham Hotel on O'Donnell Street in central Dublin. With your small group of 16 people or fewer, board your comfortable tour vehicle and set off into the countryside. The journey to Newgrange will take about 75 minutes; sit back and enjoy the countryside scenery.

Arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage Site and have a look around the Interpretive Centre. Take a tour of the Temple and Mound (entrance at own expense) and learn about the ancient history behind the impressive site. (Depending on availability, Newgrange may be substituted with a visit to Knowth monument).

Depart at 11:30am for the trip to Trim Castle, filming site for scenes from the movie 'Braveheart'. Follow your guide on a tour of the castle, considered the finest example of a Norman castle in Ireland. Stop for lunch at the Trim Castle Hotel (own expense).

Depart for the Hill of Tara around mid-afternoon. Upon arrival, embark on a 2-hour guided tour that includes stops at the Fairy Tree, the Well of the White Calf, the Mound of the Hostages, the Fort of Kings and the Stone of Destiny.

Travel back to Dublin, arriving at around 6pm.
