Greatly exceeded our expectations for scenery, hiking beauty along seaside cliffs, beaches, historical sites, variety and quality of accommodations, restaurant meals & picnics, and overall fun. Tim was our guide who provided first class adventure and story telling, competently and safely. Highly recommend.

Two things to say about Ireland: The country is beautiful. Your annual calendar photos do not do it justice. Secondly the people of Ireland are amazingly friendly and gracious. The very best way to see Ireland and meet her people is with a Vagabond tour. We took the 12 day adventure tour. This tour is for the active folks who enjoy hiking, cycling, horseback riding or kayaking. You see Ireland through a little different active perspective, but still see the major highlights of the country. We were a small group of 10 family and close friends celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. Our guide and driver was Andrew. I really cannot say enough about Andrew. Being a lifelong Irishman, he is passionate about the history and culture of his country. But above all that, he is a consummate professional and took great care of his 10 guests. “Great stop Andrew!” Andrew has a sneaky but wild sense of humor. The van was filled with laughter every mile of the journey. Andrew started the tour as our guide and driver. He ended it as a friend and part of the family. This was my second Vagabond tour and the third for my daughter. When a guest returns more than once, little more need be said about the quality of the experience and service of the provider in a review. Vagabond is an exceptionally great way to see and experience Ireland.

Third time is definitely a charm! I enjoyed my first Vagabond trip with my dad so much, I had to bring my husband. Enjoyed the trip with my husband so much, I had to bring the whole family! That’s right, this was my 3rd trip with Vagabond, and I’d do it again. At this point, I’m probably comfortable enough in Ireland that I could grab a guidebook, rent a car, and go on my own. But a Vagabond tour guide gives you what the guidebooks can’t - a personalized journey filled with stories, jokes, and anecdotes about each region of Ireland you visit. Our guide was Andrew. Not only could he give The Most Interesting Man In The World a run for his money, he did an excellent job taking care of my family over the 12 days. This was a very active 12 days - our step count on the FitBit was off the charts! Busy, active days outside followed by delicious food, drinks, and cozy accommodations. And everything is arranged for you - no worries whatsoever. Can’t wait for the next time.

Thank you so much for your 5 star review, we appreciate you taking the time. We were delighted to welcome you back, you are a qualified Vagabond expert now! We are over the moon that you chose to come back the third time, this means we are doing something right. Andrew is a great guide and an important part of the Vagabond team so we love to hear that you enjoyed your time with him. Let us know when you are coming back, we could use an extra VagaGuide! Looking forward to seeing you, thank you again for your great review.

This tour is an excellent introduction to Ireland, circumnavigating the island. Our group was wonderfully cohesive and fun, and our tour guide, Andrew Duggan, was outstanding. He combined a love of Ireland with knowledge and enthusiasm that he shared to prepare us for, and immerse us in, each experience. We loved the Giant's Causeway, the Black Cab Tour in Belfast, the Cliffs of Mohrer, Mount Falcon Estate, the Wild Atlantic Lodge, Dingle Sheep Farm, Bantry, Cork and the Rock of Cashel. The numerous catch o' the day specials were outstanding (hake!) and cocktails of Bushmills or Jamesons and ginger ale were enjoyed each night. Travelers should wear layers, a waterproof outerlayer and waterproof shoes, pack lightly, and pace themselves to avoid getting too tired. To the tour company, I would recommend eliminating the Titanic Experience, the distilleries and breweries, and the Blarney Stone because they are all time stealers. I recommend finding somewhere other than the Clifden Station House to stay and spending 2 nights at Mount Falcon to enjoy the amenities the resort has to offer on the off day. Earlier arrivals, perhaps by 3:00, would provide an opportunity to savor what each town/place has to offer rather than 6:00 p.m. arrivals when shops, attractions, and museums are already closed and only restaurants and pubs remain open. I would recommend this tour, and this specific company, to anyone who wants to thoroughy enjoy a trip to Ireland. From the initial contact with the office staff to the considerate and competent tour guides, Vagabond/Driftwood does not disappoint!

A note about our guide Mark Dougherty. Mark is a true adventurer (the first Irishman to cycle round the world) driver, navigator, comedian, lecturer, and oracle (ask me any'ting, If Oi don't the answer, Oi'll make somet'ing up". True to form, he has most answers and researches (when not driving) to get answers. He is an expert on Irish literature and music, and quotes poems, sings songs, and delivers lectures while driving us expertly through the narrow country lanes. He went out of his way to get our group to the place of my ancestors, Schull, and Skibbereen. I even overheard him trying to get info. about my family in a pub in Schull! Talk about full service! The man is awesome!

I highly recommend the Vagabond 12 day Giant Irish Adventure Tour. WHY?

1. the spectacular natural beauty of Ireland, especially the north and west coast
2. the varied daily activity and the pace of each day and the options we had
3. the interesting and different accommodations (it was obvious there was a good relationship with the hotels/inns and many of the pubs we stopped at for lunch)
4. THE GUIDE - Damian was so knowledgeable and well versed in Irish history and stories, archeology, geography, etc. He took us to places we never would have found on our own. He was professional, responsible, a great storyteller, witty, sensitive, and he went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure each person had a great experience. He gave context to all the places we saw. It was an education and a very enriching experience.
5. We were fortunate to have a very cohesive group of 12 people.

Vagabond is responsive/easy to reach, both prior to booking & pre-trip.  They have a user-friendly website & an active Facebook community.  Vagabond encourages the posting of pictures and company representatives respond to questions & participate in inter-active dialogues with past clients, those currently on tour & future travelers; very helpful for pre-booking & travel questions.    The 12-day Adventure Tour, exceeded expectations! A well-planned itinerary allowed for optional activities & flexibility, at the guide’s discretion, taking into account weather conditions & group interests. The tour vehicle was spacious, comfortable, clean & well maintained. Van times are kept at a minimum and provided the perfect opportunity for informative and entertaining narratives on Irish history and culture. Accommodations were at quaint, locally owned hotels. Appropriate attention is paid to historical sites, museums, scenic landscape, Irish culture/heritage, “off the beaten track adventures” & physical activities like biking, hiking, trekking, horseback riding & boat rides. The physical activities were, at times, a bit out of our comfort zone, yet reasonably challenging, and alternatives, other than just sitting in the van, were always available. There were no obligatory “tourist trap” shopping stops & we had plenty of opportunity to intact with locals. A prepaid, hearty breakfast was much appreciated. We enjoyed the mix of “free choice”, (with guide recommendations) & “off the menu” group lunch & dinner options. Food at both the recommended and pre-selected restaurants was delicious and reasonably priced, with more than adequate portions. Meals featured traditional local dishes, with an emphasis on a wide variety of fresh fish, & “farm to table” local, produce &grass fed meat. Our tour guide, Denise, an avid outdoor enthusiast, was passionate, free spirited, well versed in all aspects of Ireland, friendly, flexible, responsive to questions, knowledgeable in many topics, plus had an admirable command of the vehicle! Her keen sense of adventure was infectious! We highly recommend Vagabond, without reservation. Friends & relatives who have done self -guided tours & large group, “city based” tours of Ireland, felt their experiences fell short, compared to ours.

Denise is full of energy and such a great asset to our team. Thank you for any future recommendations to friends and family, we love showing like minded people our Ireland. Rob Rankin, Owner.

Recently my husband and I had the privilege of taking the 12 Day Giant Irish Adventure Tour of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

We were delighted by the depth and breadth of this tour and the many opportunities that it offered to enjoy both urban and rural landscapes.

Our host and driver Seán was well-informed and caring of the needs of our group. He approached his hosting responsibilities with sensitivity, creativity and good humour.

Sean was able to modify the plan for the day's activities if weather or fatigue came into play.
Options for hikes were offered so that individual members could adjust their level of participation.

We appreciated the stories he told relating to Irish myths and folklore as well as the historical background offered regarding important events in Irish history, ancient and modern.

Most of the accommodation provided was of a high standard and restaurant recommendations very satisfactory.

I would recommend this tour to anyone wishing to have a thorough visit of the island, especially to those who are first-time visitors to Ireland, as was our case.

I took their 12 day small group tour in June 2018 and the experience exceeded my (high) expectations. Their website was informative and easy to use. The start of the trip was well organized and we were off on our adventure shortly after the arranged meeting time. The 13 passenger MB vehicle and luggage trailer were well maintained and served their purposes for the duration of the trip with no issues. The itinerary was well thought out, the activities (hiking, walking, biking, and more) seemed to meet the expectations of all 13 on our trip. The accommodations selected were comfortable and places I would consider again. Carmel, our guide was outstanding. Each day at the outset she explained the day’s agenda, reviewed the map and explained where we would we would be headed, and what we would do. Her knowledge of the sites we visited, the history and culture of Ireland and its people, her organization and gentle way of keeping us on track while allowing us the opportunity to explore all we wanted was truly admirable. She engaged each person on the trip and ensured that everyone bonded and felt comfortable as part of the tour. In my opinion, this is the only way to travel the small roads of Ireland and enjoy all its beauty (and if you can get Carmel as your guide, even better).

Hello Kevin K - thank you for reviewing your 12 Day Giant Irish Vagabond Adventure Tour of Ireland. Carmel is very cool indeed and a great guide, thank you. We love to spend time outdoors in nature and we think our tours really allow you to do this. Going off the beaten track down the small roads of Ireland really allows you to see authentic Ireland. Catch you soon. Kind regards, Rob Rankin, Owner.
