About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- wwwmikthewhocom0 contributionsThe true beauty of Windmill Studio over the years is that it connects music with people, artistic expression with fans.Took my music loving Granson along for a tour down memory lane and Windmill Studio has created an atmosphere and facilities to inspire both local and international musicians in recording their craft over the past 40 years and more. Ambition and vision played a large part of the success story, to grow and know what one is growing towards is a source of strength and confidence. Great to see the technology that evolved along the way from my own personal preference in my collection of the fluid, warmth overtones from analog desks to the computerised digital recording which offers versatility, convenience and as the technology progressed and improved as self evident in my own personal collection that has remastered editions of the early digital CD's restore the chopped top and bottom the current systems are flawless these days. There is but one secret to success and that is never give up and Windmill built a reputation on providing a studio service and facilities that attracted many visiting artists to capture some studio work while on the road touring. Maeve's tour narrating events that occured as the various artists passed through Windmill and Dublin is very interesting and entertaining. Musicians determine and solve the commercial nature of their future by taking hold of every opportunity and Windmill Studio delivered those opportunities when requested and required. Positively the best experience. Well done.Written 29 October 2024

The staff were all friendly and professional and Maeve our guide was knowledgeable and very personable. - Nomisreltub0 contributionsGreat! This was a thoroughly enjoyable tour, the staff were very friendly. Maeve was very knowledgeable, good fun and clearly loved being part of it all. It was great that two of our party could have a go on a digital mixing desk, we could sit by the iconic analogue and the presentation at the end was intriguing. To top it off, the tip from Louis of a visit to The Cobblestones in the evening for top quality live music was spot on. Thank you.Written 19 March 2024

- Mrmjfox0 contributionsFantastic and alternative place to visitHad a great time. I was looking for an alternative thing to do while my family were here visiting from London. Met my expectations and much more. Took down a music memory land and learned a heap about sound production. Maeve, our tour guide, was both interested in ensuring we had a great experience and funny to boot. Loved the way it was an interactive experience from beginning to end. Both nostalgic and contemporary in its history current impact for musicians and the industry.Written 3 December 2023
- Martin W0 contributionsFor music lovers and sound engineering enthusiastsThis tour was just exactly balanced, providing facts about the history of the studio and experiencing sound while mixing and listening to different samples. Maria was a charming guide and I would recommend this tour anytime for anyone who loves music or is a musician by themselves.Written 24 November 2023

We chose our time well and ended up being the only ones on this particular tour. Our guide Andrew Lee was lovely, informative, friendly and good-humoured, without being corny. The experience begins with a good video about how Windmill Lane came about, then we proceeded through the building, with Andrew pointing out the architectural, historical, technical and gossipy features. My partner loved the technical bits, but I loved looking at the spot, at the bottom of the stairwell, where The Rolling Stones recorded part of Voodoo Lounge and such things.. The art/photos/awards on the walls are unbelievable and I was blown away by the final video. I was sorry that we did not hear more music. Is that because of a rights issue? Seemed unfortunate to mention brilliant tracks from famous albums and not hear much of them. You are not allowed to take photos on the tour but we were told there would be a chance at the end. We forgot to ask and Andrew didn't mention it, so, the only photo we have is my love, outside the door. They should fix that. I also bought a cool t-shirt for him and found it was a bit small-fitting, so get it is a size bigger unless you want tight. We left very happy. My man, who has loved U2 since 1980, was fairly thrilled from beginning to end and even later into the evening.

After a little uncertainty about how to access the locked door (a simple knock will do!), we spent a wonderful hour enjoying the visitor experience. Careful attention was paid to sanitisation, mask wearing, temperature check and social distancing so we felt very safe and minded. Our guide, Andrew, was super - welcoming, enthusiastic, interested in us and in what he was doing. He encouraged and answered all questions and we enjoyed interesting chats with our fellow tourer. An amazing place with an amazing history. There is a nice mix of video and special affects, interspersed with the actual tour of the building. A mandatory visit for anyone even remotely interested in music! We would love to return sometime again.

Amazing tour. We were lucky to have Niall show us around, we were even allowed to have a go at mixing a track ourselves whilst a very patient and extremely knowledgeable Niall answered our numerous questions. We learnt so much in just an hour. I’ve already found myself listening to music in a completely different way. I can’t put into words just how highly I recommend doing this tour, the studio is on our doorstep and it’s taken years to get round to visiting, safe to say we’ll be sending friends and neighbours along to experience it. Thanks to all at the studio for providing such brilliant entertainment.

Music and the production of music take center stage at this informative and educational studio tour. The insights into the recording industry for this music lover alone was worth the price of admission, but we got so much more! Our guide gladly took pictures of us at the mixing board as a memento of our visit. This is one of the best places to visit when in Dublin!

Besides the atmosphere of the building, the technology, the sounds, the main thing you will take away are the guide's stories joining together the photos, awards and gold disks etc all over the place. The echoes of a thousand famous people are here, All a very genuine and personable 90 min. expeience for the casual tourist and techie alike. Im spreading the word anyway ! (I would come back again if there was a specific techie tour for those interested in the actual facilities, desks, speakers, processors and such! could be fun)

This is an amazing tour for music enthusiasts but also to understand and experience the art of creation and production of albums. The studio has had some of the most famous artists record here and it's amazing to see the place where it all happened. Highly recommended

One of my favorite experiences from traveling to date! I highly recommend this tour to any music lover, even if you are not familiar with all the artists that have recorded here. Awesome history on building, artists, rise to fame, as well as details on the recording process, studios, etc. I scheduled the tour expecting to be in a group, but I was the only one signed up for my time slot and got a super personal solo tour! I even got to play one of the recording studios’ pianos that David Bowie played once. 😁

Organised the tour for my husband's birthday and it was everything I was hoping for and even more. My kids came along and really enjoyed themselves too (age 17, 14 and 9). You get to visit Studio one and three, have some history, learn about famous musician's anecdote. Maria and Ross were our guides and they were full of knowledge and energy to show us this amazing place. Maria even played happy birthday and a very special Piano in Studio one!
amazing visit and thank you for making it special

Absolutely loved it.. Great overview of the recording process and rich musical history of Windmill Lane Recording Studios. The tour was a little over an hour the guide was friendly and knowledgeable through out.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves music and wants to learn a little bit about music production too. It was really safe too from a Covid perspective as everyone was required to wear masks and the guides regularly reminded visitors to sanitise hands at stations dotted around the studio.
