- 19lellaanto00Amazing tour around ManchesterJoe is an amazing guide. He is very passionate about his job and his city. He told me a lot of anedots about Manchester and it was a pleasure walking with him around this beautiful city. He played with a small radio some songs which tell the history of Manchester and explained to me the meaning of the songs and to which period or area they were referring to. I will advice you to join a tour with Joe! This is a really great and pleasant way to discover and visit the city of Manchester. Antonella from Italy

In addition to loads of interesting music and football trivia we got a good introduction to the general history, and present day, of Manchester too. And it was really nice that Joe took us inside to many of the places he showed us. I would have been too shy to enter otherwise :)

We did this tour with Joe on a bright and sunny Saturday last weekend. He is a joy to listen to, both in what he says and what he plays! (no spoilers)
There were about 10 of us on the tour and it lasted approx two and a half hours. Joe takes you around many different areas of the city and pointed out plenty of things to keep us all interested. He clearly knows his city and has a passion for music so for anyone who is wanting to find out about Manchester's history, music scene, football and street art, I would not hesitate to recommend the tour. I also thought it was very good value for money. Well done Joe!

If you are looking to learn about the music and culture scene in Manchester, with a nice heaping of football trivia and characters woven into the story, this is the tour for you. Joe clearly loves his city and he is generous with his anecdotes which leaves you feeling as if you are somehow connected to the people and places he's talking about. My personal highlights of the tour were the incredible wall murals - some of which have survived many years, and others are temporary and ever changing, depending on season/event. All your senses are involved and stimulated on this tour..... not to spoil the surprise, but you may even get to taste a famous Manchester flavour! I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants an energetic and personal introduction to this bustling and friendly city.

The Rock & Goal Tour was one of the quirkiest tours we did during our two week trip through England. Joe is super knowledgeable about Manchester's music scene and his enthusiasm is contagious. The tour is a really fun way to experience a city famous as a breading ground for amazing bands & music innovation. At the end of the tour we asked Joe if he could recommend a bike rental in the city. Joe went out of his way to fetch and rent us two of his own bicycles, which was a great way to explore the city. Hands down one of the most generous & kind hosts I've ever met. If you have an opportunity to take Joe's tour, do it!

Our Choice of a Rock and Goal tour with Joe as our guide was a 100 % correct one. As if by magic we were lured by the sound of an acomplished Saxophonist, who turned out to also be a one of a kind deeply knowledgable (genuine mancunian! ) tour guide . It all culminated in a lot of unforgettable days out for us. So much so we had to re book! All week! He knows too much to cram in to a day!
His enthusiasm was infectiously constistent, rain or shine the tours rolled along unaffected. Punctual, cheerful and patient with our very large 15 strong multilingual group. He knew the most accomodating routes for our wheelchairs and even had some sausage rolls for the hearing and guide dogs.
In booking this man, there is a Guarantee he will bestow his deep insight into all things Mancunian and Musical.
Local as they come. Now christened The Legendary Lord of Longsight market and beyond. It is obvious that Joe is ingrained in the fabric of Mancunium, he spoke from his life experience here and let us into very rarley heard facts and little known tales of the town once labeled cottonopolis. This was not an average tour.
We found out later that Joe is a massive
Talent on the Mancunian Irish music scene too. Which was coincedental, as our Superfluity was visiting from Tobercurry. Joe was very cultured and Hillarious. A Marvelous
Multi instrumentalist, he plays a Grand descant recorder too if the time calls for him to do so.
Highly recommended tour

We met Joe in the Mercure hotel in the centre of Manchester.I have lived in Manchester all my 61 years and my Irish wife for nearly 40 years but both of our Eyes were opened by Joe and his depth of knowledge and involvement with the Manchester music scene which featured highly in his tour.
We made our way through to the Northern quarter where lots of street art and murals were pointed out and their stories explained.
Joe is a phenomenon, so much so that strangers stopped to photo him and shouted compliments to him.
I recommend it as a real eye opener of a tour with an extraordinary insight to the cultural history of modern Manchester.

Joe likes history and his love for music (and its Manchester musicians/bands) is clear and it brings the old and the new Manchester together, making history more palpable and relateable. He was well prepared and could discourse about important facts from the 1800's (and some funny anecdotes) to the more current subjects like the beginning of the Beckham family, which made it amusing.
I definitely recommend the tour for those who are big fans of music (rock bands and all), he is a pro in the subject.

Tour guide Joe was great, has loads of knowledge and has a few connections to some of the pop culture tidbits he told the group about.
I think the tour is more interesting if you already have an interest and some knowledge of Manchester’s pop culture though.
I love the bands and the Factory Records era so liked all that stuff, you could tell others in the group weren’t quite as connected with it however.
Unfortunately it was a small group, six of us, and three had dropped out by the time we got to the vibrant Stevenson Sq, Joe took us into some lovely looking bars I’d never have known about, or found, otherwise, already recommended them to friends who are visiting the city next month.
I was wondering if the tour started at China Town and worked its way through the city, that might be better?
A nice touch was Joe playing some music when talking about different buildings, former gig venues or radio stations etc, the likes of 808 State, Happy Mondays and A Guy Called Gerald.
Maybe could play 5 seconds or so, then turn it down and explain the relevance? I noticed people were just sort of staring blankly at him for 15-20 seconds, then he’d explain it a bit.
In summary - Really insightful tour and covers a lot of Manchester history, especially music, and if you’re already into it you’ll really enjoy it, imo.

I very much enjoyed the tour as Joe is an absolute wealth of historical knowledge and so much is given freely on this abundant and joyful walk through some of Manchesters inner city landscape.
I took my Grandaughter in a buggy with us and it rained alot neither made it any the less pleasurable.
I often see Joe out and about in the community, he even peeled a whole crate of sprouts this week to help feed some homeless people xmas dinner.

What a fabulous tour we had! We are very familiar with Manchester and have visited often over the years, but I thought we could learn more about our favourite Uk city from a walking tour, and I was right! Joe, our guide, was excellent, very knowledgeable and very funny. He messaged the day before asking what our interests were - music and the buildings, not so much the football for me, and that’s what we got. A fantastic informative 2 1/2 hours with a bit of pipe playing thrown in for good measure! Joe certainly made the tour for us, indeed, as we were having lunch the waiter asked how our Sunday had been so far, and took the name of the tour down as he is very interested in the Manchester music scene/history also. Highly recommend, and thank you Joe !
