- Teneriffe_Grizzlers0 contributionsThe best tour to get a taste of Bordeaux wines and see historic St Emilion. The half day trip to St Emilion with wine tasting was an excellent experience. Our guide and host was Jerome. He was not only a skilled driver but possesses a vast knowledge of Bordeaux chateaus and wines. He is also a personable and charming guide. Our small group of 2 Australians and 3 Spanish had a top day. I would thoroughly recommend this tour.Written 15 March 2025

Jerome was very knowledgeable about the history, culture and wines of the region. He took us to two very distinct but excellent wineries. We sampled a large number of both classic and unique Alsace wines. The experience felt relaxed and unhurried, with Jerome and the winemakers taking the time to explain each wine, the grape varieties, and the production process. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore the wines of Alsace.Written 26 February 2025

- propertyg20150 contributionsDon't purchaseNever take this tour. The male instructor was late and rude for my tour on 11/26. I was also told that they could not bring me back to catch my Train and they did not have solutions. Importantly there was a racist vibe from the instructor see if help some one else with almost same issue. And they are thieves when asking for my money back for bad service. - sandrasI8199OI0 contributionsBest Wine Experience I've Had!From the vine-covered rolling hills to the meticulous vineyard rows, our half-day trip to Saint-Émilion from Bordeaux was nothing short of spectacular. A key highlight of this tour was our guide, Mario, whose expertise as a sommelier deeply enriched our experience. As an Italian native, Mario not only brought a passionate flair to his guidance but also shared intricate details about the winemaking process that were both enlightening and engaging. The tour began with a scenic drive from Bordeaux to Saint-Émilion, during which Mario entertained us with fascinating stories and facts about the region's history and viticulture. Upon arrival, we visited a charming, family-run winery where we were walked through the vineyards and cellars. Mario's knowledge was invaluable, as he explained the unique qualities of the terroir and how they translate into the flavor and structure of the wine. The wine tasting session itself was a delightful experience. With Mario's sommelier insights, we learned to identify subtle notes and aromas in the wines, which enhanced our appreciation significantly. The selection included superb examples of what makes Saint-Émilion such a revered wine-producing area. Overall, this tour is a must-do for anyone visiting Bordeaux. The combination of stunning landscapes, insightful commentary, and exquisite wines makes for an unforgettable experience. Mario’s professional yet personable approach as a guide will undoubtedly enhance your visit, making this tour highly recommendable for both wine aficionados and novices alike.Written 30 October 2024

- judith c0 contributionsTour not a TastingOur guide / driver Carol was knowledgeable and friendly. Enjoyed learning about the differences in left bank / right bank vineyards and the extensive appellation structure. St Emilion is adorable and so historic. Particularly enjoyed learning about the monolithic cathedral. The tasting itself was disappointing compared to tasting tours I have done in Porto and Tuscany. We had three merlots, three different years and one Rose. We were not allowed to enjoy a glass of our favorite after the tasting, despite the bottles still being half full. WTH. Seemed incredibly cheap of the ChateauWritten 15 October 2024

- josemedinamd0 contributionsHistory and wine to rememberOn top of a hill, Saint Emilion is a beautiful village, a gift to my eyes: magnificent ancient churches, small cobblestone streets, old towers and walls. One could admire a medieval town that attracted pilgrims for hundreds of years, The wine making and dégustation were excellent. I tasted several wonderful red and rosé wines. Our guide was personable and knew well the history and wine business in the area.Written 11 October 2024

Fantastic tour made all the better by having Helen as our guide. She was able to give us a huge amount of passion and detail about the region, the vinyards and the wines, whilst also enjoying our jokes and having a great sense of humour. She has great people skills and makes you feel at ease and creates a very enjoyable day. The tour starts with a pickup at the tourist office, very easy to get to on the tram, get off at Quinconces and it's literally opposite.
You get allocated to a bus and your guide drives the bus so easily seats 7 people plus driver. We drove to a vinyard in Fronsac - De La Riviere which has an amazing chateau and more so limstone caves that are used for cellaring, absolutely amazing and worth the trip alone. We then drove into St Emillion and had a walking tour where Helen explained the history of this small village. We started in the Cathedral at the top of the hill and then down to the lower part of the village. It is not far to walk but very steep to go down but more so back up again, I'd advise against it if you have dodgy knees or are very unfit, there are cafes etc at the top so you can chill and not miss much.
We had lunch in the lower part which was nice brasserie style food and then back up the hill to the bus and we drove to our 2nd vinyard. This was a smaller family run GrandCru vinyard and we were lucky to meet the owner who makes the wine. This has been in their family for 400years and a great contrast the bigger vinyards you can see. Finally we went for just a tasting at a 3rd vinyard where we drank wine paired with chocolate, very interesting and by that time we were glad we didn't do another tour of the vinyard! Then back in the bus and back to Bordeaux where Helen continued to provide a brilliant service and dropped us off at our hotel!

Unfortunately, we had a rainy day, but otherwise my wife and I had a great day. The driver was awesome, very knowledgeable about the region and wine, entertaining, and also excellent English. The 3 wineries were a pleasure to visit and the wines excellent, although the student host at the first one had poor English. The host at the second one, Vignobles Capdemourlin, had excellent communication skills and expertise in the wine business so we learned a lot. Our tour driver impressed us very much with her wine knowledge at the third winery, Chateau Bellevue. Finally, our time in St. Emilion village was made especially enjoyable with lunch at the Fromagerie La Moineaudiere, with its cave-like small dining area in the back, and particularly by its engaging and funny owner, a truly memorable time and experience.

Hello, thank you for your review and for sharing such detailed feedback. We're so glad to hear that you and your wife enjoyed the tour despite the rain. It’s wonderful to know that our driver was able to make your experience enjoyable with her extensive knowledge and excellent command of English. We have taken note of your comment about the first winery host's English skills and will look into it carefully. We're happy to hear you had a memorable time in St. Emilion village and particularly enjoyed your lunch at Fromagerie La Moineaudiere. We hope to have the pleasure of touring with you again soon!

We did a full day tour, this was from 9:30-17:30. All information about where you will be picked up will be provided on time. The transport was super neatly arranged in a van with air-conditioning. We visited 3 different chateaux in total and in between we visited the city of Saint-Emilion where you get two hours to see the city and have lunch yourself. At the chateaus we tasted a total of 9 different red wines. We had Guide Clare, a super nice woman who could tell with great enthusiasm about everything about the wines and the Bordeaux region. Definitely worth booking this activity if you are going on holiday in this region!

I would give these 0 stars if I could. The tour guide was incredibly rude and patronizing especially when purchasing wine, on a wine tour. Little to no info about the wine or the grounds where explained. The wineries only had one or two wines to taste and then they gave you enough for two sips at most. The first place is the only place that included a tour and a tasting at the vineyard. The second was going to like a wine store to taste and the third included no details no tours and really nothing. Nowhere gave you water or bread. The third place was sixteen people when eight was guaranteed and they had no chairs and no details just sips of subpar wine. I have done over 20 wine tours and this was by far the worst. I would highly recommend not booking.

Dear Alison,
We apologize for your negative experience on the wine tour and appreciate your feedback.
However, after investigating your specific tour, we have found that the chateau did provide water to the clients during wine tastings.
While we understand your expectation for bread, but it is important to note that it was not mentioned in our product page as an inclusion, so we don't really understand your negative comment about that point...
Regarding the wine tastings, our records indicate that each chateau on the tour actually provided a minimum of two glass of wine for tasting even some chateau provide three glass of wine, rather than the one sip mentioned in your review.
As for the tour guide, it is disheartening to hear that you found them rude and patronizing.
We only have received overwhelmingly positive reviews about their professionalism and knowledge in the past. He actually had very good review from a client who did the tour you were on.
We understand that experiences can vary and we regret to read this negative interaction you may have had.

The guides were late - all 3 young guys who divided up about 25 tourgoers waiting outside the tourism office. Our guide Hugo said he was from Bordeaux, spoke with a British accent and was opinionated (and erroneous) on any topic you could name. He never stopped blabbing — or nervously laughing. After two mediocre wine stops, we got to St. Emilion just in time for all the good restaurants to be closed at 2 pm. As a result ate an overpriced salad in the square, then shopped/walked around for like 15 minutes. Hashtag: Not worth it!

However, we understand that personal preferences may vary.

We booked this trip a couple of days before going, once we saw the weather forecast and realized it would be our nicest day while visiting Bordeaux. We'd never before booked an excursion on Trip Advisor, so we did so just hoping it would pan out. It was truly superb! We arrived, and first toured the beautiful historic church, and took in the view from a high wall overlooking the town. We had two wine tastings in the morning, one in a lovey shop in the village of St.-Émilion. After the second tasting, at our first winery, we had a lunch provided by the tour, in the very pleasant yard of that winery. Our guide next drove us to the Médoc region to the west, where we visited, and tasted at, two other wineries. All the tours, and the wines, were very good, with tours of the facilities and explanations. It was a long day - 8:30am departure and return to Bordeaux at 6pm - with never a wasted, nor hurried, moment. I would very much recommend this tour. A shoutout to our traveling companions from Australia and the U.S./Africa, it was so enjoyable spending the day with you all.

Our tour guide was Karim. Really had an excellent time. Karin gave a great description of wine making and the wineries. (As you may know guides in France have to be certified. Having the guide provide in depth context is very valuable and hard to replace if you are touring on your own.) We went to two chateaus situated over lime stone quarries within which they age their wine. Going through the underground storage areas was quite nice.
St. Emilion is nice, picturesque, and serves as a nice lunch spot. Check the hours of the monolithic church in advance (you can only enter with a free tour.) You may be able to get a tour of the church which we missed.
Highlights are the chateaus and the wine tasting though. The third chateau we went to was a smaller place. The advantage of going there was the wine tasting was conducted by the owner himself. The individual could literally answer any question you have about wine. You are basically talking to the chef who crafted the wine you are drinking. Really awesome experience.
Merci beaucoup Karim! Une journée parfaite en St. Emilion.

This tour was fantastic as it comprised a small group of 7 and our guide Karim made it very special for us. He was experienced and knowledgeable and kept us entertained the entire day making us laugh with quizzes etc. I enjoyed the mix of 3 wineries but also getting the two hours of free time in Saint Emilion too so we could walk around and soak up the atmosphere. Karim also recommended places to eat too which could everyone. Thanks to Karim and the the rest of our group who made our day so memorable.

Our guide Stan was very friendly, informative and welcoming. The tour was relaxed and gave us the chance to speak to authentic wine producers from the region about their craft.
There was also free time in St Emilion to explore the village and get a bite to eat (with recommendations from our guide), before sharing information about the UNESCO world heritage site.
Although it may be cheaper to DIY a trip from Bordeaux to St Emilion, I’d recommend paying that bit extra for this. It takes the hassle out of travelling and you come away knowing far more about the region and the production of wine. Tres bien!

My daughter and I had a wonderful trip at the Saint Emilion Wineries with our tour guide, Stan. We learned a lot about the hard work and process required to make world class wines. Our host, Agnes, at the Chateau Coutet was a superb teacher of wine making and wine tasting. The village of Saint Emilion is an historically fascinating and definitely worth visiting. We had a fun day sampling different wines from 3 wineries and touring the village. This was our second wine tour with Ophorus and we recommend them to anyone who wants a memorable wine tasting experience.

Hi, if the cruise terminal is the one in town, then yes. But you will have to walk to the city centre, which is about 20 minutes from where the ships berth. That is also an very enjoyable walk. Or you can take a taxi or Uber.
