Tastings of different grades of Burgundy wine
For this tour, we visited one cellar door and had six tastings of the different grades of wine made in this region, as well as touring the Cote de Nuit region and stopping to view several vineyards including the special Clos vineyards. The cellar door winery was amazing, set in a very old historic building with cellars in underground caves that had very eclectic entertaining areas. This in itself was worth the visit.

      Outstanding Wine Tour
What an incredible tour! We did a full day private tour with Antonin, and it exceeded our expectations. Some in our group know quite a bit about wine, but Antonin’s knowledge and passion for wine blew us away. He gave us an appreciation for the land by walking through vineyards and giving us information about the history and geography of the region. He also introduced us to small winemakers and gave us the opportunity to experience tasting rooms with multiple producers. Highly recommend!

      History and wine paired together
We have done many wine tours in Napa, so I was expecting a similar experience. But we were fascinated to learn about the history of winemaking in Burgundy, starting with the Romans, the monks, the French Revolution which has resulted in hundreds of small vineyards. Ann, our tour guide, also did a great job in explaining how wines are labeled - village, vineyard, cru - and we finished the day with a fantastic tasting.

      The best wine tour
We had the most amazing wine tour with Romain and Authentica tours. Everything was planned perfectly to make sure we had the most unbelievable experience. Romain is a knowledgeable and friendly Burgundy expert. We enjoyed spending the day visiting wineries and tasting amazing wines. I appreciated that Emmanuel was available before the tour to help with logistics and organizing to make sure we had the best tour.

      Best Burgundy Full-Day Private Tour
Excellent communication and organization with Tour Operator, Authentica Tours, from the moment we booked. They answered all of our questions in a timely manor and honored our request for Tour Guide Thomas, who respected our wish to taste Pinot Noirs rather than Chardonnays. Thomas arrived right on schedule and transported us in a clean, spacious and very comfortable Mercedes vehicle. He was a wealth of knowledge and keen on learning of our existing wine knowledge so as to keep things at an appropriate level of understanding yet elevating us to know more. And just as previous reviews state, Thomas did not disappoint with his sense of humor, which added so much to the experience we felt! The tastings were fabulous and at such different venues from one another. So nice that this tour included a terrific lunch with Grand Crus (ours at Compte Senard) and a quick stop to tour Chateau de Clos de Vougeot. We ended our tour tasting great reds in a cellar in Beaune. Thomas translated all that was said into English for us (he speaks both French & English fluently) and we purchased a favorite there for a later toast to a great splurge for our 40th Anniversary! Many thanks to Thomas, Authentica, & TripAdvisor!

      Not Enough Time
Was a bit disappointed. Only had 45 minutes in Beaune; not enough time. Drove through some quaint villages on the way from Dijon to Beaune with a few stops we got out to take photos. Guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. Not sure if that chewed up the time or the wine tasting but when we got to Beaune our guide told us she was concerned about traffic on the way back so we only had 45 minutes. There was a couple who had a 7:00pm train to catch so she was being conscious of their schedule.

Informative small group tour from a passionate guide
Such an interesting tour seeing the Burgundy wine villages. The guide was passionate, clear and fun. We came away with a greatly improved understanding of and enthusiasm for Burgundy, its wine and especially Nuits St Georges and Beaune. Merci!

      terrible experience
My husband and I had a very bad experience which did not live up to the reviews I’ve seen. I wouldn’t have come if I had known that the guide would spend most of the time speaking French despite there being only 2 French speakers out of a group of 8. The rest of the group were bored standing around listening to the back and forth in French. I think the mix language arrangement is a terrible idea. We weren’t given enough time to walk around in the Chateau du Clos de Vougeot, and were not given much information about what we saw (or maybe he did in French). In general, the guide offered very basic knowlege about wine. We were at the meeting point 5 minutes before the tour started, as requested, but the guide himself was late. We spent some time anxiously wandering around to see if there were any sign for Authentica Tours - there were none. After the tour ended, Authentica Tour sent me a request for review, which I replied with my complaint. I was surprised to find no response from them. I suspect they didn’t read my message. On the whole, a terrible experience.

This was a great tour through the Grand Cru region of Burgundy. Our guide, Lorenzo, was very knowledgeable, interesting and funny. The van was comfortable. The wine tasting was wonderful and the cellars underneath were quite amazing.

We spend a full day with our guide, Ann, who clearly explained the Burgundy region history and rich insights about the appellation vineyards and winemaking industry. She is a highly credible expert in Burgundy wine, answered all questions, and kept the day interesting, fun and entertaining - a high energy people person. The two wineries we visited offered a generous variety of exceptional quality wines to sample - we purchased two cases and Ann arranged all of the shipping for us at competitive rates. The free time in Beaune was perfect for a nice lunch. If you’re a wine fan this is the one - highly recommend!

I had always been happy with any glass of wine offered at restaurants. Wine tours I participated in did not influence me, and I would have foregone another wine tour...except the wine capital Dijon was different from the get-go. Premium Cru, the wine made from grapes harvested from a very limited hill area of Bourgogne, was offered by glass at the local eateries. Premium Cru was offered in Parisian restaurants, but only in bottles. Thus, it had been out of reach for a solo diner like me. However in Dijon I had my first sip. Like many other real deals are subtle, so was Premium Cru. But it made me anticipate that this wine tour might finally impact me.

The lady had moved to Dijon from America and studied the wine intensively. She shared her vast knowledge with the participants. The Bourgogne wine is very difficult to make because the makers adhere to the traditional method, and thus, it is all natural without any additives. This explains why my body reacted before my taste buds did. My wine consumption limit was always 1.5 glasses. However, with Bourgogne Premium Cru, I can have 4 glasses without feeling sick. What is more, my body rejects another type of wine with preservatives by turning my taste buds off from wine other than Premium Cru.

Oh, my God, I cannot afford such an expensive life. I will have to directly contact a wine producer (introduced during this wine tour) and stock up on Premium Cru wines at a price without margin.

The entire trip was amazing. Beautiful sites and excellent wine. Our tour guide Antonne was amazing. He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Have been on wine tours around the world and this was the best, in part to the area and history and the wine but also in large part to our guide.

One tip, bring cash as you will likely want to tip your guide but some wineries will offer a small cash discount.

I've been on 2 tours like this and have always liked them. It's a small group where you get to know some people from around the world and visit a couple of nice wineries while learning about the area, the wineries themselves and ultimately the wine. This experience was similar but worse for a couple of reasons. Starting with the positives: The van that held the 6 of us was relatively comfortable and the ride from each location wasn't very long. The wineries themselves were excellent. They included great viewing areas of the winery, a quiet and dedicated place to try the different wines, for one of the wineries there was a guide who was very helpful and informative, and at each winery we tried 6 different wines. The last wine that we tried was a $200+ bottle, which was exquisite. The negative of the trip mainly had to do with the guide. He was extremely nice but unfortunately: while driving and describing what we were going to see and reviewing the history of the area, he did not talk loud enough at all to hear. So for 2+ hours of total driving we missed everything that he was talking about, which I consider a huge negative. We were in the 3rd row and the rattling of the van's cargo area coupled with his quiet talking made it frustrating. Secondly, while we did the wine tastings, he gave us little feedback as to his thoughts on the wine or any real insight into the wine that we were drinking, which was also a major negative. So, overall, great wineries and wine, but get in the first row of the van and make sure the guide is experienced

I have been to cheaper and better wine tour. I came with my wife on our 2 week vacation, and this is by far the worst paid tour. Here is why…

Misleading pictures on website and poor experience:
    1. No explanation of wine making, storage, aging, bottling, barrel and etc.
    2. Guide was not enthusiastic, I.e., he would hardly talk in car/ winery (which we spent most of the time in the car).
    3. No tour to the wine making and storage facilities.
    4. Too hard sale in each tastings (only 2 by the way)
    5. No tour to vineyard of the 2 tasting.

We wanted to do a full day tour with Authentica, dive into the wineculture of Burgundy. When we booked, we were the only two guests for that tour, so Emanuel send us an e-mail within hours, proposing other options and dates in case no other booking would come in (minimum of 4 people on the trip, which we knew beforehand). As we were only in the area for 1.5 days, the other dates did not work out. He promised to keep us posted and he did! In the end, he proposed combining two half day tours, with a lunch in between that he arranged for us in a local restaurant in one of the towns we visited. It was the perfect day!

In the morning guide Jérémie drove us through the vineyards and told us tons of things about winemaking in Burgundy, starting with the monks. He seemed to know everything and shared his information with us. No question remained unanswered! First tasting was in a wine club with wines from 6 different estates. Then on to the cave of one of the many, many, many winemakers in Gevrey-Chambertin. We tasted six wines there - amazing to note how the different plots make each wine taste differently. This was accompanied by even more information from Jérémie and the sommelier of the winehouse.

We were dropped of for lunch at one of the favorite places of Jérémie and we loved it there. Great food and lots of great wines. There is a Michelin star restaurant, we ate in their bistro. Amazing!

After lunch, we were picked up by Johan. Jérémie had already shared so much information, but Johan added even more. We went to the Château du Clos de Vougeot with him and as he guided us through the building, we learned more about the history and the current situation. After that he drove us through the vineyards to another estate, showing the different plots and stopping for some great views; despite the rain. At the tasting (6 wines again), Johan showed all the different plots from the wines we were drinking on the map. Which is one of the best things I learned this day: you can see on the map where your wine comes from. Or even drive to that plot if you are in the area and you are interested in that.
For those planning to book: do it! These guys know wine. And more importantly are willing to share their knowledge. We asked so many questions and learned a lot. With so many winemakers in Burgundy, booking a tour with them will give you a great start. Absolutely recommend them!

Thanks a lot to everyone at Authentica! When we come back to Burgundy we will contact you again! Probably for a private tour ;)

Our tor guide Thomas was very knowledgeable about the area and the wines. His narration during the drive and in the wine tastings was cohesive and left us all with a great deal of information to process afterwards. He was great fun and kept us all amused during our tour.

Very fun itinerary, we couldn’t have had a better guide (Johan), and superb wine and food! Highly recommend! Great restaurants in Beaune during the middle of the day. If you want to visit the hospital in Beaune make sure to either get tickets ahead of time so you have a reservation or dont spend too much time at lunch (an hour) so you have the other remaining hour at your visit to explore the hospital.

Another note about shipping wine to your home if you decide to buy wine, ask your tour guide how this works before purchasing the wine if you don’t already know. From my understanding, you can ship 6 bottles of wine to the USA for $120 for shipping only in addition to the costs of the bottles of wine. The 6 bottles of wine also don’t all have to be from the same winery. If you decide to purchase the wine and have it shipped, you have to pay the higher price for the bottle for the VAT(?). Long story short, plan ahead if you’re purchasing the wine bottles and shipping them back home.

Our group (two couples) had a great day in Burgundy with Sonia as our guide! Sonia was the best-- she was incredibly informative and we learned so much about the region and wines. The two tastings were excellent and we were spoiled by the quality of the wine. Our free time in Beaune was the perfect amount of time to wander in town and have some local beef bourguignon. We would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn about and taste the wine of the region. Thanks again!
