- Capitol40 contributionsWonderful Loire Valley tour with Susan and SimonWe (American husband and wife) had a wonderful day tour with Susan and Simon in late October 2023. They met us at the local train station (telling us in advance which train to take from Paris and how to make the train reservations), drove us in their very neat antique car to tour Amboise and Chenonceau, arranged for lunch at a lovely local restaurant, and returned us to the station. Susan is incredibly knowledgeable about the chateaux and local history and culture. We had a very enjoyable trip and highly recommend their company.Written 13 November 2023
- P9157IFthomash0 contributionsPerfect Visit to the Loire Valley with local companyThis is our second marvelous tour with Susan and Simon. This time we took our children and grandchildren. Fantastic traveling in the classic Citroen, all the school kids wave, as if you were royalty! Susan is an expert, making the tours interesting, and fun for everyone, including teenagers! We got to eat lunch in typical French bistro, and had a dinner with them in a typical French riverside restaurant. They also recommended our hotel, which was a chateau on a huge property with excellent rooms, pool, fantastic restaurant, and friendly staff who are fluent in English, but willing to let you try your French. Do choose Loire Valley Time Travel. They will fashion a tour to your liking at any of the Loire Valley chateaux!Written 2 October 2023
- Hasbean0 contributionsA must for nature loversWe have recently done 2 guided nature walks with Susan, which were both very informative and a lot of fun! Susan is extremely knowledgeable on the subjects of botany, insects, butterflies and birdlife, as well as local history, so many topics were covered during our walks. However, she also specialises in orchids and there are many species to see in the Touraine. During our two walks we were lucky to see a total of 12 different orchids!Written 3 June 2021
- Nancy T0 contributionsWhat a Wonderful Day!We traveled by train from Montparnasse Station to St Pierre des Corps, where we were met by Simon, Susan and Celestine, and whisked away to a lovely day visiting the chateaux at Cheverney and Chenonceau, with stops to view other beautiful sights along the way. I had no idea that in addition to including admission to each site, a three-course lunch with wine, and a winery visit and tasting, we were also going to be treated to a comprehensive and personalized guided tour through history by the very knowledgeable Susan, an art and history expert who wove our way directly to the most intriguing spots at each site and cheerfully tailored our visit to the things we were most interested in rather than drowning us in details such as, for example, the complete history of armour (which she is also fully capable of covering for those who like that sort of thing). At the end of our day we were escorted right to the correct track and car number for a stress-free ride back to Paris. All in all a unique and wonderful experience, with photos and memories that will be cherished and revisited for many years to come. Highly recommended, especially for history buffs with a strong aversion to slogging around foreign places like schoolchildren on a crowded bus tour.Written 31 May 2019
- Fearless563658256490 contributionsA Day of Chateaux and Wine!Clare and I had a terrific time with Susan and Simon. We had such great day travelling around the local area visiting chateaux and wine makers and learnt so much. Claudette, the car, was just great and Simon was answering questions about her all day! We cannot recommend Loire Valley Time Travel Tours highly enough. Book with Susan and Simon and have a wonderful day. Paul CuttillWritten 2 November 2018
- Eric F0 contributionsWonderful Loire Valley TourMy wife and I spent a wonderful day with Susan and Simon in the Loire Valley. We visited Loche, Chenonceau and a Vouvray winery. Susan is an excellent tour guide. She is super-knowledgeable about the history of the Loire Valley and was able to bring that history to life. Simon is also very knowledgeable as well as fun and an excellent driver. Celestine the car was beautiful and comfortable for our tour. Our lunch at a locals restaurant was delicious and we really enjoyed getting to know Susan and Simon. Pedro at the winery walked us through the winemaking process and let us taste several wines. I will definitely take another tour with Susan and Simon on our next visit to the Loire Valley.Written 14 October 2018
- K C B0 contributionsA great tour of the Loire ValleySusan and Simon helped us plan and enjoy one of the best tours we have had anywhere. I originally noticed them because Susan is really into gardening and plants - which is a focus for my wife. When I corresponded with her she designed a two day trip that provided many beautiful gardens and even a “garden town”. Moreover, she more than satisfied my interest in seeing some of the historical sights. The transportation was a 1937 Citroen which was unexpectedly fun. Drivers and pedestrians were always waving and showing their appreciation for the classic car. Simon is a very good driver and an even better conversationalist. He also has a keen sense of Humor! Susan turned out to be much more than a plant person. She has such a broad knowledge base it is truly amazing! Her descriptions of the gardens and the various designs and contrasts were excellent. At the same, she continually amazed me at how she could bring history to life as we visited the Chateaus. I really appreciated how she could answer rather detailed questions about the lives of the various royalty. She is at least as good an historian as she is a horticulturist! Both days were just amazingly pleasant and enjoyable.Written 9 October 2018
- AussieDiva0 contributionsExperience of a Lifetime! Our day touring two magnificent chateaus (Chenonceau and Azay-de-Rideau) with Simon and Susan was a wonderful way to wrap up our holiday - and in great style, courtesy of Claudette, the '56 Citroen Roadster. What a beauty! After picking us up from our hotel, Simon chauferred us through the beautiful Loire Valley countryside while Susan shared her incredible knowledge about the history of the chateaus that we were visiting and much more along the way. They are wonderful hosts and I enjoyed it all the more being Australian myself (now living in Canada). We finished up our day with a delightful wine tasting in one of the troglodyte caves in Rochecorbon near where we were staying. If you're looking for an extraordinary experience with exceptional hosts, you don't need to look any further. You won't be disappointed!Written 17 July 2018
- Zack32390 contributionsBest Part of a Great TripThe two days we spent with Susan, Simon and Claudette ('56 Citreon) in the Loire Valley was the highlight of our London, Loire and Paris excursion!! You won't find any better guides and you absolutely have to travel about in their customized "style". We put ourselves in their hands and let them customize our tour. They hit on all cylinders and so did Claudette !!Written 11 October 2017
- MegLustman0 contributionsInformative, enjoyable and delightful dayWe had a great day with Susan and Simon. They collected us at our hotel in central Tours and introduced us to the gorgeous Claudette. She was extremely comfortable and it was great to be passengers in such a beautiful vehicle. Simon is a great driver and it was genuinely thrilling to drive around the picturesque French countryside (great roads!) in such style and comfort. We visited Loches - the market, the chateau and the donjon - and were expertly guided by Susan. She knows everything! Delicious lunch at a local restaurant followed by a visit to Montresor via a stunning series of villages. Another fascinating history lesson as we learned about the family of the chateau. Finally a visit to a great cave in Rochecorbon, a great family establishment with some unusual and delicious Vouvray. All in all, Simon and Susan are fabulous hosts: they are extremely generous with their knowledge and experience and it feels as if you are travelling with old friends. The four of us had a great day and would thoroughly recommend this exceptional and unusual way of exploring this beautiful part of the world.Written 3 September 2017
- d0nmcn0 contributionsWonderful Day OutA beautiful day spent in this French countryside being driven around in style. Susan is an inexhaustible font of knowledge. The local markets & cuisine are a real treat. The Chateau was gorgeous. Highly recommend this tour for anyone with a day or two available. We did the day trip by train from Paris & it all ran very smoothly being collected at the station by Simon and dropped back there again at the end of the day. Thank you for showing us a little part of your special world. Sue & Don, Canberra AustraliaWritten 29 August 2017
- nctraveler7720170 contributionsPerfect day trip from Paris -- with two wonderful guidesWife and I took a 5-day vacation to Paris this summer. We knew we wanted to get out of the city one day and tour the Loire, but we didn't want to go with a group of strangers on a group tour. Found Loire Valley Time Travel Day Tours online and were so lucky we did. Simon and Susan are about the nicest and most easy-going guides you could ask for. In fact, they were more hosts than guides. Incredibly polite and highly knowledgeable about the area, the history, the people and the culture. Susan customized our tour...we visited one chateaux, one winery, and then a wine merchant operating out of a cave. Each visit was unique and we enjoyed them immensely. BOOK THIS SERVICE. You won't regret it.Written 5 August 2017
- mhc6660 contributionsA lovely mix of chateauxWe really enjoyed our tour with Susan and Simon - and Celestine (the car!). Susan was very informative and they chose the chateaux well. We saw Cheverny (loved the dogs), Fougeres sur Bievre (a medieval fortress) and Chenonceau. We felt like maybe we could have fit in one more chateau during the day. We are not used to such long lunches (which was nice, of course) and thought we might have used some of that time at another chateau. Nevertheless, we do highly recommend this tour!Written 9 July 2017
- Patty B0 contributionsWonderful Way to TourTouring the Loire Valley in the classic car was a highlight of our vacation. Simon and Susan were full of information. Lunch at the local spot was great too. Would love to have been able to stay a few more days!Written 24 June 2017
- Pip P0 contributionsA Dream RealisedWe had a most fabulous day with Simon, Susan and Celestine. It was a dream come true for me as I have loved this model of Citroen for years and years. The driving was just as important to us as the sights. Susan's local and historical knowledge and attention to detail in the information she gave us was impressive. We learned so much about French and European history and the food culture of France. Lunch was casual in a local relais, followed up by wine and cheese tasting and a most fascinating visit to the mushroom caves. The day was well researched, well organised, professional and relaxed and friendly. As we were staying in a pedestrian only area of Tours Simon and Susan walked to meet us, and all communication for booking etc.was efficient and timely. Simon and Susan are a great couple to spend the day with. Simon's love for Celestine is very evident and together they provided a really fabulous experience for us. We have no doubt in recommending this tour. Kindest Regards, Cameron and PipWritten 6 June 2017
