Overview

This small-group walking tour narrates the full story behind hilly, history-filled Montmartre, one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in Paris. During this insider’s walking tour of the arts hub, you hear the stories and legends behind the artists that once made Montmartre their home, from Picasso to Toulouse-Lautrec. Learn about the golden age of bohemian Paris as you stroll cobblestoned streets and get a peek at landmarks such as the Moulin Rouge.

What to Expect

Join up with your guide and a group that caps out at eight people at a central Montmartre location.

Begin with the world’s most iconic cabaret: the Moulin Rouge, whose feisty French dances—including the cancan—inspired generations of painters. Montmartre is still a lively community, and your local guide shows you the best of the quarter’s cafes, shops, and hidden street art as you discover landmarks such as Au Lapin Agile, Picasso’s favorite hangout.

Listen to stories from the unruly golden age of Paris’s bohemian artists as you walk past the former residences of Van Gogh and Renoir, once fixtures in the neighborhood.

You conclude your tour at the spectacular Place du Tertre, still home to a large community of outdoor artists. Admire the ornate exterior of the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur while you gaze at a panorama of the legendary French capital.

Worth the Climb!

Fantastic leisurely walking tour ambling up Montmartre. Our guide (Deena) was punctual, friendly, and knowledgeable. She was concerned for our safety as we navigated the Parisian streets. She made us feel as if we had a buddy who really knew the neighborhood.

Our guide was 6 months pregnant, Mum is nearly seventy and we took our time. I’d say not too strenuous at all. 😀 Happy travels.

Not too bad. You take a leisurely walk up to the top. It is steep in parts but you’re not rushed.
