Great experience, great food, great Chef!
Oct 2019
My family of 4 (kids 14/16) did the experience including the shopping beforehand and we had a great time. We learned a lot about cheese and food on the shopping trip. For cooking the meal, everyone was able to participate as much as they wanted in all phases of the food preparation. We learned a lot about cooking and in the end were able to enjoy a delicious meal with good wine and good company. We highly recommend this experience!

A highlight of our visit to Paris
Dec 2019
To get right to the point, this experience exceeded my expectations, by far. Our charming guide and expert chef, Sara, met my wife and I near the Marche St. Germain. At the market we procured the freshest herbs, vegetables, fruits and meats to create our gourmet dinner. We learned more about the menu and the ingredients, chatted with the vendors, then headed to the very comfortable Le Foodist headquarters. Downstairs, a fully-equipped professional kitchen, upstairs a relaxing lounge and dining area. Preparing dinner under Sara's expert direction with three other convivial dinner companions / student cooks was a blast, and the results were absolutely delicious. Paired with some excellent wine, and followed by a fabulous dessert, it was an experience that I look forward to repeating on my next trip to Paris. Highly recommended!

Fabulous "Le Foodist"
Feb 2020
We came to Paris from Connecticut where 6 of us cook together at a catering company to do food research and get inspiration for 2020. We took a cooking class at "Le Foodist" the first day with Christophe doing the full dinner Class. It was Fantastic, Christophe was a wonderful Teacher and we learned so much in addition to having a blast and a fantastic meal at the end. We highly recommend!

Preparing a fancy French dinner
Nov 2019
We signed up for a dinner class and found ourselves elbow-deep in shallots, potatoes and cauliflower. Learned all kinds of great techniques and ideas for a fancy French dinner. It took 12 of us two and a half hours to prepare the meal, which we then all enjoyed sitting around a table with the delicious results of our hard work and plenty of red and white wine. Our chef teacher, Christophe, was patient and good humored with our group that included various ages, backgrounds and skill sets. This is a fun activity even if you aren't really into cooking. It is good for friends, couples, families, even solo attendees looking for something different to do one evening.

Bonjour ABPhiladelphia, thank you for your review of your experience with Christophe, learning to prepare what could be a fancy French dinner. I am very happy to read that the results were delicious and that you learned all kinds of great techniques. Our goal is indeed that you take back home what is to us much more than just recipes (which we send systematically though): techniques and a great memory as well. And thank you for highlighting the suitability for any kind of travelers; and you can do it one evening - or one morning - or even one afternoon. Any day of the week. Cheers Fred

Evening of fun
Dec 2019 • Solo
I LOVE this place. If could give it more than 5 stars, I would. The evening cooking class was one of the best classes I have taken. Frederic was a absolutely knowledgeable, delightful and funny. I had a blast and will be preparing the same menu when I return to the U.S. The techniques and explanation of how to look at food differently will remain with me forever. I was also fortunate to have a great group of people in the class and we have since become IG friends. I would highly recommend this place for classes when you come to Paris. Fred the owner, even though I didn't meet him personally, was magnificent in making sure I was able to take my classes(3) in spite of the difficulties due to the strike taking place at this time.

Bonjour Dawn, thank you so much for your lovely review of your experiences at Le Foodist and your high recommendation. And many merci in particular for your delightful account of your experience with Frederic. I am particulary happy that you will be preparing the same menu when you go back home - and you found the explanations and techniques important for you to look at food differently forever. Quite an achievement indeed. And I am glad we were able to make it all work out despite the complicated situation created by the strikes as well! Many thanks again Cheers, Fred

Sorry... But I didn't love this experience!
Nov 2019
This was my first solo trip to Paris and this class was a perfect activity for a social evening with companionship. I took a similar class in 2016 with La Cuisine Paris and by comparison, I enjoyed the 2016 class much more. Let me explain a bit more...
The class is taught in English... My group consisted of 3 couples and 3 singles - 6 women and 3 men - ages ranged from 30 to 65 -- all from the US.
Overall, I thought the pace of this class was off... The market addition made the class too long (4:30 PM start to 10:30 PM). The market visit did not add any value... We went to an indoor market - the menu was already selected - most ingredients were already purchased and we just stood around while our instructor, Frederic, purchased a few additional supplies. We spoke about cheese and sampled one cheese. We were provided with Metro Tickets (nice touch!) and then we took the metro 4-stops during rush hour. We arrived at the cooking school at 6 PM and spent a solid 30 to 45 minutes sitting around while Freddie prepared the kitchen.
The menu was disappointing: We prepared a Cauliflower Veloute Soup, a complicated dish of shredded Duck served in a cabbage leaf and a dessert with poached pear and ice cream. I love cauliflower soup but I found the soup to be absolutely terrible and flavorless. It was prepared with 100% milk - no stock so it had a strange and terrible flavor and texture. The Duck dish was interesting and the poached pear was very basic and a bit bland. Wine was served throughout the evening although wine consumption was discouraged during the meal prep. We didn't sit down to dinner until 9:30 PM! It was a long night... maybe I was jetlagged?
So overall, this was a fine experience but certainly not a 5-star experience, not a $200 value, and not something I would recommend or do again.

Bonjour Kecia, thank you for having made a copy / paste of your review from Google to Tripadvisor - in case people would have missed it :-) So rather than type a new response, which obviously you do not care about, I am just going to copy my response: Bonjour Kecia, thank you for your review and photos. And sorry for your obvious disappointment. I will however address some of your points for the benefit of people reading your extensive review. 1. "we went to an indoor market". Indeed! As explained by Frederic open air markets are only open in the morning and covered market in the evening. So you can not go to another market than a covered market in the evening ... 2. "the market addition made the class too long". Well well - we just do what we say; indeed a market visit adds about 1h15 to 1h30 to the experience ... I am not sure how that could be a surprise since you signed-up for it, but contrary to the other school you signalled, with us you have the option to NOT join the market visit 3. "the market visit did not add any value". To you. To many many people, as consistently reviewed, the market visit adds a lot of value. The information provided about the cheeses, the produce, the Parisian market culture (explaining when which type of market is open for example), etc... and the tasting are usually very well received. 4. "spent a solid 30 to 45 minutes sitting around". I happened to be at the school when you came back from the market (at 5:45 pm), and indeed the transition into the kitchen was much longer than usual - as it happens it probably lasted 20 minutes (I realize the vagueness in your statement "a solid 30 to 45 minutes" is there for emphasis, and obviously not for accuracy). There was a combination of three unique reasons for this and I am sorry it happened. 5. "The menu was disappointing". At this stage, I can not be surprised by your disappointment since it seems everything was wrong .... But as you do not actually criticize the duck dish (just deem it complicated - welcome to France) I have to assume that it was excellent :-) And the same for the home made ice cream and chocolate sauce which went with the pear? As far as the cauliflower soup is concerned, since it has been reviewed so many times, I will just assume it was a personal distaste. Having written all this, the fact remains that I am very sorry that the experience you had did not meet your expectations. Cheers (the other) Fred

Outstanding cooking experience
Dec 2019
My husband and I were thrilled with our experience. Sara, our chef and tutor, was fantastic....very warm, funny, knowledgeable. Generous with her techniques and stories...from french cheeses to knife handling, she had fun and amusing stories about everything related to our menu for the night. She taught us about what to look for in the markets, identifying which produce to choose and which to avoid (and why). She’s a dervish in the kitchen! Her demos were great, and she was helpful and supportive when overseeing our progress.
The facilities are top notch....impressive kitchen with everything a chef or cooking staff would need. The dining area was tasteful (pardon pun), elegantly decorated, evocative lightning.
Over all it was a dynamite experience. We would do it again, and again, and again.......

Bonjour carmstro249, what a wonderful review of your experience with Sara. From techniques to stories, from cheese to knife handling, from the market to her continuous support in the kitche, indeed it sounds like you had a fantastic experience. I am happy to read you also enjoyed our facilities throughout. We will look forward to welcoming you again, and again, and again ... All the best Fred
