Overview

The Louvre Museum is one of the most celebrated museums in France, if not the world, and with this small group tour you'll get to see some of its finest offerings. You and up to five other people will join a local art historian, spending three hours admiring some of the museum's loveliest sculptures, paintings, and artifacts.

What to Expect
The world's most visited museum, the Louvre is a must-see for any visit to Paris. In the company of a knowledgable art historian, during the three-hour tour we will explore this venerable institution's most significant collections, weaving a timeline of art and history using the Louvre's masterpieces.

Meeting near the museum, we begin with a brief introduction to the building's history in the Cour Napoleon, learning about its transformation from medieval fortress to magnificent palace over the course of five centuries. Entering the museum, we normally spend some time in the antiquities section, famous for its stunning collection of Egyptian works and awe-inspiring Greek and Roman sculptures, including the Venus de Milo and Winged Victory.

We will then move on to what, for many, is the heart of the Louvre: the grand galleries of Italian painting. Here, we will encounter some of the greatest works of art in the western world, including masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci and Veronese.
Equally important to the Louvre's collections are the French Master paintings, which occupy the adjoining series of rooms. Through the eyes of your guide, you will learn about the late 18th and early 19th century rival art movements of Neoclassicism, led by David, and Romanticism, spearheaded by Gericault and Delacroix. These large format paintings truly bring your visit full circle to the final periods of the museum's collection.

Kids tour, though didn’t seem kid friendly

Our tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable, but we requested the kids tour and it didn’t seem geared towards kids. My 2 younger boys were kinda bored. The adults learned a lot though.
