    Harlem in Paris
It was very interesting to hear about all the contributions that African Americans made to the French culture and freedoms.

So much, African American History in Paris!
The Magnificent “Mrs. Ellen” will guide you on your Harlem in Paris! The “Harlem in Paris: the Birth of Jazz in France” walking tour is a fascinating exploration of a unique cultural infusion that reshaped the Parisian music scene. This tour delves into the warm reception of African American service members by the French during World War I, a pivotal moment that laid the groundwork for an enduring friendship. This connection facilitated the flow of Harlem’s jazz into the heart of France, where it found a passionate audience. The tour brilliantly highlights the remarkable accomplishments of African American entertainers, musicians, and writers who made Paris their home. These pioneers not only brought their art to the European stages but also thrived as entrepreneurs, with many owning clubs, homes, and businesses that became central to their communities in Paris. The narrative includes tales of legendary figures like Josephine Baker, who became a star on the Paris stage and an icon of the Jazz Age, and writers like Langston Hughes, whose work resonated with themes of freedom and racial harmony. As you walk the streets of Paris, the tour vividly brings to life the vibrant atmosphere of the jazz clubs during the Roaring Twenties and the profound impact of these artists on French culture. The “Harlem in Paris” tour is not just a historical journey; it is a tribute to the resilience and creativity of a community that, despite facing adversity, left an indelible mark on the world.

    Wonderful Tour - Outstanding!
Ellen truly brought 1920's Paris to life on the Lost Generation Writer's tour! My girlfriend and I learned so much about the writers and artists who made Paris their home during that period. And more than that, she is a gifted guide and storyteller. Cannot recommend her enough, and we hope to come back for one of her other tours!

    The Best Tour Ever
Ellen is amazing!. She is an amazing storyteller. I’ve been looking forward to this tour with her for a while. She provided pictures, videos, songs of artists and a souvenir booklet, something I’ll always cherish. Joy B.

    A fascinating walk with Hemingway
My wife and I loved this tour! We had recently seen Ken Burns' documentary and have visited Hemingway's former home in Key West several times, so we had some understanding of Hemingway's life, but both of us were very impressed with the depth of Ellen's knowledge of Hemingway and his life. She answered all of our questions and provided unknown insight into this American icon. Thank you, Ellen, for such an enjoyable tour! And a special thanks for the chocolate mousse!

    Great, easy walking tour!
My husband and I had a great time on this tour! Ellen was very knowledgeable about Hemingway, and while this is technically a walking tour, we enjoyed sitting and sipping on coffee (not included in tour fee) during her introduction, as well as finishing the tour over cocktails (not included in tour fee) at Le Select. She also gave us a list of jazz club options, from which we selected the perfect spot for us the next evening! Highly recommend all that Ellen has to offer!

    Fantastic Tour
Loved our tour. Ellen was extremely knowledgeable, full of interesting anecdotes and took us to hidden treasures that we would never have found on our own. She brings her tablet so you can see historic pictures that highlights the profound changes that have happened in Paris. We loved the cheese tasting! Ellen is a real treasure, very generous with her time and by the end we felt like we were saying goodbye to a friend and not a tour guide.

    Stories that everyone should know!
This tour exceeded my expectations. I was particularly interested in Josephine Baker. There were so many musicians covered, including many unknown and untold stories of Black Jazz musicians who earned their place on this tour and in our history books. The tour started in a speakeasy-style bar that was fascinating in and of itself. Ellen has done such a beautiful job putting together the stories of the black musicians who made Paris home and shared so much history and context of the time. The tour included music clips of the artists discussed and pictures to accompany Ellen's amazing storytelling. I plan to take other tours with Ellen when I return to Paris.

Both the tour AND the guide were amazing!
Traveling with friends, we ended up being the only four on this tour with Ellen and it was amazing! She was accommodating when we had to reschedule at the last minute and still made our tour feel scandalous even though it was during the day with coffee instead of cocktails! Between the detailed presentation Ellen showcases along with the history of jazz, we were captivated. Ellen is a dream and we will definitely be taking more of her tours next time we are in Paris. Thank you!!!

Our tour guide was Ellen and she was wonderful! She put together a two day tour for our small group of six. We sent her a list of various churches and areas we wanted to visit along with Musee d’Orsay. She planned the itinerary, bought tickets and passes we needed and was very knowledgeable about the areas we visited. Many of these were “ out of the way” and not your typical tourist attractions. We had a lovely time with her.She was great!

    Fantastic tour!
This tour is fantastic for anyone wanting to wander back in time, learn bits of history and really appreciate the changes over time. Ellen is a wonderful tour guide with a knack for connecting and conversation. She answered questions big and small with enthusiasm and encouraged an appreciation for learning. I can’t wait to return and do other tours with her!

Fun and informative 1920’s Paris walking tour
Ellen took my 10 USA university students and me on this walking tour. It was exactly what we were looking for! She was so knowledgeable and offered many interesting details about Gertrude Stein, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and many others. She really kept our attention during a very hot day. The talk in the shade in Luxembourg gardens was a nice addition. We ended at a charming cafe with more stories of the “lost generation.” I will definitely book another one of her tours when I come back. Highly recommend.

The unknown history of Harlem in Paris
Ellen was a wealth of knowledge on the history of Harlem jazz in Paris. She shared intriguing (and sometimes scandalous) information on jazz icons while also introducing me to a few lesser known jazz greats. The stories kept me eager to hear more. The walking multi-media tour is a must for jazz aficionados and history buffs!

Wonderful tour not to be missed!
My wife and I had a wonderful time on the Hemingway tour with Ellen. Great communication with Ellen and easy meet-up got the tour off to a great start. It only got better with the mix of history lesson and sightseeing that would be enjoyable for the most ardent Hemingway fan or someone who is just looking for an alternative to the standard Paris walking tour. Thanks Ellen next time we’ll have time to take you up on the drink at Harry’s!

My husband and I spent several days with Ellen on our recent trip to Paris. If you are looking to take a deep dive into the neighborhoods of Paris, Ellen is the guide for you! Ellen is excellent at tailoring a special tour just for you. She provides great context for everything she shows you, complete with photos and images that she brings along.

Ellen walked with us through the Medieval Heart of Paris (Ile de la Cite and Ile St. Louis), the Palais Royal District, Montmartre (where the Impressionist Painters lived and worked), Marais and Montorgueil. For each segment of the tour, we learned about Paris’ early inhabitants, it’s architectural evolutions, and political revolutions.

Ellen provided other wonderful services; such as:
• Ellen took us to the Musee d’Orsay to see the works of the Impressionist artists we had just studied in the Montmartre district.
• A special shopping tour in the Marais.
• Ellen made restaurant recommendations and then secured our reservations.
• Ellen helped to secure our tour of the Louvre.

We have had several tour guides throughout our travels – Ellen will go above and beyond your expectations!

I joined Ellen for the Medieval Paris tour and had a wonderful time. This is a great tour if you're short on time in Paris, or just want to learn more about medieval history. We visited Pont Neuf, Isle de la Cite, the Conciergerie, Saint Chapelle, Notre Dame, and Isle Saint Louis.

Ellen really knows her history, and made seeing familiar places seem like the first time. She also introduced me to new places I'd never visited, and pointed out things I wouldn't have noticed on my own. I highly recommend booking a tour with Ellen while you're in Paris!

I visited Paris recently with family. I am pleased we chose to do Ellen's private guided tour. All of us enjoyed it a lot. Ellen didn't rushed the tour, she even did more time than she said on tour details. She made sure my son (8 years old) is also involved in the tour and kept interacting with him and asking him some interesting questions to keep his interest.

We loved everywhere Ellen took us. With our limited knowledge about Christian history, she made sure to make things bit easy for us to understand. It was very informative trip for us. All of us loved it.

It was the best thing we did in Paris and we will always remember Ellen for this memory. Plus you are here dealing with single person not a big tour company, so you will get very personal experience .

I will highly recommend tours done by Ellen and may do another of her tour's when I am next in Paris.

My virtual view on the tour was to my liking, you can now learn more about the history of the cathedral, such as what was built between 1163 and 1245 on the City island and as they call the cathedral, it is the heart of Paris, which is also I was able to get to know Paris and its history. On the tour I was also able to observe the beautiful architecture that the cathedral has and the beautiful works of art that are inside, it is totally made of pure art and I would certainly like to return again one day.
