We have taken many food tours in different cities. We were completing a month tour of France. This was our third food tour. It did not begin to compare with our food tours of Lyon or Nice. The first stop was a smelly old covered market where we we tasted socco. This is a Nice comfort food. Next was a super Chocolate shop. No stop for coffee. The last stop was a wine stop. We were served a wine that the guide claimed was a Southern Rhone. Only problem the wine contained Cabernet Savignon, this is not a grape of the Rhone. The tour was not worth the price, The guide was excellent, but this company needs to improve its choices of stops.

To sum this up - it poured down all morning but we loved this tour anyway. Michelle, the guide, was excellent. She kept everyone feeling happy in spite of the rain and went the extra mile to make sure everyone was catered for. The stops we made were all excellent - we even went back to the chocolate shop to purchase some more macaron's - definitely recommended.
We've been on Devour tours before (in Madrid) and both times found the entire experience to be hugely enjoyable.

The tour was very well organized and the restaurant and food selection thought out and selected based on quality, tradition, and authenticity of Parisian cuisine. Our guide, Michelle, was very knowledgeable of the food and Parisian history and made the tour entertaining and educational. I highly recommend this tour and this guide.

To start, our guide was great. I had no issues with her or her knowledge of the area and France in general. In fact conversations with her were the best we had the whole trip!
My issue lies in the fact that for a private tour of 2 people, which cost about 400euro (the equivalent of a 3 course meal each at a fancy caviar restaurant), we were presented with places that were nice, but certainly not great. The small morsels of food were great for tasting, but I think more could have been sampled. Dividing a small 3 inch beef mince pastry 2 ways from a cafe that served beautiful sandwiches seemed a bit silly. And everyone has heard of Poilane bakery, Apollonia is all over Facebook in a multitude of ads in Asia- I imagined a food tour would do better to find a bakery that is not mainstream and known the world over. But at the same time the tour completely walked past the famous falafel place in the Jewish neighbourhood? Why?
One great place was the deli that served cheese and meats- certainly worth a visit.
My review is based on two well travelled people who have sampled foods in many parts of the world, and done a few food tours. So if you're after something out of the ordinary, hidden gems or some unconventional French food, then this isn't for you. This tour is very much about sampling the obvious, and something that can be found from a quick google search and a map on your phone. This tour would best suit travelling newbies, those new to France, or those not too adventurous when it comes to food as everything on this tour is safe, small and boring.

Dear fennelM, Thank you for taking the time to review our Ultimate Paris Food tour. We are very happy you enjoyed spending time with our guide so much, and that conversations with her were the best you had the entire trip! At the same time though, we are also very disappointed you found our service to be boring and not worth the price. While it is true you could have enjoyed a 3 course meal at the same cost, had you chosen that option your tastings would have been limited to 3 instead of 11 and would have not received any historical or culinary background, which we believe to be essential to the experience. As a matter of fact, we pride ourselves in hiring only the best and most engaging guides available, and pay them a fair wage. We also try to include all the best tastings the neighbourhood has to offer, which leads us to visit both historical and family run shops. Although smaller venues might seem more interesting, passing in front of Poilane Bakery without savouring their world famous bread just does not seem fair to us.! Finally, please keep in mind that you booked a private experience, which is always much more expensive than a group service, as it provides a more intimate setting, and can be completely catered to suit the clients’ needs. Again, we are terribly sorry for not meeting your expectations and hope that if you ever find yourself visiting any other location we serve, you will give us another chance. Sincerely,

We have been coming to Paris for years and always wanted to do a food tour to delve a bit deeper into the food and culture. The choice was a little overwhelming but I chose Devour as I liked the idea of tasting as you go and also that they were supporting small family businesses. It was brilliant.

Jess was very engaging and clearly loves what she does. All the businesses we visited greeted her like family, they were all expecting us, there was space for us to hang out and the atmosphere was very welcoming. They were delighted to be showing off their excellent food and craft and were happy to see us coming. I was a little concerned before hand that we would be tolerated at best on one of these tours. Definitely not the case.

On a cold and rainy January morning trucking our umbrellas we had a wonderful time. We were a small group so it was like a private tour. Two adults and one teenager and we all loved it.

Outside each spot we got a history of the food, the family and a broader history of the country, area, wars and culture where relevant. Once inside there were greetings all round and a discussion of the food we were eating. Pain au chocolat, sourdough bread, macarons, chocolate, cheese, ham, Jewish savory pie, chickpea pancakes (socca) and wine.

We'd give Jess 6 stars if we could.

Thank you! What an amazing review. I'm really blushing now! It was a real pleasure getting to know the three of you, and wonderful to be able to share new things with people who've stayed in le Marais so often before! You are almost locals! At Devour, we're always trying to look deeper, go further into history and food, so even seasoned travelers like yourselves can come on tour and find something new, but still accessible. It's important for us, as guides, to keep the information fresh, so we have to find new and interesting things to talk about all the time! Thanks for your questions and input, and I'm looking forward to your next trip to Paris! All the best, Jess

I went to Paris recently for a business trip were my hubby was able to join me. I had some free time so we set up a Food Tour of Le Marais after watching a you tube video of Devour Tours. We were not disappointed, we were really lucky in that Jess only had the 2 of us on the tour. The tour itself was fabulous, Jess is not only extremely knowledgable and loves what she does, but she has a fantastic sense of humor. As foodies, this was a truly memorable experience we would not have been able to do on our own. Jess your are a marvel... and we truly enjoyed spending the day with you.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour, and based on this experience I will sample other Devour Tours in other cites... Spain soon ; ;

Spent a great day with Joshua tasting food and discovering hidden gems all over the Marais. Croissants, local Jewish delicacy's, deli shop cheeses and sausages, macaroons, southern France chickpea 'pancakes', meringue treats, traditional quiche, and organic wines - we now have new 'go to' places we would have unlikely found on our own. Plus lots of tidbits of Parisian history. Lovely experience!

My husband and I absolutely loved our Ultimate Food Tour here in Paris! Our guides were so informative on French history, foods, and the local area. They were fun and thoughtful, too! We enjoyed many different tastings and were full when through. We will definitely do another tour with #DevourTours in the future and highly recommend you do the same!

My daughter and I had the privilege last week of being guided and informed by Devour Tour’s own Jess from Liverpool. And what a delight she was! She introduced us to a variety of French cuisine and also educated us in the philosophy of a baker, an onion soup expert, and some history of World War II in France and how it affected French Jews in Paris. Jess presented us with fascinating information on all of these subjects and I will be talking about these experiences for a long time to come. And all the food we had was delicious!
I enthusiastically recommend this tour to anyone interested in French food, wine, and why the French are so particular about what they eat.

Thank you LeslieIrene for leaving such a warm review! It was certainly a pleasure to meet you and your daughter in Paris, and share the city we love with you! In the past, people have questioned my authority on French culture - how can I be an expert but not be from here? And I always counter this in the same way. Mine is an outsider's perspective, and it's with my Liverpool eyes and head that I discover the world. I bring my outsider's perspective when I discover new things, I try to fit it into the things I've grown up with, or associate it to things I already know. I think we all do that. It makes it easier for me to share my adopted culture with other Anglophones, because I've been the one annoyed that the waiter isn't bringing me the check, or gone into a bakery and started touching things...!! (a definite no-no!) I've made the common mistakes that feel right in the UK, but are definitely NOT right in France, and I'm sharing so you can feel more comfortable and welcome in this wonderful city I've had the privilege to call home for eight years. So come back soon, there's more I want to share! Best wishes, Jess

Our tour guide, Jess, was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history and food culture of Paris. She gave a very entertaining and enlightening walking tour of the historical Le Marais district of Paris. If you don't know the city well, it's a fun and worthwhile experience that will probably motivate you to take a deeper dive into aspects of the diverse cursory tastes she has you participate in.

Hello again! Thank you for choosing to come on tour with us! I felt honored to have two of the most knowledgable people about food and history on tour with me!! It's great to meet like minded food and history buffs, and at Devour, we work on having a healthy collection of food and history specialists in each one of our cities! When you make it back to Europe, be sure to check us out in London, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, San Sebastian or Seville - we're waiting for you! See you on a farm sometime soon! All the very best, Jess
