About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- L9079ZCpatriciag0 contributionsMoving day touring WW2 sites and surrounding towns. My friend Craig booked our private tour for 4 in July 2023 for our October 2024 cruise ship stop in Le Harve. We chose the following Itinerary - Longues sur Mer Batteries, Omaha Beach, American Cemetery & Bayeux. We met our friendly and charming guide Ben at 8 am and off we went. His breadth of knowledge was outstanding and along with his maps and photos really made D Day come alive for us. Because of the small van size we were able to directly access Omaha Beach and stand where the US troops had landed. Looking up the bluff as our troops did that day was incredibly moving. The beautifully landscaped and tranquil American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach was wonderful as well . We really enjoyed our visit to Bayeux with its beautiful cathedral and gorgeous tapestry museum. Relaxing lunch in town and we headed back to Le Harve. Unfortunately due to a random road closure we did not stop in Honfleur but used the rest of our time to tour around the port city. There were huge stockpiles of wind turbines that will soon be placed in the ocean. I can not say enough how much our group enjoyed this tour, tires and all! (Inside joke)Written 12 October 2024
- garysP1947ED0 contributionsAn emotional experienceWe were so fortunate to get a last minute reservation for the 9B Day Tour, with pick up and drop off from our cruise ship. Valentine was a wonderful tour guide with a wealth of knowledge about D-Day - as we visited Omaha Beach he showed photos and maps to take us back in time and even drew a diagram of the Allied invasion in the sand. Our visit to the American Cemetery was so moving, we just wish we had more time there to see the Visitor Center. Our visit to Bayeaux was lovely and we had time to enjoy a stop at a restaurant to get crepes, at Valentine's recommendation. Our final stop at Honfleur was lovely - just long enough to stroll around and visit a few shops. I think I would have given up some time at either place to have more time at the American Cemetery. An experience I will never forget and am so grateful we had the opportunity to go with Overlord Tours.Written 10 October 2024
- Y9585RKjenniferk0 contributionsGreat tour - Ben was awwesome! We had a half day tour with Ben. He was absolutely a delight. My 24 year old son was with my husband and me. He said he found Ben to be very engaging and he paid attention to all the details Ben told us about. We had time to walk on the beach and it was extremely low tide - Ben showed us the yellow buoy marking where the tide was when the boats landed on the beach. By the time we left the tide was coming in and the buoy was surrounded by water. The cemetery was also very moving. We cannot say enough good things about this tour and especially Ben who made it a trip to remember!Written 10 October 2024
- featman0 contributionsAll Encompassing Tour!!Absolutely all encompassing! Want to feel “not so smart” for a day? Do this tour and be lucky enough to get David as your Guide. More than a guide, he is an educator and has the book writing, Oxford and thesis to back it up. This tour had special meaning for me as my Dad landed on Utah Beach 80 years ago. As David pointed out, he was fortunate to “draw a long straw”. Hence, I am here. We went to ALL the MEANINGFUL sites and David was non stop with providing details. It was a challenge to keep up and retain. We were fortunate to get great weather as well. God bless the Allied Forces. They saved the world. Never ForgetWritten 8 October 2024
- Jerms790 contributionsCompassionate peopleMy wife and i had a scheduled tour last week that we were una to attend due to a death of long time friend of mine. Overlord people were extremely compassionate and responsive when i explained our situatiion and refunded us our money even though we were way past the deadline they have. it was kind gesture and the way they responded was so thought. i hope we are able to retuen soon and thank them in person.Written 7 October 2024
- Trek200687560830 contributionsA Highlight of Our TripOur tour was Oct. 3. Our guide, Remy, did a wonderful job. He was passionate, personable and informative. He effectively explained the big picture of the invasion, as well as sharing many pertinent stories of individuals. The tour was a highlight of our trip to Europe.Written 6 October 2024
- georgebH5358MB0 contributionsNormandy Beaches and Area TourWe were traveling with three other couples and this was the last day of our wonderful vacation. The eight of us were picked up at Les Chambres de Capucine in Carcagny (also an EXCELLENT place to stay) by our Overlord Tour guide, Remy. The day long tour of Omaha and Utah Beaches and the surrounding area was beyond excellent, superb! Remy made the day come alive with his professional and passionate presentation of the history of D-Day, the events to follow and how it impacted the people of Normandy and beyond. He took great care to ensure that we were able to reflect on the history while also keeping the tour on track. He made reservations for our group for lunch at Les Cremaillere which was an excellent atmosphere with very good food options and prompt, friendly service. Wow, what a marvelous day and experience. Everyone in our group will highly recommend Overlord Tours and you will be especially blessed if Remy is your guide.Written 6 October 2024
- carolinetI609EJ0 contributionsFantastic Tours with knowledgeable and pleasant guidesWe opted for a private tour guide for my husband and I….AMAZING. Valentine was so knowledgeable and his personality was great….we spent the day in an immersive course but laughed and enjoyed ourselves the entire time. I absolutely recommend Overlord Tours - we did a group tour 5 years ago and now a private tour and both were better than anticipated.Written 5 October 2024

It was an experience of a lifetime and the OVERLORD tourguide, Guillame made that possible for my wife and I along with our 4 sons. - X8473AVdougb0 contributions3 wonderful experiences in NormandyWe had 3 full day private tours. One of Juno, one Omaha and one Band of Brothers. Antoine, Remy and Ben were each fabulous. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic and all the time in the world to adjust to our requests. 5 stars each. One very tiny note is to the invitation to provide this review; you mention only the U.S. The 4 of us are Canadian and one lost a relative in the war. Not to minimize at all the contribution of Americans to the war, but they were not aloneWritten 1 October 2024
- W7105UDsueb0 contributionsAntoine, Remy and Ben - all 5 star OVERLORD guides and experts on D Day and the beaches of Normandie! We were fortunate to have 3 different guides for our 3 consecutive day tours - Juno, Sword, Omaha, Utah, easy Company - Band of Brothers but equally knowledgeable and wonderful to be with. Individually and together their expertise was top notch. We had 3 cold, rainy days but no corners were cut. We saw everything we hoped to see and many expected bonuses. We were so happy with their unified approach that it is important to remember theses soldiers and their battlesWritten 1 October 2024

We had the most beautiful day ( besides the rain) learning and visiting the Band of Brothers sites. Each step we took with Rethro, our guide and driver, was loaded with visual awe and admiration for the Band of Brothers. Rethro knew his stories well and taught us and reminded us of the history. We saw many sites that were part of the story but clearly not part of just any tour. We loved all the extras of this tour. I truly have a whole new respect for all of our soldiers. Well done Rethro and Overland tours. Well done!!!!

Our guide was charming and knowledgeable but he would begin speaking before everyone had gathered around. A pet peeve of mine especially since there were no real dawdlers in our group. It was also difficult to hear and understand him thru the mask. He forgot to offer the water he brought on board until the last stop. The tour was on time with pick up. The vehicle was clean. The stops were interesting especially since we had prepared by watching the movie which I would highly recommend if you choose this tour. However in retrospect, I think I would have enjoyed the traditional Omaha/Utah combination tour as much if not more

My husband and I recently took the full-day tour. Our guide was Olivier and he was fabulous! His depth of knowledge and personality combined with the locations he took us to were amazing! He had many inside unique stories and knew the personal stories of WWII veterans along with historical photos to prove it. It is clear that this is a labor of love.
We covered a lot of ground and learned so much more than if we had tried to do it ourselves. He has a good feeling for anticipating his group's needs and slows or increases the pace as needed. At the end of the day, we were able to see so many sites, visit the Normandy American Cemetery, and even had time to visit the Airborne Museum. We stayed in lovely Bayeux the night before to take the tour the next morning( recommended)
This tour was worth the price.

The Omaha and Utah (US invasion) band of brother tour with Yannick was excellent! Yannick is very knowledgeable and has charismatic storytelling to engage his group. The locations were great and told many different stories related to Normandy invasions. The full day tour allows for plenty of time to visit locations. Our private tour allowed ample time with Yannick and time for a sit down lunch. 10/10 would recommend!

We did a six-person Band of Brother tour in late July with ages from 8 to 80. It was incredibly informative and, our tour guide, Charles was quite possibly of the best guide any of us had ever had on any tour. His lifelong study of this material comes through at every point and he illuminates the events of the invasion as you’re standing in the places where it all took place. Some of us had a fair amount of prior knowledge and others had almost none. Charles made it interesting for all of us in ways that we were discussing long after the tour ended. The company was very helpful as well. Highly recommend.

We as a group of 10 friends had the pleasure of experiencing a tour with Thierry in Normandy on June 3rd and we couldn't have been more impressed.
Thierry's depth of knowledge and passion for the history of the Normandy landings truly brought the stories to life. His engaging storytelling and insightful commentary made each stop on the tour incredibly meaningful. His ability to connect historical events with personal anecdotes provided a unique and memorable perspective on the significance of D-Day.
The tour was well-organized, with each location carefully selected to enhance our understanding of the events of June 1944 and he went out of his way to accommodate our requests. Thierry was not only informative but also attentive to the group's needs, ensuring that everyone had a comfortable and enriching experience, he even arranged a lunch booking for us! His friendliness and willingness to answer all our questions made the day both enjoyable and educational.
We would all highly recommend Thierry and OverlordTour for anyone looking to explore the history of Normandy. This tour exceeded all our expectations, and we left with a deeper appreciation for those who fought during World War II.
Thank you, Thierry, for an unforgettable experience!

Our tour with Thierry was absolutely amazing!! Thierry had extensive knowledge and answered all of our many questions — even staying a few hours later than the scheduled tour time to chat. We were able to actually walk through Brecourt Manor because Thierry knew the farm owner, which my Dad absolutely loved. Thierry added intimate facts to the tour that brought to life the events that happened in 1944. This was the highlight of our trip to Normandy!

Our trip tour guide was Yannick, and his knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject, and the stories connected to the elements of the tour were excellent. He provided stories of the humans involved throughout, while providing excellent detail about the places we visited.
10/10 highly recommended, and although it is a packed itinerary, it never felt rushed, and each stop gives ample time to explore a little.
Yannick was brilliant, and energised what would have otherwise felt like a long day!

We took a two day tour (Day 1 with Pierre Day 2 with Yannick). Our two guides couldn’t have been more knowledgeable or enthusiastic. Their grasp of historical context was scholarly and conveyed in a way to make the subject interesting to all. They also were able to go into extreme detail and managed all sorts of questions no matter how deep or shallow. Between the context and the detail, both guides wove a number individual combatant stories that brought the experience closer to us. They made it fun and engaged the whole tour. At the same time they both conveyed the seriousness of the subject matter and made sure everyone understood the magnitude of the Overlord undertaking and the challenges faced by the invading force.

I’m very delayed in writing this review, but I have nothing but great things to say about Overlord. I did the full day, Band of Brothers tour (because I loved the TV show). It’s been 25 years since my last visit to Normandy and I am so glad I came back. It was overwhelming - in a great way.
Booking the tour was seamless and Hope (from Overlord) was very communicative and ensured that I had every single detail that I needed.
Although I was a solo traveler, I was put with a group of 3 couples (who were all incredibly kind) and our guide was Rémy. I am a history buff (especially when it comes to WWII), but Rémy taught me some history that I never knew! I knew nothing about the US Army’s 6888th battalion until Rémy shared the story during our journey.
The full day tours are long, but so worth it, especially when you have a guide like Rémy and you are placed with a great group of folks.
Note: it’s ALWAYS cold in Normandy. When I visited 25 years ago, in July, it was cold, and when I visited in October 2023, it was still cold. So dress appropriately because you will be outside for most of the day.
Thank you to all the staff at Overlord Tours; I look forward to bringing friends and family to Normandy to enjoy this experience too.

Is there a great deal of walking involved? Just trying to prepare ourselves.
Written 6 September 2024
For Band of Bros tour all walking is essentially voluntary, the longer trek's such as Omaha Beach, Cemetery museum, Pointe Du Hoc are probably the longest, but not too arduous at all. Pick your tour based on your knowledge of WWII and D-DAY. This one follows some of the steps of a particular airborne unit. Oliver was our guide. Good Dude.

What age is considered an adult for purposes of the tour?
Written 6 May 2022
I don’t know the exact age, but our guide had so much information regarding troop divisions, military leadership names, etc., that I doubt anyone under 16 years would enjoy this.

We will be driving in from Caen. Where is a good place to park the car for the day?
Written 10 July 2019
We just took this tour a couple weeks ago and the best spot to park was Parc Michel Ornano...perhaps a five minute walk to where the tour leaves from and plenty of parking. Beware of one way streets if navigating to the location using google maps or similar program...they don't always show you one ways!
Written 11 July 2019
Our tour ended a little later than planned - arriving back at the drop-off spot at about 6:30 pm. This was most definitely due to the high traffic volume the day after the 75th D-Day anniversary and a very rainy day. We were advised by our driver in advance that this might happen and everyone on our tour had no time constraints!

I also agree with the previous answers. Watching the first 2 episodes gives a great overview to what you will see on the tour and you can put the actual names to the places you will be at. Our guide was great and went above-and-beyond to point out differences/extras between real life events and the series.
