About the operator

- O4371EOwilliamb0 contributionsMike and Allied Victories score 11 on 10!My private nine-hour tour with Mike was easily the highlight of my three-week trip to France in November. Mike had conducted research on my father's regiment in the U.S. 4th Division before I arrived in Bayeux and was able to identify their movements. Those men landed on Utah Beach on June 6 and fought their way north to Cherbourg during the next few weeks to open a deep-water port for the Allies. Mike and I drove from village to village where my dad would have fought. All the while Mike was teaching me about the battle for Normandy, the villages we were passing through, the hedgerows, the Allied and German strategies, and so much more. This personalization brought a lump to my throat on several occasions and deepened my understanding and love for my father. A truly magnificent day. You MUST go with Mike if you're touring the invasion beaches.Written 3 January 2025
- TravelJo1300 contributionsHighly recommend Mike/Allied Victory Tours for the best Normandy tours!I was one of three proud daughters of WWII US Army ETO veterans who went on a three week adventure to see key sites of WWII, including some of the places our fathers served. Some dear friends of mine highly recommended Mike after their American D-Day tour with him, so we arranged a two-day tour with Mike in Normandy. Our time with Mike was truly a highlight of our trip. Mike is an excellent guide for all levels of knowledge-- from those who already know a lot about D-Day/WWII history to those seeking a great introduction. He is an outstanding historian who shares his expertise with respect and in a clear, interesting manner. In our two days together, we learned of individual soldiers/airmen/etc. and almost felt like we knew them or what they were feeling (Mike telling the story of the two young US medics while we were standing in the small 12th century church in Angoville-au-Plain brought tears to our eyes). We gained so much knowledge-- from the stories of individual heroes to big picture strategy, planning, troop movements, etc. and so much in between. Mike has maps, old photos to compare to current sites and other visual aids to enhance your understanding. Our Day 1 consisted of visits to Omaha and Utah American beaches, Pointe du Hoc, Angoville-au-Plain, St. Mere Eglise and Normandy American Cemetery as well as drives through various villages. Day 2 started with visits to the British and Canadian beaches then Mike drove us to the Brittany American Cemetery where one of our group members has a relative (who died a few days after D-Day) buried. On his own, Mike did research before we arrived and was able to tell her and the family information they did not know about the relative’s service and circumstances of his injuries and death. I have organized my late father’s WWII division’s reunions in the US for the last 20 years and have dealt with many tour guides in a variety of cities over that time. Mike is absolutely the best and I highly recommend him!Written 25 November 2024
- doug660 contributionsCanadian D-Day experience.A Juno Beach visit is imperative for Canadian visitors to Normandy. Mike was well-versed in Canadian military history and created vivid visual impressions of the early morning landing on Juno Beach D-Day. it was a moving tribute to our Canadian soldiers. The Canadian Cemetery at Beny- sur- Mer, under a canopy of maple leaves, was a moving tribute to our young men. Our many experiences that day were heightened by Mike's engaging storytelling. Mike is an incredible guide.Written 19 November 2024
- glhoffmann0 contributionsPersonal Normandy ExperienceThis was an amazing day! Mike is so knowledgeable about the Normandy beaches, the invasion and WW II! He has so many stories to tell about the places and people. We could have spent another eight hours with him. The time with him went very quickly and he gave us so much information to process and remember. He took us places we would never have thought to visit as he really customized the tour for us. Ending our tour at the American Cemetery was emotional as I was able to see my cousin's grave, enhance his name with the Omaha Beach sand and reflect on his and others' service. Seeing the enormity of the Cemetery makes the sacrifice the men and women gave become very real. Mike's stories about individual grave sites made it very real and personal. Our one regret is that there is so much to see and one day really doesn't give a chance to absorb all that there is to see. We would have liked more time at the Cemetery as we arrived as the American flag was being lowered and so close to closing time. We certainly will recommend Mike and Allied Victory Tours to others. Five stars does not do Mike and this tour justice - rates a high 10!Written 12 November 2024
- violetl6820 contributionsExceptional D-Day Guide!Mike was an exceptional tour guide, a true historian, and an engaging story teller. He went above and beyond to customize our family's tour and re-trace the path of a family member's Omaha Beach experience 80 years ago.Written 10 November 2024

- susanhD2797CF0 contributionsMike is the best guide ever!We spent two full days with Mike on the beaches and the cemeteries as well as other significant stops along the way. He is extremely knowledgeable and we all learned far more than we ever knew. His enthusiasm for WWII history is contagious and we were all saddened when our two days were complete. Most importantly, he is just a great guy and so comfortable to spend time in his company.Written 22 September 2024
- merrykayr20170 contributionsFantasticMike was the most fantastic guide we could have asked for! His knowledge was so extensive and he made it, not only a wonderful learning experience for us, but we had so much fun too. While it was a sobering experience, he was able to make it so enjoyable and informative, I left feeling very positive about the entire trip. He also took us to the Brittany American Cemetery the next day as well as Mont St Michel - he couldn't have been more gracious and all in all, the perfect guide!! I highly, 100% recommend him as your tour guide.Written 17 September 2024
- N6939AAlizb0 contributionsNormandy Beaches AdventureWe actually did two tours with Mike over a three day period. We did the American landing beach tour from Bayeux along with the St. Lo tour. Both were outstanding experiences for my brother, sister and our respective spouses. Mike’s enthusiasm and depth of knowledge is unsurpassed. Both days were 9+ hours and full of detail and most interesting back stories. Mike was able to answer our many questions and a fun and informative day was had by all. I would highly recommend Mike as an outstanding tour guide.Written 6 September 2024
- kevinsY2564ZQ0 contributionsAbsolutely a must do--best tour I've ever been on in 20 years and 60 countries. This was one of the best tours I have ever been on in my 20 years of travel to over 60 countries. Mike was not only extraordinarily knowledgeable and professional, but also extremely passionate about the subject and even tailored the experience to our needs (with four children under 9 years old along with the four adults). I can't recommend this tour enough. Absolutely a must do for anyone traveling to Normandy who wants to tap into the depth and breadth of knowledge of a true expert.Written 31 August 2024
- joybQ8059EE0 contributionsA Day to RememberMy family and I did an all-day tour tracing the 29th Division's progress from the beaches of Normandy to Saint-Lo. My grandfather was part of the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach, and Mike carefully researched his unit to show us points of particular interest along the way. The entire day was a delight with Mike's friendly energy and fantastic knowledge and insight. We also visited his beautiful home (and lovely 1940s-themed vintage B&B) and his wife Deborah's impressive Women of Valour WW2 Museum. This is a MUST SEE and my teenage daughter and I particularly enjoyed Deborah's carefully curated museum honoring the multiple ways women of many nationalities contributed to the Allied victory. This museum represents a lifetime of dedicated collecting and is like none other. Mike was on time, prepared, and committed to going the extra mile for us to have an extraordinary day. We highly recommend Allied Victory Tours!Written 3 August 2024
- marijno20220 contributionsAmazing Full Day TourWe had an amazing day with Dutch speaking Mike. He told so many interesting stories about WWII and D-Day, we could ask him any question and there was room to adjust the Tour according to our wishes. If you are in Normandy, you must do this tour to get the full picture of D-Day and all sites which were crucial in this operationWritten 29 July 2024
- 899barretts0 contributionsThe most impactful tourThis was the most impactful tour I’ve ever experienced! I highly recommend Mike and Allied Victory Tours! We started the day at Omaha and to say it was emotional is to say nothing at all; this combined with Mike’s expert knowledge of what went on in those first nightmarish hours was emotionally overwhelming and incredible. Mike is a member of the 29th infantry association and a student of their history, so I can’t express how important it is to book Mike as your guide if you have ancestors in the 29th or interested in the 29th infantry. In addition to WWll history in Isigny-sur-Mer Mike introduced us the locally claim to fame ice cream. I recommend the “Footsteps of the 29th” tour as you’ll travel Roman roads that 29ers used to navigate through thick hedgerow country side. Mike will be so much more than a guide, he’ll be a member of your family by the end of your travels. His wife Deborah is an absolute pleasure to be around and so knowledgeable about WWll and the women that helped win victory for Europe. Deborah had made her home into a women’s museum which is top notch. Can’t express enough if this is your “trip of lifetime,” you’ll want to book Mike and Allied Victory Tours.Written 13 July 2024
- seanmD6585YZ0 contributionsA Truly Immersive Storytelling Experience! We were a family of 14 traveling to Normandy for the first time. We booked Allied Victory Tours based on the reviews and could not have been happier with the decision! Mike has an incredible depth of knowledge and detail, and helps paint a picture of the events of D-Day with some truly unique stories about individual heroes who you may not have heard about. Because it was a private tour, he took us to several small villages between Saint Mere Eglise and the American landing beaches. These villages had small chapels and other memorials for soldiers who haven’t shown up in the history books, but are very much remembered by the locals there. He was also quite keen about what he “didn’t” show us, i.e. landmarks on Point du Hoc that are well known, but surprisingly not very relevant to the actual history. It was a wonderful way to immerse ourselves in the history of D-Day. I highly recommend Mike and Allied Victory Tours!Written 5 July 2024

Mike was personable and full of knowledge about WWII. He did a great job of mixing facts and figures with people and heroes of the war...holding the interest of everyone in our group. His van was clean and he even wore a small mic while driving allowing the back row to hear as well as the front. Amongst our group of 8 (ages ranging 16-73) our tour with Mike was unanimously our favorite day in a two week vacation in France. I highly recommend taking this tour!!!

Mike took us on a full-day guided tour of WWII sites during our latest trip to Normandy. We had visited the area twice before, but this was our first time with a guide. It was a wonderful experience! Mike was the perfect person to introduce us to the details of each area and to the personal stories of those who fought there. He even tweaked our itinerary based on the sites we had already visited and included a more detailed look at Easy Company's path - of particular interest to us because of Band of Brothers. Mike's friendly demeanour, extensive knowledge of, and passion for history made the full-day tour both educational and entertaining. His van was very comfortable for our group of four and there was easily room for more. He wore a microphone when he talked in the van so that we could all hear him clearly. He answered all of our questions and gave us recommendations of the best museums to visit and places to tour that we did not get to do on our tour with him. We are so happy we booked with him! Book with him now for your trip to Normandy, you will not be dissapointed! Thank you, Mike!

Allied Victory Tours and tour guide/owner Mike provided a wonderful, informative full day American D-Day tour. From the beginning I found the website engaging with all the information needed to plan accordingly. Communication with Mike was prompt. My group of five were met at the train station by Mike who went over the itinerary and allowed time to get a bite and freshen up. For the remainder of the day Mike drove us around the invasion sites and told us many facinating historical stories about the planning for D-Day, the invasion and post D-Day events. Mike knowledgeable answered our questions. Whether you plan to spend a day or more having a guide like Mike made the visit so much more interesting and enriching.

How does Mike/Allied Victory Tours have all excellent reviews for his tours? I think I can explain it in simple terms.
He listens: My boys and I didn't have a set agenda we wanted to follow. Mike asked a few questions up front about our interests and he listened. With a bit of creative license, he came up with a flexible plan that was perfect for our pace and interests.
Knowledge of History and How to Present it: Mike knows his history. He also knows how to present it in a manner that keeps you interested, engaged and free to ask questions. No one wants a rambling on robot as a tour guide. Mike is not a robot.
Skipped the Museums: in my opinion, museum stops on a guided tour is time wasted. A museum stop is a self paced activity and Mike knows this. He could have easily pointed us to a museum at some of our stops and had an hour or more break. That wasn't the case, We were on the road and going to sites. At the end, at our request, he recommended museums for us to visit on our free day.
Important details: Pre arrival communication was perfect. He is a safe driver. Nice clean van. Bottled water provided as needed. Uses an audio headset in the van so that everyone can hear what he is saying. He is a good story teller and has a good sense of humor.
It is crystal clear that he enjoys what he is doing and enjoys sharing the history of WWII and in particular the history of D-Day. I highly recommend Mike and Allied Victory Tours.

I had a great tour with Mike in Normandy. I was tracing the path of my Uncle's Battalion (HQ Company, 1st Battalion, 134th Regiment, 35th Division). Mike was an excellent guide, and really full of passion and knowledge of Battle of Normandy and the D-Day landings. With Mike's help I was able to pinpoint areas that my Uncle's unit fought and he brought to life in particular how the fighting took place with in the hedgerow countryside. In addition to Mike's knowledge of the D-Day landing sites, Mike is also well suited to guide around St. Lo area as he and his wife also run a B&B nearby (Pont de la Pierre - where there is a memorial to the 115th Regiment, 29th Division).

Highly recommend Allied Victory Tours! Mike picked my intergenerational group up from our lodge in a remote village in his comfortable, spacious van right on time. We spent the whole day with him and we all enjoyed every minute. What I appreciated was his ability to provide a great, solid overview of the history at each stop that everyone could understand and then he was happy to delve into more details and anecdotes depending on our questions. He also knows when to let the group chill out and admire the countryside during the drives vs when to talk. We were traveling with my two year old and Mike was very patient and accommodating with her, thankfully :). You can't get this kind of an experience no matter how many museums you visit, so if you can, see if you can spend a day with Mike! Memorable, meaningful, educational, and fun experience guaranteed!

From start to finish, Mike was simply wonderful! We visited Normandy with our three boys ages 9, 11, and 14 to learn more about D-Day and World War II. Mike told stories that kept the children and the adults enthralled for over 6 hours. He patiently answered all questions -- and posed a bunch of his own. The tour was thoughtfully organized with stops at the beach, at German bunkers with original guns, and the American cemetery. The tour was solemn and inspiring. We would recommend Mike for people of all ages.

Thank you Mike! We had a fabulous 2 day tour.
Your historical knowledge combined with your lighthearted fun demeanor really made our trip incredibly interesting and easy. We were so engaged and having a terrific time, we had no idea the day had flown by so quickly. You timeliness and top notch transportation made the traveling days run smoothly and comfortably.
When planning our trip originally we were unsure of where to stay and which D-Day sites to see and your recommendations were perfect. Your flexibility sense of adventure was terrific when we went off the tour a bit and visited another museum.
Thank you again for sharing so much about history and your personal passions with us. We can't wait to return with the children.

We spent a full day with Mike exploring the history and sites of WWII starting with the German Cemetery (at my request) and finishing at the American Cemetery with many stops in between including Utah and Omaha beach and some fascinating off the beaten path spots as well.
Mike is a walking encyclopedia of WWII information and facts and superb story teller bringing the events to life as we roamed the countryside, poked into churches and stood on the landing beaches. We could listen to his soothing radio quality voice for hours. His enthusiasm for the topics was infectious and it was clear that he relishes sharing his passion with his guests. There wasn’t a question he couldn’t answer or a topic where he wasn’t fluent.
He’s a fluent English speaker so there were absolutely no issues with communication. His large, room van can take 8 although we were just a party of two.
By the end of the day we had a much clearer idea of the events of D-day, where things went according to plan and where Hollywood movies have embellished things to suit their needs.
Mike is an absolute must for your tour, but don’t wait, he books out months ahead-and now I understand why.

Mike provided us a private guided half-day tour, picking us up at the chateaux we were staying in (at the cost of a taxi), showing us three major sites and answering our questions about D-Day. He was fun, extremely knowledgeable, and able to shift his focus to the things that interested us. I'm only sorry we weren't able to do a full-day tour!

i googled the distance from Cherbourg to Bayeur, it is about an 1 hour and 10 mins by car, 60 miles. Bayeur to Omaha Beach is about 20 mins by car. whoever you select as a guide ask them what you should do and where you should meet. Our guide picked us up at rental house in Arromanches next to Omaha beach and returned us there. We visited the town (?) where the paratroopers got hung up on the church, Utah Beach, Omaha beach and the US cemetery. i would watch the movie "the longest day" before taking this tour in hindsight. Good luck, a must for every American!!!!!!!!!
