Henry was a fabulous tour guide, full of all kinds of information. Really enjoyed the tour. Highly recommend when visiting Heidelberg! Wine tasting at the end was icing on the cake…

We had a great time on the tour, and learned a lot about the history of Old Town. The wine tasting was even more fun. Book this tour with Henry. You will be glad you did.

Henry was very knowledgeable and fun! We learned about the area and its history. Unfortunately, we were not able to do the wine tasting at the castle- but he took us to a different bar to taste wine instead. Overall a great day! Would recommend!

This walking tour was absolutely delightful. Henry tailored his speaking points pertaining to various parts of Heidelberg to my husband’s and my questions and interests, and allowed for plenty of good conversation along the way. As I am from the contiguous US, and had never been to Heidelberg, I had a lot to learn. Not only was the historical information interesting and educational, the local tips and insights were also much appreciated. Finishing the tour at an eatery with local wines really enhanced the experience by adding an even more familiar and welcoming atmosphere. We would certainly recommend this tour to anyone spending time in Heidelberg.

Thanks very much for your kind review - it was fun to meet you both and introduce you to some of the wonders of german wine. It‘s always a pleasure for me to have ‚guests‘ from the USA and even more so now that i know what the contiguous US means! Wishing you both all the best. Warm regards, Henry.

I purchased our tour based on the reviews I read here. Henry was having an off day, he was late, told us little history of market square where the tour started. We walked to the funicular, with very little 'walking tour history' of Heidelberg. When we arrived we were unaware of the extra cost of €8 each to ride up to the castle. During this whole time there has not been an ongoing talk about the history of the city. We were consistently only asked, "Do you have any questions?" For a $108 each We expected a tour guide to provide a consistent narrative of Heidelberg history, especially since he lives there.
He was thoughtful and bought me a chocolate bar for my birthday at the castle wine tasting. :)
It was unfortunate that he couldn't remember my name and kept calling by the other persons name in our party of two.
I would not reccomend paying for this tour. In his words "the Free walking tours are good, during Corona." you just tip €10 after them.
That would have been good to know before hand!!! Also, we didn't go to the Old Bridge as stated in the guide. He just said he had to go pick up his daughter. Peace to you Henry.

Hello Teresa & Dorothy, Thankyou for taking the time to write a review & i ‘hear’all of your valid comments However please allow me to respond to some of your observations; - Heidelberg has over 900 years of history, which i cannot condense into a 2.5hrs tour which also needs to be half comprised of a wine tasting. Therefore my policy is to focus on the area’s of history my clients express a particular interest in. In your case, for example, you seemed keen to know more about Jews in german history and i remember giving you my own comprehensive response to this multifaceted subject. Of course i’m sorry if your need for more history was not met but i find it better to talk about what interests people rather than impart superfluous information. - in the write up of the tour it does state very clearly under,’Exclusions’ - the funicular railway & entry into the Castle. (which is an €8 p/p combination ticket). Apologies if u missed this information. - i recall talking quite a lot on your tour so your comment about there being ‘no ongoing talk of the history of the city’ is puzzling & possibly relates to my point above. Again sorry if your need for more history was not met. - it is true that i did not always remember your name & i’m sorry for that. Many tours, many customers, many names but generally i consider myself good at remembering names. - there are indeed cheaper free walking tours of Heidelberg but i believe my tours offer a more personal, richer & deeper experience of this beautiful city. - yes, it was indeed your birthday and i did buy you some fine German chocolate. I’m glad you enjoyed it. - we did not stand directly on the Old Bridge but we did get a wonderful view of it from the Castle balcony. The stated itinerary tends to provide more of an overview than step by step rundown of the tour. I have learnt that an element of spontaneity adds a sense of welcome ‘freshness’ to a tour. It was, for me, a pleasure to show you around Heidelberg & i’d be happy to welcome you again. Yours sincerely, Henry.

Henry, it’s safe to say if I’m ever back in Heidelberg I will let you know! I had a wonderful time learning history and just talking about life. Thank you for being kind and helpful and a lot of fun to be around. Taking your tour was much more enjoyable than exploring a new city alone. Until next time! Zum Wohl!

Dear Trevor, Thanks for your review & helping me to reach 100 TripAdvisor Reviews - fitting that it should be with a friendly, warm & enthusiastic American - as your countrymen have consistently been such wonderful & enjoyable customers & friends over the last 7 years. George Washington started something very awesome all those years ago ( plus his Mt.Vernon estate!). Always happy to show the 'New World' what's happening in the 'Old World'. Wishing you and Ashley all the very best for a happy & adventuresome future. With warm regards, Henry.

Even if Henry hadn't shown me the special places we visited, it was a wonderful afternoon, learning about Heidelberg from him, delving into his own history and his connections with the city enriched by his classic education. He answered it all, he listened and paid attention, a very personal tour. Visiting the Schloss and seeing it through his eyes was an in depth experience I doubt could be replicated with another guide. The student bar in the Old Town was truly an insider place with good food and fine German wine.

Dear Connie, Thankyou very much for your highly complimentary review. It was indeed a pleasure to meet you, guide you around beautiful Heidelberg and end with some fine local wine in the cost student bar. I enjoyed your excellent company and all the useful tips and insightful feedback you gave me. I wish you and John all the best back in Fort Wayne & hope we might enjoy some further trips around this lovely area one day. Warmly yours, Henry. Ps; thanks also for using my services again in choosing to let me drive you both to Frankfurt Airport. A much easier option than the bus, I feel.

If you want to explore Germany like a local, you must book a tour with Henry. I am so happy I stumbled upon his business when searching for an authentic/non-touristy, educational experience (that involved wine!) during our recent weeklong stay in the Mannheim area. Both me and my fiancé (who used to live in Germany) are seasoned travelers and were very impressed with Henry’s tour — from his congenial personality to his flexible and conversational guiding style. We felt like we were hanging with a friend for the day, while learning a lot at the same time. Thank you for wonderful memories, Henry!

Dear Gina, Thanks a lot for your great review. Was a lot of fun to meet you both and show you around Heidelberg and try some excellent German wines. I hope you have a better idea of the wines of this region now and how they are well worth knowing about. I hope we meet again one day. Warm regards, Henry.
