About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- GmarcM0 contributionsExtraordinary experienceOur Tour guide Jacqueline was amazing. Very knowledgeable and guided us well throughout the trip. Very please to have her abroad on both our tours,Written 6 February 2025
- rubenjE7799WP0 contributionsHaina and Smiley great service. The tour was great Haina and Smiley were great on particular Haina who was very helpful. The only problem is that the tour ad does not give you approximate times of arrival to the castles being Linderhof and Neuschwanstein, I had previously purchased admission tickets to both castles and it was quiet an adventure to change times but thankfully it was resolve and all good at the end. It would help if the operator gives estimate times of arrival to the castles that way if you buy tickets in advance you don’t go through the same problem I did or buy the tickets on the bus.Written 1 February 2025

- ddev540 contributionsTake this tour with Deyse! The premium tour to Neuschwannstein was better than we had hoped! We did this with our adult children and 6 year old grandson. Our tour guide, Deyse, was great! She gave us SO much information, prepared us well for our independent time and made this tour much better than if we had done it all on our own. The driver did a great job making sure we always had refreshments and, of course, got us to and from Neuschwannstein safely. We have done many tours and this was one of the nicest, most comfortable tour busses we have been on and having the refreshment bar was an added perk!Written 1 January 2025

- mommaguinn0 contributionsAn Experience of a Lifetime! What a wonderful experience! Being able to have Viator provide a private coach transfer and to buy our tour tickets on the bus was such a stress reliever. We were so happy with both castle tours, and especially loved the Neuschwanstien Castle. As a bonus, Christine, our tour guide, gave a great history lesson explaining what we were about to see. We always use Viator to plan our excursions and are never disappointed. Be sure to read the fine print of your reservation - some people didn’t realize the tour tix were not included and did not have the Euros to buy them. You must have Euros for these, as other currencies and cards are not accepted! Be sure to bring food snacks, as the bus rides are 1 - 2 hours and they only have drinks available for purchase.Written 21 December 2024
- LoveTravel4430810 contributionsWonderful day tour!We had a fantastic time on our tour with Elisabeth. It was such a fun day learning the history of castles and the local history as well. Would highly recommend the tour. Elisabeth was a fantastic guide. Extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating. The drive alone out there was so peaceful and scenic. Even being extremely jet lagged we had a blast!Written 21 December 2024
- Itchyfeet020 contributionsLaid back Salzburg experience. Our tour started with a relaxing bus ride from central Munich to Salzburg, with informative commentary along the way. Upon arrival in Salzburg, our guide took us on a guided walk around town, pointing out key sights. We were then given free time to explore to our heart's content. Our day ended with another relaxing bus ride back to Munich. Out tour guide (Melanie) and driver (Robert) were professional, helpful and accommodating; nothing was too much trouble for them.Written 20 December 2024

Early start to get on the coach for this trip and after arriving first when allowed to board coach others were asked by guide to board before us.
The journey to castle was good and not too long. The guide taking us around the castle rushed us from area to area to keep in front of group 2 following us. Not given enough time to enjoy each area fully for price of 10 euros charged.
Rothenburg arrived next and our coach guide took us all to show us things to do to see and where to have lunch at. We had lunch there and found our food to be both very tasty plentiful and not expensive for what we ordered.
Rothenburg we found very pretty and we very much liked the Christmas museum and shop, along with our walk around the city walls taking many photos.
Returning was a 3 hour journey back to Munich before we left the coach.
Enjoyable day apart from castle rush which lost it one star we felt

This is an amazing magical place worth visiting. When you get there, I would recommend the first thing you do is to walk the entire city wall to get your bearings of the city, which is not very big, and even though you may think 3 hours of being there is not long enough, as long as you are well organised you will be able to see everything you need to see in this time, I included the Christmas market, visiting the inside of the 3 main churches as well as the museum, viewing the gates of the city and I also managed to do a little bit of shopping as well. I would highly recommend this tour.

The excursion was good. But it is sold as adapted for pubic in Spanish and that is not the case. The guide speaks only English and at points of interest the explanations are in English. The audiology is poor and only for the bus. At Hamburg Castle they gave us a sheet of paper. The guide was a very prepared person but needed a voice amplifier. With the cost of the excursion they could provide it.
Of course, if they offer an excursion in Spanish, at least provide a bilingual guide.

The tour was okay, average at best. Our tour guide had some ideas about things he needed to show us in Rothenburg that were impossible due to the sheer size of the group. He wanted us all to walk with him through the town as a huge group and try to listen to what he had to say, then he tried to herd us all through some random small restaurant to see some goblet that has historical significance, but the logistics of this were ridiculous. We finally outright asked him when we had to be back to the bus and left the group, and had many people follow our lead who were also fed-up. He needs to give people an overview out in the parking lot including time and location to return to, and let us go free. He also wanted all 70+ of us to eat at this certain place. This all made zero sense. We only got maybe 2 hours to walk around the town, but it was a whole-day drive back and forth. Cut out the castle stop maybe? Also, when we got back to the bus, it was hot as fire inside because the driver has not turned on the bus and let it cool down, so very uncomfortable start to the trip back. The town was okay, but we wouldn't do this tour again.

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent tour experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you encountered and appreciate your detailed comments, which help us improve our services.
We are sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. Your feedback regarding the challenges posed by the large group size and the logistical difficulties during the tour in Rothenburg is very valuable. We understand that navigating through the town and trying to follow the guide in such a large group can be frustrating. We will review our tour procedures to ensure that future tours are better organized and more enjoyable for all participants.
We acknowledge your suggestion about providing an overview at the parking lot and allowing more free time for individual exploration. This is a great idea, and we will consider incorporating it into our tour plans to enhance the overall experience.
We also apologize for the discomfort caused by the hot bus on the return trip. Our drivers are instructed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the bus, and we will address this issue with our team to prevent it from happening again.
Regarding the itinerary, we will re-evaluate the inclusion of certain stops to ensure that our tours offer a balanced and enjoyable experience without unnecessary time constraints.
Thank you again for bringing these issues to our attention. We hope you will consider giving us another chance to provide you with a more pleasant and well-organized tour in the future.

The trip takes you to 2 spots on the Romantic road, one in which you tour a castle/fortress in Harburg and a 3-hour stint in the remarkable Rothenburg. The guide was funny and able to corral the full tour to be prompt and on time, hastening everyone's experience. There was an accident on the autobahn that impeded traffic by 1/2 hour but the guide kept us all amused.

The bus driver was the rudest grumpiest person, not interested in his passengers at all and got quite annoyed if anyone tried to talk to him. He only wanted to get off as quick as possible so he could smoke. I went on Wednesday 29th, so you know who I am referring to. The bus was cramped and overly warm, and despite numerous request from different passengers, it was not addressed. A ‘trainee’ came along who took prime position upstairs front row, why I don’t know because he either slept,or watched his phone with his AirPods in that were so loud we could hear it!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We sincerely apologize for the unpleasant experience you had on your recent bus trip on Wednesday, the 29th.
We are deeply sorry to hear about the behavior of the bus driver. Rudeness and a lack of interest in our passengers are completely unacceptable and do not align with the high standards of service we strive to provide. We will address this issue with the driver in question to ensure that such behavior is not repeated in the future.
We also regret that the bus was cramped and overly warm, and that your requests for adjustments were not heeded. Comfort is a top priority for us, and we will review our procedures to ensure that temperature and seating arrangements are better managed in the future.
The presence and behavior of the trainee you mentioned are also concerning. Trainees are expected to learn and assist, not to occupy prime seating or cause disturbances. We will ensure that our training programs emphasize proper conduct and the importance of providing a positive experience for all passengers.
We appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention and will take immediate steps to address them. We value your feedback and hope you will give us another opportunity to provide you with a more pleasant and comfortable travel experience in the future.

A long way from Munich to visit a town that’s almost completely closed. The Christmas museum, one of the main highlights was closed. 95% or restaurants/shops were closed. Never do this tour on a Sunday in January. The town is beautiful but without most things open it’s not good value for money. Go elsewhere or go another day. I wish I’d caught the train during the week. I had checked opening hours of the museum which were clearly wrong. I think Rothenburg would be a great place to visit in summer or prior to Christmas but in January give it a miss. Also, throughout the town they insist you pay cash, not just in small establishments but in Museums and full service restaurants. ATM charges large surcharge.
Our guide didn’t know what was open or closed. Very confusing! Really disappointed as the Christmas Museum was my main reason for going.

Thank you very much for your feedback and very sorry that your experience was negative. It is indeed German legal regulation that shops are closed Sundays. Nevertheless, the town of Rothenburg is a beautiful medieval town with worthwile spots and great views of the valley, the town itself from the city wall or simply stroll around. Especially in small remote towns, card payments might not be accepted as in cities. We once again thank you for your feedback and hope to welcome you back.

After leaving Munich it is a 1.5hr coach trip through the beautiful Bavarian countryside to the medieval Harburg Castle, which offers fantastic views over the forests, fields and town below.
Following a tour of the castle, the coach continued on to the walled town of Rothenburg. While mainly this is a tourist destination, this again offers beautiful views over the Tauber River and valley, especially from the castle gardens at the opposite end of the town from the coach park.
The town also has two Teddy Bear 🧸 shops for souvenir hunters or for those who just like cute little (and not so little) bears.
There are lots of museums, cafes and restaurants to spend your time, although when I went it was 33°, so the bars and ice-cream parlors may be preferable.
Lastly, you can walk around the walls of the city, accessed by several wooden staircases, which also offer Panoramic views of the city.
I visited on 20/08, when the tour guide was MONIKA. She was also the tour guide on the Salzburg trip, and is very helpful and incredibly knowledgeable on both the town and the surrounding Bavarian, Swabian and Franconian areas. Thank you to our jovial bus driver as well (although apologies as I cannot remember his name).

Our trip was canceled due to weather. I understand, if the bus driver does not want to be on the road, I don't either. We arrived at the noted time and place to begin our tour and were notified at that time (no email or notice before) that the tour was canceled due to weather. Totally understand. We were offered a refund or another tour. Due to our schedule, we chose the refund. We emailed, as directed, requesting a refund. We heard nothing. We have emailed 2 additional times requesting a refund and again, have heard nothing. No response, no refund.

Places we visited on this tour:
Harburg Castle:
My first castle, and I was very impressed. The facade definitely hid some beautiful rooms within. We had a guided tour and I loved our guide, she had a real passion for the preservation and the history of such a well kept historic site. She also had a great sense of humor. I would definitely put this on a list of must see’s visiting Germany. We did not tour the town, but it looked absolutely beautiful from the castle.
Rothenburg:
Traveled here on a Romantic Road tour and though it consisted of mostly driving, it was completely worth it to see this intact German walled city. It’s absolutely magical. It’s real and although it seems Walt Disney may have tried to replicate this in the United States, it’s a sad imitation. The cobble stone streets, the church bells, the Dutch style rooftops the colorful buildings and the charming shops are an absolute national treasure! We travel in late February and the streets were vacant and some shops closed but we felt like we had it all to ourselves!
Absolute must on any tour of Germany!!!
Review of Tour company booked through Trip Advisor:
Booked a trip on the Romantic Road Tour, visited Harburg Castle and Rothenburg. This was our only excursion outside of Munich and it was quite tiring, most of the trip was in the motor coach. Roundtrip I think we were gone 11 hours and only 4.5 were actually us touring something. Traveling during non-peak season has its perks. I think there were only 18 ppl on this trip. The bus doesn’t stop and though they didn’t make any announcements or anything the travel time between each place was extensive and there were no bio breaks. There was a bathroom on board but it remained locked until a staff member used it. It was never spoken about nor offered as an option for the tour group.
Our Guide Marcus was very clear and knowledgeable, he even brought along his dog Herschel.
Though I think another stop should be added, it may be impossible for the bus to stop, you travel through rural Germany. The sightseeing was magnificent and I highly recommend this tour.

Are things open on these cities on Sundays? Like souvenier shops, museums and restaurants? I ask because in Germany everything is usually closed on Sundays.
Written 29 April 2023
Hi there! We weren't there on a Sunday, but it seems to be a very touristy town and I feel like places should be open. Maybe find the city on Google Maps, zoom in and find restaurants. When you click on the restaurant, it will show the opening hours. I hope that helps! :)

How is the weather in February?
Are the tours back on as well?
Written 13 February 2020
It’s all day you’ll be back in Munich around dinner time depending on traffic.
Written 20 January 2020
Yes, we had a bathroom and as one of the other travelers noted, there is also water and soft drinks. Also, if it starts raining hard, they sell ponchos for only 3 Euros. Don't give it a second thought.
Written 9 September 2019
Hi, Ive noticed there is no Rothenburg tour during January? Is this correct?
Written 6 August 2019
I believe the tour only goes through October. I would assume after that they don't do the tour because of weather. The drive is long and everything is outside so bad weather would make this a harder tour to do in a day.
