Dream-Like Experience!
Aug 2020
Had a really great time exploring the Harburg Castle and Rothenburg. Dream like experience in quaint medieval locations. Rothenburg was a picturesque town with surprisingly good Bavarian cuisine. Good place for spending time with the family in a fort that is a throwback to the 16th century. Located in a wine region. If a more relaxed pace is desired, you may skip the return bus (otherwise there is only about 3 hours provided) and stay over in the town. Train station is a short walk from the town. Special thanks to our guide Monika for providing useful travel tips and insights about the trip and region in general.

Not efficient
Awful organisation. The trip takes you to the Harburg castle and Rothenburg, both places that are really worth to visit.

However, we were given less than 3 hours to stay in Rothenburg. Too small time to check the town specially if having lunch is needed.

The departure time to Munchen was at 15.30, and we arrived at 12.40. With this short given time, it is not possible to check without not being in a hurry the shops, museums, churches, and of course, the Christmas market.

The guide then informed that it is better to come back taking advantage of the sunlight still left (excuse me?). She mentioned: "if you wish to stay longer, there is the option to come back to Munchen by train, but it is not worth as it takes a longer time, more than 4 hours".

This means that they already know there is small time, but trying to find excuses. Nonsense.

They should have let us more time. Tourists do not know when there will be another chance to visit this place. Rothenburg is a fairytale town and, at lest, it would have been nice to see it after the sunset. Why is it so important to be back in Munchen at 18.30?

Dear visitor, I hardly recommend you to choose another option for Rothenburg as here you will waste your money as I did.

Beautiful Rothenburg
Dec 2018
Opened a new (old) world to us. We were amazed. We were fortunate to be in Rothenburg for the Christmas Market, our first ever. We are from South Africa, and this was one of the highlights of our holiday.

We flew into munich stayed two days. I didn’t find it much different than any other metropolitan city.
Rothenburg was a highlight of the two week travel we did. We took the trains from country to country, bus subway or taxi but our feet were are best mode of transportation. Pack light you will only need 1/2 of what you want to take. We never checked a bag.
Highly recommend this beautiful place full of history.

This was a wonderful day trip
Jul 2019
The trip to Rothenberg is a great way to see this town for a short time. Never having been to Germany before it is perfect for first time international travelers for it take a lot of worries out of traveling. I do agree that Harburg Castle was cool to see, but it takes away for what would be better used time in Rothenburg. For someone who waited a life time to make this trip I was happy I did Harburg. Rothenburg has so much to offer that 3 hrs does not feel like enough time but heck a whole day would not be enough! I loved my day trip!!!! Mikia was a Awesome Guide.

Not Enough Time
Oct 2019 • Friends
Not enough time in Rothenburg. I would have preferred to skip Harburg Castle. It's cool but 3 hours in Rothenburg is not enough. By the time you factor in off loading/loading bus and walk to town/back you have a little more than two hours. Not enough time for a lunch, sightseeing and shopping.

Was There On Tour
Aug 2019
We were there on a Tauck Tour, not the specific tour mentioned here. All in all, it is a quaint little town, preserved for tourists. Taking a tour opens up a lot of what one needs to know to enjoy this town. It seems as though there is a lot of local history that could be uncovered with a good tour guide. We had a fair amount of free time, after the guided tour that we used to explore. Since it is not a big area, it was fairly easy to cover. We ventured into the Judenstrasse ( not covered in our tour) and it was very interesting for us. You may want to make sure your tour includes at least a walk through the area since it helps explain the historical social dynamics.
