About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- kathiesohr0 contributionsNice, but boringWell this was okay, but not very exciting. You see most of the highlights driving by, you get many facts and informations, but lively is something else. All presented technical, in a very boring way. Staff was nice and friendly- french and english headphone channel were at least a bit more interesting.Written 15 January 2019
- RoadTripKrikkit0 contributionsDull but somewhat worthwhileThe best I can say is that for a short amount of time and a small amount of money you get a good outline of sights to see after the tour is over. You wont see or learn anything interesting on the tour itself.Written 5 September 2018
- Bernice D0 contributionsWe so looked forward to seeing this place, but sadly weather decided otherwisecruising along the Rhine with APT we wished we had decided on a later in the year city tour, everything was covered in snow, and many of the places to visit were closed until spring, we travelled in March! So all I have to offer is beautiful scenery covered in snow and the tops of buildings, most of the roofs were covered in snow. Some ventured out on a tour, but we stayed in the warmth in the Lounge of the ship and enjoyed an amazing chat on learning a few German words by three lovely Barvarian women, who also brought along a selection of Schnapps for us to try. Apparently this drink is an alexior for revelling, from babies teething to keeping warm and feeling a little fuzzy, as I did after sampling each strength from strongest to lightest. It was a great on board lecture, but next time, will have to travel later in the season and get off the ship to enjoy what Wurzurg has to offer. But I do know a great deal more about Schnapps than I did!Written 2 September 2018
- Life-is-an-Adventure0 contributionsGreat OverviewAlthough having visited Wurzberg frequently before I still found this tour of interest. It has audio in various languages and is wuite comfortable - I appreciated the clear roof, which permited me to see the towers above while protecting me from the rain.Written 6 September 2017
- tank10500 contributionsNeat way to see the cityThis was a neat way to see the sights of Wurzburg. The only issue I had as we had to walk from the main train station, then to the information center at Market Square then onto the Residenz to get on the city tour by train. The tours are in English and German. Our English tour was the last car of the train but that was great, everything was explained fully. One good feature of the tour is that it finishes at the Residenz and then you can walk in and tour the Residenz. The tour is 40 minutes and shows you all of the spots you may want to see when you walk the town.Written 4 June 2017
- Lisa S0 contributionsGood to ride prior to walkingWe actually did this in reverse order mainly due to timing of wanting to complete tours before places closed. I still enjoyed the bumpy ride! Our driver did not speak English, however he did have a German to English translation app on his phone. Asking him if the tour was in English took quite awhile to get the correct answer! Every car has a unit that allows you to select your language hence the division of people on any given car. We were lucky enough to be alone in our car so we could talk about what we were seeing. We also parked in the Residenz parking lot all day while we walked the city.Written 30 November 2016
- Sofie N0 contributionsPretty niceIt was an informative tour. Just 40 minutes. It gives you a nice layout of the old town and the history of Würzburg. I enjoyed it. Plus your ticket gets you a free coffee at a great restaurant called Schönborn where you can have a nice breakfast, lunch, or dinner.Written 24 August 2016
- PaulExpat0 contributionsGlad we found the train tourWe were glad to find the tour train, which departs from the residence. It gave a nice history of Wurzburg in English in the last car. At 40 minutes it was a good length to get our initial bearings in this very walkable city. I kept hoping it would cross the river and climb us up to the fortress to have a look there - but it did not. And as others mentioned, the ride is a bit bumpy (my pedometer thought we were walking, due to the oscillations ;).Written 11 March 2016
- Bradfordgull0 contributionsIt shows you the main partsAs has previously been said this is quite a difficult tour to review. The tour does show you the main part of the city and really I used this as an opportunity to see places that looked interesting and then walked back for a better look later and to take photos. The train is certainly very bumpy and juddering. It's difficult to take photos because the streets are narrow and also because of the windows on the train. It may be different in the summer when the weather is hotter and possibly the windows are open There were three carriages. Two German speaking and one English, which was a good idea. There was not a lot of leg room however and a little uncomfortable as I am very tall. It can get busy so I advise that if you are going to take the tour, get there early. The train we were going to take was full. I think it's a good introduction to the city which we help you decide what you would like to see in more detail. Nothing special but ok and reasonably priced.Written 23 January 2016
- travellerIndian0 contributionsRather a bumpy shuddering ride.As we had reached Wurzburg around 4 in the evening, this was the only activity we could do, considering that the last tour was at 5 pm. It is made up of three coaches pulled by a prime mover shaped in the shape of a train engine. The tickets (7 or 8 Euros per person) have to be bought from the driver. The commentary is in German language by a public speaker system and in English in the third coach, We were only two persons in the third coach. The first coach was full of passengers who were listening to the German commentary. Second coach was empty. As we were in the third coach, hence we were treated to the maximum jolts, but the quality of commentary was excellent with a final word being reserved for the famed Franconian wine, which we were exhorted to treat ourselves to, before leaving the city. The city tour was of a little over 30 minutes duration which took us all around the old city center covering almost the entire gamut of buildings (not the Fortress) like Alte Mainbruecke, Haus zum Falken, The Residenz (from where the tour starts), St. Killian cathedral, Dom and all the rest. But, somehow we were pretty dissatisfied, as it was just a one ride which did not stop at any place, with a pretty bumpy, shuddering ride which had us clinging on to our seats as the speed was quite fast.Written 20 September 2015
- Bud1010 contributionsDifficult to reviewdue to the very narrow streets in this old town. Photo ops are not really possible. Does not make this city tour bad, but it does need to be mentioned. My biggest disappointment was the narration. It is given in both German (of course) and English. However, the German is very loud and causes those who wish to hear it in English are at a disadvantage. The rider gets a good overview.Written 27 June 2015

The Bimmelbahn tour was a nice introduction to the city and helped us get our bearings. The driver was friendly. Would have liked a little more history of the city in the talk, however it was well priced and only 40 mins, so I would recommend it as a starting point for a stay in Wurzburg

We were unlucky, but November and rain go together in Central Europe. The tour offered a weather-protected, condensed and very informative opportunity to determine potential destinations for our personal city tour (especially location and distance from each other). This helped us a lot later on when we had to put up with the weather.

The City Train is a good overview of the city. The Train caters for numerous languages by providing head phones and a channel that is on the back of the seat in front of you. It travels on the roads at a slow speed, and part of the traffic. It has about four carriages, which are heated in the cold weather. The Train takes you through the main streets, and the recorder commentary gives details of sights as you pass by. Then later the train travels alongside the river giving details of points of interest. It is especially good for those people who are limited in their mobility, as the trip takes about one hour.

Bimmelbahn was very loud and jerked just like driving a tractor, the seats and the aisles were very narrow, quite uncomfortable to sit on, these seats are only suitable for children. There were many construction sites during the journey. You can't really see any of the sights except streets. 9 euros per adult for about 40 minutes, this is really expensive for such an uncomfortable journey.

Dear guest,
thank you for your feedback.
We are very diappointed that we only got 1 star for our tour.
Our road train is a standard train that is used for sightseeing tours all over Europe. Therefore seats and aisles are standard size too. For a tour of 40 minutes, this should be sufficient.
Road constructions along the tour are not our responsability, but nevertheless, there are many sights that can be seen from the train.
Also the price of 9 euros per adult is not very high compared to other cities.
Best regards, your CityTour team

We became aware of the little train when we were strolling through Würzburg and the reviews on the internet were pretty good.
Basically, the tour wasn't bad. Compared to all the other tours we've ever done anywhere, it didn't fare well.
You can only ride if you've reserved in advance, as the train obviously has limited capacity. That's not a bad thing. At the train station, however, it's very stressful, as guests with and without tickets mix and a bit of chaos ensues. The employees themselves seemed to be unnerved by this.
The order in which seats are allocated is based on the order in which they are reserved. That's only fair. However, I had to struggle a lot with my travel sickness in the back car, as it felt like you were riding through the streets on a rollercoaster.
The explanations of the sights are recorded announcements, with sometimes long pauses in which you stand or ride and hear nothing. The tour is over after just under three quarters of an hour.
For a short trip and with children, it's certainly a very nice experience. As I said, I don't think the price-performance ratio is right. There could be a personal speaker who can tell you something about the city in a charming way. And maybe they should have 2 trains instead of one. There seemed to be enough passengers.
Unfortunately, only 2 out of 5 points, because I think €10 would be better spent on a good travel guide with even more information and nice pictures, which I couldn't take at the end and I'm going to walk through the city again anyway.

Booked two seats in advance and arrived half an hour early as requested. When booking online, it says that you can choose your seat freely. When we arrived, we were told to go to the last row. That's where the wheel arches are, so you can hardly get your legs under. When we wanted to go to another row on a completely empty train, we were told that we weren't allowed to. The train was fully booked and we should be lucky to get a seat at all. We just shouldn't go on the train.
If you're selling free seating, you have to have it. It's an impertinence to then come up with the idea that it's a kindness that we're allowed to go on the train at all. We paid the same amount of money for it and even booked it three months in advance because it was a gift.
People who treat customers like that don't deserve customers

This is a good overview of the town. I speak German, so I went in the German carriage. It was a bit confusing to work out where to go for other languages. It is not hop on/off.
If you just want to go to the fortress, there is a public transport bus that arrives/departs near the Rezidenz that takes you up to the fortress and back down.

Easy to find if you follow direction given to you. Fantastic facilities in that the little road train is comfortable and will equipped with multiple languages via Headphones lasted about 40 minutes and talked about the main sites to see in town. We only had one day so it meant that we had the ability to make the most of what “tweaked our” interest whilst we were on the train and then went back and looked at things more in-depth as a self tour.

Lovely historic city. We visited as a coach trip to visit the Christmas Market. It was well spread out over the streets. The architecture was amazing. Having a dusting of snow whilst we were there finished the visit off nicely. We didn't ride on the land train as we didn't see it but would have done.

Lovely little tour though it was a bit short. The staff were very lovely but they did not give anyone any headphones to hear the tour in English. Maybe this is forgivable if they weren’t working but they asked my friend if I needed an English translation which makes no sense. My friend luckily speaks German and translated for me but the couple in front got their money back and rightly so.

We are sorry. Normally, everyone who needs a headset gets one. Can you tell us when you did the tour? We would like to solve the issue. You are also welcome to call or email us about this.
Nevertheless, we are very glad that you enjoyed the tour with our train.
Kind Regards,
