Really disappointing tour of Berlin....
Oct 2019
We were met at the ship by a very nice driver who drove us to Berlin. He explained that the autobahn was undergoing repair and it would take us an extra approx. 30 mins....it took more like an extra hour. We arrived and met Rachel the tour guide. She said oh your late and rushed us thru the tour. We went to a memorial and i asked how many blocks were in the design....and I quote" I know but I won't tell you, because the artist doesn't want you to know" ergo....I dont know. When we got back to the ship we found out from all the others on the ships tours how many there were. She was cold, and we finished the tour at 3.30 and were packed off to the ship where we arrived just after 8, the driver took us thru the back roads and it it took nearly 4.40 hours to get back. At one point we were concerned that we were not going to make sail time, so the driver was driving at 160km in the rain. The kicker is we paid $1525.32 for this 4 hour tour of Berlin + a 1 hour lunch at a local restaurant. The ships tours were way more value, and none of the people eon the ships tour were in the bus for more that 3 hours and 40 minutes. I called Viator to complain, and was told the guide is very pleasant and we got our moneys worth. We have used Viator many times before but this shall be the last. DONT USE VIATOR FOR BERLIN. The ships tours are better for this. Too bad we had such a lousy experience!!!!

Dear CURTISA158 Thank you for your feedback on this tour. Unfortunately, on the day of your trip, there was some works in progress on the motorway. The driver was compelled to take a detour, which took longer than he had estimated. He really couldn‘t have know exactly how long it was going to take as he hadn‘t experienced it before. He gave you an estimation. It was an exception on that day. We're not really sure what anyone could have done about that. We are sorry that you didn‘t click with our guide on the day. She may just have been stating a fact on arrival. The guide, in tandem with the driver, judged how long one could comfortably tour in Berlin, fitting in as much as possible, while keeping a comfortable departure time in mind for you. Our guide showed you as much of Berlin as was possible on the day. We are sorry that you felt it was rushed, but again we felt it best to show you as much as possible on the day. At no time did our guide and driver ever think that you would be late for your ship. They had planed the detour time into the time needed in Berlin and the duration of the corresponding return journey. In our 20 years of conducting shore excursion tours, no guest of ours has ever been even close to not making the ship‘s departure time. We are sorry that you found the price expensive. A private tour with vehicle, guide and driver exclusively for you is certainly different in every way from the big bus tours organised by the ships. Here's wishing you many happy travels in the future!

Great Tour and Ulli was a fantastic Guide
Aug 2018 • Family
We had a limited amount of time, having come from a cruise ship in Warnemünde - 3 hours from Berlin. Ulli showed us the main sites, explained the history and was a very pleasant presence throughout.
I can highly recommend this tour - I travelled with a daughter in her early twenties.

Worthwhile Walking Tour
Jul 2018 • Family
I visited Berlin for two weeks with my parents and we decided to do a walking tour on a whim. It seemed a little touristy for our liking, but none of us had been to Berlin before and it seemed like a quick way to learn about the layout and history of the city.

We arrived at the well marked pickup area and the people checking us in directed us to the tour we were doing. We then met our tour guide, Brian Bell, who was kind and genuinely wanted to learn about everyone in his group before we headed out. We talked for about 10 minutes before the tour and it turns out that we had some mutual interests because we both work in the arts!

As we began the tour, Brian gave us an overview of what we'd be seeing and why, a rough schedule of breaks and parts of the city we'd be in, and the historical relevance of the tour. He provided relevant facts about the city, the history, the architecture, and when he answered our questions you could tell he had a wealth of knowledge and curiosity about everything regarding Berlin!

There is a 30 minute lunch break about halfway through. When we did the tour it was sunny but a perfect temperature, so we needed sunscreen. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes as well! I mentioned earlier that at first I thought a walking tour was a bit touristy, but I liked how intimate and low-key this company made the tour. The guide wasn't wearing a crazy bright colored shirt and as participants we didn't have to wear any silly badges either. Brian, as well as the other people on the tour, all did a great job of keeping track of one another. Of course you could tell it was a walking tour, but Brian made sure that we were being culturally respectful of other tours passing through and the locals seeing the sites.

This tour lets you see Museum Island, Checkpoint Charlie, the Memorials along the Unter den Linden, The Berlin Wall, The Memorial of the Murdered Jews of Europe, and the Brandenburg Gate. At the end, Brian offered his assistance to anyone who wanted to see other notable parts of the city and gave directions and recommendations. If you're in Berlin, I recommend visiting all of those sites, why not do it on a walking tour?!

Best of Berlin
We did the hidden Berlin tour with insider Berlin and loved it. While it is a long drive from Rostock, it is well worth your time and money. Our guide Anne grew up as a east Berliner and saw the wall coming down as a teenager. We saw a lot of the major sites and finished the day at a great German beer garden. A really nice day. Our driver micha was also very nice and got us back to our port swiftly before we sailed. Highly recommended!!!

A brilliant way to see Berlin
Feb 2018 • Couples
If you are considering a guided walk of the City, the Insider Tour is absolutely brilliant. Our walk was led by the incredibly knowledgeable and lovely Kiwi Mike, whose infectious love of the German capital just adds to the tour. Even the freezing cold weather, biting wind and snow didn’t dampen his and our enthusiasm.

Insider Tours offer a variety of tours of the city including Hitler and WWII, Behind The Wall and a tour of a Consentration Camp. We took the “Famous Walk” which takes in all the main sites in a half day tour, including Hitler’s Bunker, Museum Island, The Berlin Wall and the Jewish Memorial. All along the walk, Mike provided us with great details, background stories to the sites and insider tip of other things to see and places to go. Mike also had photos and iPad clips to show us how buildings looked before, during and after the war - a great addition.

We also had a welcome 20 min coffee and and bathroom break half way through the tour in a local coffee shop (a chance for us all to heat up for a while!!).

The Insider Tour really is a fantastic way to spend half a day and see so much of this beautiful city, we couldn’t recommend it more and if you are lucky enough to have Mike as your guide, you couldn’t possibly be disappointed.

We would like to thank you for choosing Insider Tour, and for recommending us! We do hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Berlin, Hopefully we will see you again the summer when it's a bit warmer! Happy travels, Sophie
