Great Tour in Granada! Highly recommend
Oct 2021 • Couples
We had a really great day with Baruch. He is a historian and is so knowledgeable and very personable. We learned more from him about Spanish history than from any other tour. I highly recommend this experience. 5 stars!

A Granada Jewish tour of everything and nothing
Sep 2021
Baruch gave us an excellent lecture and tour of Granada related to the Jews of Granada. It was remarkable in that there was almost nothing to see. The existence of the Jews of Granada had been erased. Baruch brought it all back to life for us with stories, history, biography and philosophy. He was able to accommodate our group, half of which spoke only English and half only Spanish. We found him knowledgeable and thoroughly charming. Highly recommended

Excellent and on the "Must See" list if interested in the history of Granada or Spain's "lost" Jews
Feb 2020
Excellent and on the "Must See" list if you have an interest in Sephardic or Jewish history in Spain. Baruch is a historian specializing in this area that is unfortunately not publicized or acknowledged elsewhere. Baruch is both knowledgeable on the subject and brings the rich and influential history of Spain's Jews to life while visiting areas you will likely not see on any other tour. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Unpleasant experience with provider.
Jan 2020
I booked a group Granada Jewish History tour for 1/1/2020 via Trip Advisor (on 30/12/19) and selected "two people". I paid the 40 Euro's requested and received my tickets, excited for the tour. At around 23.00 on 31/12/19 I received a string of messages from "Baruch" via "Whats App" asking for more money. Baruch explained that he "can't be expected to work for the amount paid". "Baruch" was stating that whilst tours are actually 150 Euros, he would grugingly accept 80. I explained that I had paid the amount requested for two tickets on a group tour via Trip Advisor and that he should visit the site and check for himself. He advised that the amount paid would cover only one person. As a gesture of goodwill I offered to attend without my partner. Baruch further explained that he was not willing to provide the service for the amount paid. Put off by this experience, and wary of potentially dishonest practise, I asked for a refund - he said he would refund, and then blocked me on Whats App. Having not received a prompt refund via my payment method (PayPal) I supplied Whats App screenshots to Trip Advisor and requested, and received, a full refund.

Mr. Gold. Unsurprisingly, the tone of your message here reflects your tone during the booking process. Having booked your tour at 10.15pm on New Year's Eve to begin at 10am New Year's morning, I explained to you very clearly by WhatsApp message that the Group tour price was €40 per person, and that I was unsure of how you'd been able to book 2 people for the price of one. Likewise, the minimum number of people required for a Group Tour to run is 4. Furthermore, I also made clear that I'd be happy to give you a Private Tour at nearly half price - so two people for €40 each - the Group Tour price for an entirely Private Tour - which you rudely & duly declined. This was not only a reasonable offer, but a generous one, considering the date & the circumstances. I myself contacted TripAdvisor the same evening requesting your money be returned to you, and it was the following week. As an Academic, and self-made, self-employed sole operator, I will neither be bullied, chiseled, and in your case - hounded - into working with unreasonable clients for a discounted rate on a high holiday. You are not entitled to my services, and I'm under no obligation whatsoever to accept your business. You do not set My prices, or my schedule, Sir. In 15 years of researching my subject and providing the highest quality of service possible, I've never had as disagreeable an experience with a Client as I had with you - although I was aware that one day I might. Quite Sincerely, Baruch

We took a half-day private tour with Baruch and it was EXCELLENT. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and very responsive to questions and requests. At our request, he covered a lot of ground during the tour. We were so pleased that we took another half day private tour with Baruch.

Excellent tour!

Really interesting tour with a knowledgeable and engaged guide. There is so little physical evidence of the presence of Jews in Granada (ie nothing !) that this is a triumph of interpreting hints and signs as to what happened. We loved it. Thank you Baruch!

History tour of Granada
Oct 2019
Was not sure what to expect, as there are few reminders of our ancestors in Granada. It seems we lost out when the Spanish kings decided to move all the Jews and Muslims away hundreds of years ago. However, Baruch made a great job of explaining all the history, circumstances and present understanding. Have encouraged him to write the book before his knowledge gets lost in time, too. A great walk, brought a difficult subject to life. Cannot recommend his tour more highly - find the time to do this if you are in Granada.

Excellent tour with knowledgable Baruch
Aug 2019
I took an excellent tour of Jewish Granada with Baruch yesterday. He has clearly done a lot of research and is knowledgeable and passionate about his subject. As others mentioned, we saw areas off the beaten track as well as the center of town. He pointed out a lot of items I wouldn't have seen or known the background. He even taught me something fascinating about the street signs in Madrid.

I had scheduled a tour for the afternoon, but since it was so hot and I was the only one signed up on this hot August day, he accommodated me and made the tour earlier. This tour offers a lot of information and would be good for someone who wants to understand more about the history of Jews in Granada, Jews in Spain, or who would just like a comprehensive, intellectual tour/ discussion on the history of Spain, as Baruch can speak on a variety of topics. Baruch was a friendly guy and lots of the locals gave him a wave as we passed by. He is a native English speaker so there were no language issues, although he is fluent in Spanish and well. He even made me a reservation for the next day at an excellent restaurant near the tour.

I have taken other Jewish tours in Spain, but so far this was the most thorough in terms of Jewish history. It wasn't like the others where they can show you a synagogue, but It was a nice complement to my other tours. I recommend this tour with Baruch. Definitely wear comfortable shoes.

Deep, radical tour of the Jewish Granada story that doesn't get told
Jul 2019
I'm a young Jew from the Bay Area, whose grandfather is Sephardi Moroccan (originally from Córdoba). And I LOVED this tour. It's radical, it's knowledgable. I was originally wary of the 2.5 hour timeline but honestly it was filled to the brim. We got to talk about diaspora and Catholicism and the hints that are left after our peoples' 1000 year golden life in Southern Spain. We learned about why the tiles of the streets in former Jewish quarters are colored why they are, the recent history of fascism in Spain, the Judeo-muslim symbiosis that happened here, etc.

I'm very far to the left and very deep in my Jewish practice and observance. Baruch was an awesome guide (surprisingly not Jewish, but knows our people/culture since an early age), and though there was one conversation I didn't participate in in the tour (about how the "9/11 mosque" was bad, which I disagree with) overall this was a super-radical and amazing tour left me wanting to continue to support Baruch's work in revealing the Jewish nature of "Granada al-Yahud"

PS There's also some LGBT history included, which was beautiful to me as an LGBT Jew as well.

Definitely recommend - if you're Jewish and visiting Granada, don't miss it!
