With this tour, a one-day overview of some highlights in the region is provided with a nice team: guide and driver. The guide Stephan did know a lot, and was very interested and motivated. The organisation was excellent, as well as the English explanation.

I only advice the driver to turn the airco in the bus lower, it was blowing such a cold wind that it was to become sick when entering the warm weather outside.

Our guide Sergei was inspirational in his knowledge of the Basque area and gave us a full history into the Jesuit movement which was started by its founder.
We then went on via the coastal route to San Sebastian.

This is a lovely day tour of and instruction to the Basque Country! I arrived in Bilbao with the goal of using it as jumping off point to explore some of the nearby locations but unsure where to start. I found this tour in a brochure in the Visitor's Center and signed up for the following day - I immediately received a phone call to set up the pick up location and time.

The tour travels via a small comfortable autobus/minivan which allows for a more intimate experience (I've been on tours which using the huge 50 person buses and you're limited where the bus can go at times). Our guide was Stefan, a local, was friendly and good natured. He easily transitioned between languages during the dual language (Spanish and English) tour; he speaks English at a high level and spoke Spanish at a speed where I could understand much of it as well.

The tour starts in Bilbao and travels to the Sanctuary of Loyola, the birthplace of St. Ignatius founder of the Jesuit order, where you receive a tour of the church and attached building. Afterwords you travel through a few small towns where Stefan pointed out different points of interest and recommended locations should you return to the area in the future.

The next stop was Getaria, this small town which sits on the Bay of Biscay. While a lovely spot to stop I and a few other passengers felt it was too long for the visit to the church and walk to the harbor but not long enough to sit down and enjoy a glass of wine. The tour then travels through a few other towns before arriving at San Sebastian.

We received a tour through the old quarter of the city and then free time to stop at one of the many cafes for lunch. We then met up again and traveled to a hilltop amusement center which offers incredible views of San Sebastian. Stefan was on hand to take photos of anyone who wanted a photo with the city and bay as a backdrop.

We then traveled back to Bilbao where you could be dropped off anywhere in the city (within reason).

Overall I recommend this tour as an introduction to the Basque Country since it gives you a taste of some of the highlights of the region.

Stephen goes the extra mile in order to please! His enthusiasm for his culture is infectious and he talks fast. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Good reliable driver. The tour gives a great picture of interesting sights and places in the area surrounding Bilbao, including beautiful San Sebastian.
