An unqualified recommendation. Ander is among the very best guides you could ever hope for. He was born and raised in Basque Country (San Sebastian). He is very friendly, courteous, fun (yet extremely professional), articulate (speaks 5 languages fluently and articulately, including English), extremely knowledgeable of the area, history, culture, best sights, restaurants, bars (Pintxos), etc. We had last minute itinerary changes and he graciously accommodated our needs. My wife and I were very interested in the Basque history, culture and sights (I have distant ancestors from the Basque country) and he exceeded our highest hopes & expectations. He chauffeured us in a new Mercedes van which was very comfortable. We experienced our tour in every way: sights, sounds, food, culture, history... extraordinary for 1 day. I am certain there could not have been a better gentleman to guide us through our day in the Basque Country. Go Basque worked with me to customize our tour experience to include two wineries and a lunch stop. (Quite patiently too I'll add, since our group had quite a few variables to work through.) The tour day ended up being exactly what I'd hoped for and our tour guide, Ander, was great -- very personable and great at anticipating our needs.

Incredible experience! We are a couple from New York who did 3 tours with Ander - a tour of the city of San Sebastián & pinxtos, a tour of the Basque countryside (including the BEAUTIFUL town of Elizondo), and a day trip to Bilbao. Every step of the process was flawless. Ander is a true local who is extremely knowledgeable and also just fun to be around. We can't recommend Go Basque enough. We have told our friends and family to visit this amazing area and book a tour with Go Basque. Seriously stop researching and just book it!

Our group of 4 wine lovers highly anticipated our trip to Rioja, since our we had to cancel our trip back in 2020 due to the pandemic. Nina was fantastic in booking the trip, helping to customize our winery stops as well as our lunch option. On the day of the tour, we were warmly greeted at our hotel in San Sebastian by Ander. He was due to be our guide back in 2020, so it was 3 years in the making! Once we were on our way, Ander provided helpful information, background, and history during the whole drive to the Rioja wine country. We began our tour in the town of Haro with stops at few of the smaller producers. Ander was incredibly flexible adding in extra stops here and there as we had extra time. We then headed to two fantastic smaller wineries in the countryside. Both were quite unique, using some newer methods and techniques, while respecting the traditions of the region. We had a delicious, relaxing lunch where we were able to try some local specialties. Finally, we rounded out a memorable day with a tour of the quaint town of La Guardia and a quick stop to take in the architectural sights of a few modern winery buildings. Even though this was a repeat trip to Rioja for some of the group, it was an entirely new, exciting, and unforgettable experience for us all. Ander was unfailingly informative and engaged throughout the entire trip. Ander and Nina were also incredibly helpful with tips and suggestions for the rest of our time in Basque country. Their cheat sheet of Pinxto bars was invaluable for our Pinxto crawl later in the week. The Go Basque team really made us feel like we were part of the Basque country family. We hope to return for future tours with the team.

We thought we were joining a tour group of about half a dozen people but it turned out to be a private tour with just my mother and myself - what a pleasant surprise! The scenery of the Basque Coast was just breathtaking. It was worth visiting there whether one had watched Game of Thrones or not. Our guide Ander was wonderful, very friendly and considerate. It felt like being guided by a knowledgeable local friend. It was very interesting learning about the traditions, history and culture of the Basque country from Ander. Knowing more about both the land (and the sea) and the people really made the trip so much more meaningful and memorable. Ander's colleague, Nina, was also amazingly kind. She gave us a detailed list of pintxo bars that they liked, as well as suggestions of pintxos and drinks, which were truly great recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in San Sebastián and this tour was the highlight of our entire trip. We hope to return to the Basque Country in the future and explore the region further with Nina and Ander.

We actually used Go Basque for three tours over four days, and by the end of the first day, Ander felt like an old friend! I cannot say enough good things about Go Basque -- from planning & scheduling to customizing three tours based on our specific interests to sharing a wealth of information and personal insight on a large breadth of Basque topics -- there isn't one thing that could have gone better with our experience. Using Ander's tips and recommendations, we felt like locals and were able to make the most of every minute in Bilbao, Rioja and San Sebastian. We fell in love with San Sebastian and have been raving about it and Go Basque since we returned home to Cincinnati.

In early November we did the Rioja Full Experience Private Tour with the company Go Basque. From the very beginning, when I contacted them regarding booking our tour, they could not have been more helpful. Unlike many tours, no payment was required to book and confirm the tour, but full payment would be required one month before, which was fine with us. I dealt with Nina throughout the entire booking process, and she was unfailingly helpful with my myriad of questions. She helped us decide which wineries to visit, which type of tour to take and assisted in explaining what sort of food we could expect on our included lunch in a winery. When the day arrived our driver, Ander, picked us up at our San Sebastian hotel right on time. Ander was simply wonderful and ensure that we had a fantastic day. Nothing was too much trouble; every question was answered and was truly the perfect guide. The wineries chosen were incredible, exactly the type of things that we wanted to experience in the Rioja region. Ander also gave us plenty of stops of photo opportunities of things that we were interested in. The included lunch was quite delicious and there was a huge amount of food. Before the day started, Ander warned that we would probably sleep on the way back. I inwardly scoffed as I never sleep in cars, or in the day, and certainly not with strangers. Well, this was a different day! We had so many wine tastings that also included lovely nibbles of jamon and cheese, followed by the huge lunch then a guided walk around La Guardia. Once we got in the car for the long journey back to San Sebastian, both my husband and I fell into a peaceful sleep. We had an amazing day and highly recommend Go Basque, and particularly Nina and Ander if you want the perfect private Rioja wine tour.

This tour is a fabulous way to experience the Rioja wine region. From beginning to end Ander was an excellent host with his knowledge and attention to detail. He looked after us both impeccably and we had some great conversations throughout the day. We would thoroughly recommend this tour. My travel companion and I had the ultimate 5 star treatment from our guide Ander . First we spoke a couple of days before our tour . He wanted to know if we had any special requests that he could satisfy for so he could plan our day accordingly. He picked us up in the morning from our hotel in his most comfortable vehicle .And from that point on the trip was a mix of luxury and excitement. We went to beautiful bespoke wineries where we had tasted classic Riojas and lesser known varietals. Everything explained perfectly either by Ander or by the sommelier . We went to a lux winery of our choice for a sit down lunch which was delicious followed by a side trip to the medieval village of LaGuardia . We continued to more wineries and ended our day with a healthy consumption of more of Riojas best wines . I think we napped a bit on our way back when we werent viewing the peaceful and beautiful Rioja scenery . If you want to pamper yourself with a great wine tasting experience book with Ander , you deserve it!!!

Nina and Ander were great hosts that guided us thru a number of wineries and local points of interest. Their passion for the area and the local wine culture was very evident and added to the overall experience. We also did a local cooking class that Go Basque arranged which was a fantastic experience. I would highly recommend these tours and Go Basque

We had a fabulous time on the wine tour with amazing views over San Sebastián. Anders was a great guide with good knowledge of the area and so welcoming and friendly. The winery tour and paired tasting at a family run winery was lovely and touring the seaside village of Getaria was a highlight also. Would definitely recommend this tour.
