About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- wildcatjack0 contributionsThrown From One Of The HorsesI arranged this for me and my wife, I was excited although both of us have little to no experience on riding horses. My wife rode Casino who initially whilst waiting for us seemed out of sorts and a bit bored. In the arena we were told to go to a horseshoe on the wall and wait with our horse, Casino didn’t fancy facing the wall (probably cause that’s what he had been doing for the past 20mins). On the trail itself he was well behaved, if not a bit stubborn in that he didn’t want to move off a few times. I was riding Jara, as I said I was so excited and I walked her down to the arena, faced the wall without issue. Whilst on the trail that’s when my ordeal happened, Jara felt wobbly, I didn’t know of this was due to the terrain, normal or there was something not right with her. As we continued on Jara started to buck and I lost control of her. I wasn’t instructed on what to do if this was to happen so naturally I gripped the reigns for fear of being thrown off and that’s exactly what happened. I was thrown off the back of Jara , I have landed on rocky ground but managed to get myself to safety and away from the out of control horse. I got back on Jara as I didn’t want to blame her for this, something obviously hadn’t been right but the instructors gave the impression she would be fine to get on again. As we moved off, one of the instructors told me to loosen the reigns if it was to happen again (I was already fearful and didn’t want there to be a second time). But sure as fate there was a second time, this time I managed to stay on Jara but I was quite scared the rest of the trek back. I was asked if I was ok but felt it wasn’t that sincere as they said it with nervous giggles. I have been very lucky not to have any major injuries. A few scrapes and bruising to my hips and glutes. In all honesty I didn’t want to be completely truthful regarding this experience. I felt bad for Jara the horse as I don’t feel it was her fault. I felt that she was bored, hungry and unsteady on her feet.Written 22 November 2024

- U141LUgaryf0 contributionsAvoid at all cost for animal welfare issuesOk I’m not quite sure where to start here, as a professional qualified British Horse Society coach/rider and represented Great Britain on 2 separate occasions I can hardly put in to words how little care was taken over this horses and how disgraced I was, as an advanced professional rider they gave me a horse that they referred to as lazy…… as an amateur wouldn’t be able to make it go, the poor animals had ill fitting saddle that pressing on its spine causing it pain to move, and stumbled the whole way around, and nearly fell over on two occasions, this could have caused a serious accident to a less balanced rider.! then on returning back to the stables i informed the staff who do not hold any for of qualifications in care of horses, so as I try to advise them the horse was uncomfortable I was met with a huge amount of hostility. Then also formed the horse I was on had on go issues with both front legs which they couldn’t identify correctly, even though they said it was under vet supervision but received no forms of Medication. so the poor horse was being made to work in pain, I can’t tell you how deeply upset and angry it was, it was be given NO medical treatment,to top it it off, very little attention was give to the horses feet which should be trimmed every 5/6weeks, I’m guessing they haven’t seen the farrier for at least 8/9 weeks this then has the affect of over stretching and stressing tendons, ligaments and joints I ended up speaking to the manager who claims the be BHS qualified, yet I can’t find home On the register, he obviously knew he was in The wrong and dealing with the wrong predom and just hung up the phone on me…….. if you have any love animals please do not go here. It was absolutely heartbreaking, see under malnourished horses having to carry over weight ridersWritten 10 November 2024
- mariahU2912AM0 contributionsGood experience safe to goPick up was on time and quick from Maspalomas. Horses were in good condition and safe to ride. On the route there was rocks, but horses were well adapted to rock ground. 1 hour route was walking, no faster speed. On the rocky route I wonder how on earth could we even at some point trott or gallop without breaking horses. View over the mountains was great and experience overall. I would take this tour again anytime. Superbonus nice cats at the stables..:)Written 8 November 2024

- sarahaC2630GB0 contributionsFantastic experience and well worth the transportation tooWe have been today and thoroughly enjoyed every minute being as I've not ridden in along time, even my children enjoyed it too, to my suprise as they've never got on a horse before!! The girls were very friendly and extremely good at giving advice to the novice's, the horses are well kept, the views are spectacular and I would highly recommend this trip to anyone, thanks so much for making me realise..I do need to get back in the saddle!! Many thanks Sarah Armitage 😘Written 30 September 2024
- Traveler514926636060 contributionsExcellent beginner experience on well looked after, well behaved horses.Went on a 1 hour ride at 1pm, including transfers. 2 adults (me and my daughter, who both have horses at home) took a friend's 7 year old daughter for her first riding experience. Transfer was punctual, staff were friendly, and the horses were clearly very well looked after - deep shavings beds with dinner and lovely green hay after the ride. The stables were really tidy and cool for the horses, despite the heat. We got the chance to buy treats for the horses after, and a shoe with the horses name on for our little girl. She had an absolutely amazing time, and is coming to our horses when we get home! Really good value for money. Just to comment on some negatives from other reviews - yes the path is rocky and sometimes the horses stumble, but you are on a volcanic island so it is to be expected. The horses are used to it and it doesn't hurt them. Finally, yes some are a little lean, but I imagine it is very difficult to keep weight on horses that are getting older in this climate. They all had lots of good quality food, and I noticed the horse in front of mine had corrective shoes (which are quite expensive) showing that they receive good vet and farrier care. Very much recommended.Written 2 August 2024
- Yunuh B0 contributionsSuper cute horseI like Divano. It was a really sweet horse. we drove through the mountains and it was very beautiful. The people took it easy for the people who had never been on a horse before. the horses looked well cared for, the people handled the horses correctly. the horses were very well behaved.Written 25 July 2024
- sylviam4010 contributionsPoor horse riding experience Gran CanariaHorse Riding May 2024 The horse was old had hardly any teeth and was tired they did not look in best condition (skinny) this was in hot gran canaria island. I feel they are not the best but not the worst it could of been so much worse. At the beginning of the ride before we mounted we got a pep talk 👄 they explained how to use the REINS very simply and how to kick them on, they explained nothing else did not even welcome us or seem happy to see us. They asked if we ridden before which I had in the past and this was my first riding experience in several years it was disappointing though the scenery was lovely very desert like adventure. My husband was was told to whip his horse because it would not go, hungry I would guess, even though he was a complete beginner that was his first taste of the sport. Fortunately he was not put off. He felt sorry for these horses too 😢 over worked and under fed shame really as it could be a special place with happy healthy horses. Over all my score is 2 out of 5 poor rating they could improve by treating their horses better and giving you a bottle of water it's not much to ask on a hot day.Written 29 June 2024

- 679ChrisB6790 contributionsLovely experience for all.I booked this as a surprise for my wife. She used to ride horses all the time but then life got in the way. As such, this was a lovely gift for her whilst we were on holiday (her words, not mine). Collection to and from our hotel in San Agustin was on time and simple. The transfer was nice, with some lovely views of local towns on the way to the stables. At the stables, everyone was introduced to their horses and, where necessary, given a few tips on horse-riding. The group consisted of highly experienced, current riders to absolute beginners and right across the age spectrum. The group went out for just under an hour and had a wonderful, calm walk in the sunshine. My wife’s horse was called Jara and she was a sweety. My wife loved her time with Jara and there was only one disappointment. When they returned to the stables the horses were immediately taken away (probably due to another group arriving shortly) and so she didn’t get a chance to buy/feed Jara some of the horse snacks that are on offer. That was the only even vaguely negatively negative aspect though as she had a lovely time and recommends this trip to others.Written 17 May 2024

The horses were not only healthy and well-cared for, but it warmed my heart to learn that some of them were rescues. The staff is exceptional – incredibly nice and attentive. Their genuine care for both the riders and the horses added an extra layer of warmth to the experience. It's clear that they love what they do, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that made the ride even more enjoyable. Kudos to the fantastic team! I highly recommend this company to anyone seeking a positive and ethical horse riding experience.Written 16 January 2024

Really fun 2 hour trip. Horses were really well behaved and looked well looked after. The guide we had was lovely as well. More experienced riders were given the opportunity to gallop, but is definitely suitable for all levels. Would highly recommend this trip if you’re looking for something a bit different in Gran Canaria

What can I say, the Finnish lady who took us was such a great chat and the horses were amazing. We booked two hours from 4-6 and boy they did not miss. What great value for money, can’t fault them. The horse was a bit lazy but that is no ones fault, they gave me a whip and taught me how to get titanic moving and it worked out fine he has a sweet soul. My wife sat on Cumbre and had no issues. Don’t expect beach ride this is mountain terrain with rocks but the riding experience and confidence you get in the end is amazing. Not to mention the views! This activity alone has made us make plans to come back next December already! And if you love the gram the shots you get while in the horses ain’t bad too! I hope tourism picks up and Jose and the whole team have a full stable of 30 horses again!
To top it all off a lot of them are rescued and retrained horses Thankyou for making our honeymoon!

Firstly communication with the company was first class they answered our facebook message immediately and all subsequent questions.
Picked up from our hotel with no problem and then had a little tour picking other people up.
On arrival we were checked in and then given some safety advice and instructions on how to deal with the horses.
Then you are split into beginner / intermediate and experienced riders so they can match you with a perfect horse for your experience. They go to great lengths to stress you must not give false information about your ability as this can be dangerous for you and more important for the horse as experienced riders do split off for a short while to have a gallop whilst the beginners carry on trekking.
The terrain is challenging with lots of rocks and hills but the horses deal with it very well with only the odd slip which they recover very well.
You definitely get 2 full hours riding which for a beginner is challenging on you bottom and legs also the heat is a factor.
My tips would be wear trousers/leggings as the saddle can rub skin and solid shoes.
My horse was called Titanic and he felt very safe and followed instructions very well from his beginner driver. The 2 girls who looked after us (group of 12) where fantastic and kept us all very safe.
It was a great morning and really liked the fact the health of the horses was always put first, i would highly recommend this activity. Great value for money.

Would honestly love to give a positive review but it's probably the least enjoyable thing I have done. They stuck me on a horse that plainly refused to go any faster than an extremely slow walk (probably 4kph maximum) and then the female guide constantly told me to go faster so I would kick and kick and it made zero difference he wouldn't go any faster. With the constant complaining at me I honestly wanted to get off and walk back, and pretty sure that's what thw horse wanted also.
To make matters worse everyone was in one big group so I was with people that have rode all their life and they were forced to go at slower than walking pace.
They then swapped me to another horse towards the end amd this one kept biting all pulling his reigns so I ended up with cuts on my hand.
Numerous people mentioned during the ride they wanted to turn around and go back but we continued for another 45 minutes.
So if you want to pay £120 to get moaned at for 2hrs then maybe you should go, I got zero apologies or any refund despite the owners knowing how upset I was.

The Horse Riding Experience with El Salobre was definately a highlight of my holiday in Gran Canaria.
The views were absolutely stunning. This alone could be a reason to take this excurtion. And when it says "2 hours", it is actually 2 hours on a horse, all the necessary preparations were outside of this time.
2 guides that we had, Jana and Dino where very friendly and proffesional, they explained everything very well and really made me feel safe, considering it was my very first time riding a horse.
Speaking of which, the horse that was assigned to me, Carpaccio, was a really good boy :) calm, friendly and very easy to control.
I really couldn't recommend Horse Riding Experience with El Sablero enough, if you ever visit Gran Canaria do not hesitate to check this amazing exeprience out. 100% satisfied.

Yet again a super time out in the saddle, Horses are well looked after and well schooled so responsive to aids. Gallops were fun and the views as always are lovely.
The staff are multi lingual really helpful and knowledgeable. Starting with a basic instruction session on safety and how to hold the reins for those who have not ridden before.
This experience is suitable for complete novice to experienced and you are guaranteed to have fun.
What should be noted is that there are several welfare cases that have been taken in as rescues, and though these horses and ponies are in the stables they are not there as working animals but rescue cases that have been taken from a very bad situation and are being looked after and rehabilitated. Some of the horses are in poor condition but with the love and care of Jose and his staff they will be rehabilitated and become happy healthy horses again. I take my hat off to these guys who are willing to not only run a working trekking yard but take on and rehabilitate sick animals as well.
All in all a great place to have a fun few hours out in the saddle. :-)

Wonderful views and experience, but groups of 15 with only two supporting staff resulted in feeling unsafe at times.
At the beginning of the experience we where matched to horses, depending on built and experience. We where them led to an arena to mount. Very basic instructions where given to the beginners group.
My daughters group rolled with her on its back. Thankfully she managed to jump off in time. If we had been advised to not let his head touch the ground, this would have been prevented.
My horse was extremely skittish and did not like other horses behind him. As I had chosen the beginner group, I found the experience tense and I was apprehensive. Having paid for a unique experience, I felt the stables could have done a better job, matching a skittish horse to a inexperienced rider. I did not feel comfortable or safe at times, which was not fair on the horse or myself.
Finally near the end of the trek, both guides went ahead to help the riders at the front dismount and left us to do the last 5 mins alone. As we where at the back of the trek and had to cross a main road, with traffic making loud reversing noises, my thought was if my skittish horse took off, I’d have no support. I’d advise the staff to consider if this is the safest option.
I would recommend the trip, but to riders with some experience. The views from the trek are amazing, the stables look clean and the horses well cared for.

I made a last minute decision to book and I’m so glad I did. I booked via trip advisor, simple and payment is not taken until the booking is confirmed. Minibus picked me up from the hotel and dropped me back at no extra charge.
The staff are fantastic and the it is clear that the care, health and well-being of their horses is the highest priority.
They separate the group into Beginners ( never ridden before or little experience) Intermediate (some experience riding and able to trot) Experienced ( several years riding experience, confident trotting and galloping)
We were all beginners which I think was a first ! I have ridden before but not with any regularity.
The route takes a full 2 hours and if you have never been on a horse before it is do-able but challenging.
My horse was called Carpaccio and he was a stubborn bugger but once he got going there was no stopping him.

My two autistic boys and I went on this experience in June 2022, and it was just wonderful for all of us. The staff were amazing, Dino walked alongside my two boys to help them and made sure they stayed safe throughout the whole journey. The horses were so well behaved and my two children adored every minute, and the sense of accomplishment they got out of it is nothing short of amazing. It was worth every penny and I am so glad I had the confidence to do it.

The 2 ladies running the horse trip were both lovely and did well at changing between a variety of languages. They tried to accommodate everyone’s different skills on the horses too! I felt completely safe at all times as before we set off, we were given very clear safety instructions and matched up with suitable horses to fit our abilities.
However, the track was very dusty & rough with lots of rocks, & it felt like the horses struggled with this. It would also have been nice to receive some water.
