About
On 19th December 1994, this area was reclassified as Anaga Rural Park, creating a further three sectors within the confines of the park: Ijuana Integral Nature Reserve (T-1), El Pijaral Integral Nature Reserve and Los Roques de Anaga Integral Nature Reserve, and they were awarded the highest degree of environmental protection in order to guarantee the conservation of their fragile ecosystems. Access is also controlled to Monte de Aguirre, a rare ancient laurel forest.

What to expect
The Anaga Mountains occupy a large section of the north-east part of Tenerife and consists of coastline, ravines, Laurel forests and villages that are so remote it is amazing that anyone actually lives in them. This whole area is a protected natural landscape, it is breathtakingly beautiful and full of twists and turns that will delight and amaze. Our walk is a great introduction to the area and its outstanding natural beauty. It is full of spectacular contrasts, and home to a wealth of native fauna and flora, a direct result of the region's isolation and ecological variety. The area’s special climate has led to the existence of one of the most important specimens of laurisilva or laurel forest in the world. This primitive forest dates from the Tertiary Period and is only preserved in the Canaries, Madeira and several islands of the Azores. Laurisilva is an extremely important resource, since its dense mass retains moisture, refills the aquifers (natural water deposits on the island), as well as creating and preserving fertile soil. There are many routes to choose from with this walk. Distance: approx about 15km, 600m ascent/descent, moderate to hard taking 5 hours.

Best hiking experience ever
Apr 2021 • Solo
I did several hikes with Andy, e.g. Anaga (two different beautiful hikes), Masca from above and a few others. They were all absolutely amazing. The views I enjoyed, the nature I experienced and all the knowledge Andy has about Tenerife and especially the plants and birds typical for the region made my experience perfect. He knows the most beautiful paths that I would have never found or hiked without him and I would have missed the most beautiful spots on Tenerife.

Great hike!
Jan 2020 • Solo
It was brilliant hike up the amazing Anaga exploring all different micro climates starting with the arid desert and going into the enhanced forest!
Andy is such an experienced guide always taking the routes less walked and showing the beauty of the area.
And he's great in sharing his knowledge of the land, flora, fauna and history!
It was great way to get hiking for me as a solo traveler and meet a bunch of friendly people with passion to the nature :)

Pity we nearly got blown away

If your liking is for hiking then Andy is your man. He is short on talk but very big on hike.

His hikes take in the spectacular off piste Tenerife and gives a whole new meaning to the isle of Tenerife. This hike takes us up mountain roads and paths with spectacular scenery.

You are picked up by car and delivered to your walk start point then a circular walk brings you back to the car. This walk takes the hikers out to the North of the island. To a part that is green and Forrest covered. It’s not Los America’s, you need good boots, no fancy trainers. A small rucksack and plenty of water. Oh a camera to catch those fantastic views. The walk normally takes 4 to 5 hours plus the hours drive. Unfortunately our walk was cut short because of high winds but still a spectacular day out well worth the £50 each we paid.

Unbelievable landscape.
Jan 2020 • Couples
Expected a barren volcanic island and found a million year old Laurel rainforest.
Beautiful and magical but not for the faint hearted if you plan to drive yourself !!!
Narrow roads and big drops - take your time.
Worth it.

Lovely people, lovely guide - great fun!
Dec 2019
I went hiking with Andy in 2018 and couldn't wait to go on more hikes in 2019! I was not disappointed. Andy is great guide, he picks you up from your hotel, drives you to the location, leads the walk, gives information and then drives you back to your hotel - all done with great humour.
It's a perfect day out for fitness, challenging yourself, meeting new people, experiencing the most beautiful parts of Tenerife with an experienced and very safe guide.

Amazing Anaga - amazing rain forest
Nov 2019
Always try and fit in one or more of Andy's walks when visiting Tenerife. Gets me to see parts of Tenerife I wouldn't get to otherwise. Really enjoyed this day out with my girlfriend, Andy, and a nice group of like minded hikers. The contrast in climate between north and south is amazing and well worth the trip north with Andy to experience this recognised Biosphere reserve and the lush rain forest.
