Visit: Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya - MNAC, Palau Nacional. Parc de Montjuic Palau Nacional, 08038 Barcelona Spain

Permanent collection of the National Art Museum of Catalonia:

Make your way to the National Art Museum in the beautiful National Palace on Montjuic Hill. Redeem your voucher at the ticket office and head inside to enjoy the art independently.

Opened in 1934, the museum houses a vast collection of Catalan, Spanish and European art that spans a period of roughly 1,000 years. The gallery includes works by Titian, Gainsborough and modernist masters such as Gaudí, too. Perhaps start with the museum's most famous treasures: its Romanesque frescoes. View the vivid artworks, many of which are displayed in recreated church interiors. Don't miss the eye-catching 12th-century Christ in Majesty that depicts a luminous Christ sitting on a rainbow. Explore the stunning Renaissance and baroque collections of paintings and sculptures from Europe between the 1400s and 1900s, with masterpieces by Canaletto, Titian and Goya. Another highlight is the Modern Art section, home to paintings, sculptures, posters and other art nouveau works by 19th- and 20th-century Catalan artists. The showpiece is a collection of Gaudí furniture that includes sinuous wood chairs and doors.

How long you stay in the museum is up to you, but many people find that three hours is sufficient.

If the views and steps outside the museum itself weren't enough, the inside of the museum houses a vast collection of Catalonian artwork from various historical periods. The admission ticket is good for two days, so you could spend the hot afternoons inside over a...More

A must see. Fantastic building in itself. Viewed the medieval and gothic Middle Ages sections and was so impressed. It’s well set out. Easy to navigate around. A cafe for lunch. Very reasonable entry prices. One of the best art galleries I’ve seen. Would recommend.

We walked there in the morning before we go to the castle and the Teleférico and it was a free entrance for that day we enjoyed the art pieces inside the view from the top

The museum is very interesting and big, unfortunately it closes very early in the afternoon and it's difficult to visit it just in a few hours.

We were there during the afternoon hours and there was a bar to the side of the terrace entrance, but I don't know if it stays open until after dark when the fountains start their performance. Besides, I would probably want... More
