    What to Expect
Visit: Casa Vicens, Carrer de les Carolines, 20-26, 08012 Barcelona Spain

Casa Vicens, the first house Gaudi, and the first important work of the architect, offers the visitor one of  the key pieces of the career of Antoni Gaudí's work that marked his point starting and architectural jewel that was declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2005.
Built between 1883 and 1885 by order of Don Manuel  Vicens, the Casa Vicens is an early Modernist masterpieces, anticipating the later work of Gaudi and a living example of aesthetic renewal of the air we breathe at the nineteenth century Europe.
Originally, it was planned as a summer house with garden, in which geometric shapes and rich decoration, inspired by vegetation in the environment, are present both outside the home and the different interiors.

The house is beautiful, inside and out. His design is amazing. I was left sad though as 1.5 floors have been restored, the rest are just white rooms with model displays. Not sure what happened with the restoration in the rest of the property.More

Dear Sher_and_Jase, Thank you for sharing your feedback. Casa Vicens is divided into two sections: the 1885 Gaudí original design and the 1925 Serra de Martínez extension. The owners living in Casa Vicens from 1925 to 2014 have been adapting the 1925 extension to their...More

Not having preconceptions, I was delighted by Gaudi’s first house. It was so refreshing to enjoy his early work without the masses of other tourists his better known buildings attract.

Gaudi's first house is incredible. It foreshadows the genius that is Gaudi. It's important to take in every aspect-from the tile used, to the decorative ceilings, to his love of nature and how he incorporates it into his work. What an awesome place to visit.

The very first design by the great Antoni Gaudi. The last time I visited, then house was still undergoing renovation. Now that's completed and it's well and truly worth it. The house is more Neo-Mudejar than the Modernisme for which Gaudi is primarily known for,...More
