About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- patm3530 contributionsLimited interaction, picked up some good recommendations, short time.Large group 19 people which limited interaction as one pan of Paella was made. We left hungry and was asked to leave before being able was to enjoy the sangria. Extra portions were whisked away instead of offering it to group. Over expected more for price. Disappointing.Written 17 September 2023
- alina_isachenka2960 contributionsThe food id better than in a fine-dining restaurantIt was fantastic experience to go through the seafood market with a chef and be able to try different things you’d never otherwise try. Learning how to cook using freshest ingredients was such a cool experience! The food is better than in a fine-dining restaurant. 👏Written 21 May 2022
- zacha4040 contributionsEpic market tour and exciting paella class. 12/10 rating!Helena showed us unique Spanish produce, spices, and seafood around the historic market. The olive samples she fed us were incredible. After the short walk to the cooking locations where we were greeted with drinks and light appetizers, along with the opportunity to help prepare sangria, pan con tomate, and of course the paella. There was something for everyone to contribute as the dish progressed. Helena and her daughter were not only patient teachers, they were so fun to be around and converse with. After the meal I felt like the time flew by because of how much fun it all was. 100% recommend this experience for anyone visiting Barcelona whether alone or in a group.Written 19 May 2022
- Maria200020220 contributionsAmazing experience! This cooking experience was the highlight of our trip. Wonderful host, she made our market tour really special: she knows all sellers, we tasted so many different things, took many pictures at seafood shop with alive moving lobster and other alive creatures:) Then her cooking studio was spacious, beautiful, cosy and sparkling clean. Her class was very interactive, hands-on and thoughtful. Bottomless glasses with really good quality wine and cava. We made the best cava sangria I ever tasted and paella we made together was way better than at any Barcelona restaurant. (And we visited many of them:) I highly recommend this to anyone who loves cooking and enjoy meeting new people while traveling.Written 19 May 2022
- jadelarubia0 contributionsBest Paella Class, for sure!!!Helina and her daughter have created an exceptional experience. We loved it from the moment it started at the market to when it ended in her wonderful cooking space. The market experience was very informative - hands on, interesting and directly tied to the cooking experience. That was just the setup for learning to cook several delicious items and also Sangria. The cooking class was supplemented with a lot of information that we can use in the future. What really impressed us was the Helena has clearly held this class quite a few times just from the number of reviews that have been provided, but you would not know it from how she engaged with all of us from the very start. You would have thought it was her first class. Highly recommended.Written 19 May 2022
- kadesham940 contributionsAuthentic Paella Cooking ExperienceA really fun day! Helina takes you through the market with headsets so you don’t miss any of the details…you can hear & see it all! Her and her daughter are thoughtful when you step in to the kitchen to prepare the paella and sangria! The experience did not feel rushed and they did a great job of getting everyone to mingle over a great and delicious meal. This is a must do in Barcelona!Written 18 May 2022

Beautiful cooking workshop on paella. Maria led a tour of the famous Boqueria market in Barcelona, we bought fresh seafood, vegetables and spices there, learned to distinguish Spanish saffron. After that, in a comfortable studio, they prepared a luxurious seafood paella with cuttlefish ink, learned to make sangria and Spanish snacks - tapas. We have received comprehensive recommendations on special pans for cooking paella and have already ordered them and special Spanish rice in Amazon. Nearly four hours flew by unnoticed, in close contact with guests from England and America. We are lucky to have chosen this particular master class, we can recommend Maria and her mother's cooking school to everyone who comes to Barcelona.

Maria was FANTASTIC!!!! She was so knowledgable and made the class so much fun. She took us through the biggest market here in Barcelona and was completely unbothered by the crowds. She was prepared with headsets so we could hear her through the crowds. She had connections at the market and we tasted several Spain-musts! I cannot say enough about this experience. Wish I could give her 10 stars.

We had a very nice group - our family of 4 (including children ages 18 & 22) plus 2 other couples. Helena made sure everyone was introduced to each other. She gave us headsets to wear during the incredible market tour so we could hear her explanations clearly- she gave us an in depth lesson on the seafood, vegetables, spices, and rice that are used in paella (plus a taste of iberico ham). And all of the fresh ingredients we used to make Paella were purchased during our market tour.
Her cooking classroom is an easy walk from the market— a lovely space for cooking and dining. She and her assistant treated us to cava, tomato/garlic bread & cheese/charcuterie & then had us prepare sangria and the paella together. What a fun & delicious way to spend the afternoon! Helena was an enthusiastic teacher and sent us her YouTube links for the recipes after the class so we could remember all of her techniques to make paella at home. I would definitely recommend Helena’s class to anyone looking for an authentic Barcelona experience that’s fun, hands on, and a small group format.

This whole cooking experience was absolutely amazing. Maria and her team went above and beyond to accommodate my allergies and allowed me to make my own separate paella for just one person (definitely reach out to them via WhatsApp and they work with you).
The market experience was awesome. We started with a cold glass of cava which helped to cool you off as you walked around the market and learned about all the different products and why we were purchasing them. Learning the difference between Jamon Iberico vs Jamon Serrano; seeing a fresh squid/cuttlefish being broken down in front of you, what spices are essential to paella and what things at the market are tourist traps.
The cooking experience was also just as amazing where we learned every step of the paella process, and they made sure to include everyone in the group within the cooking experience (we were a group of 6). Finally we learned all about the proper way to make sangria / pan con tomate and more.
This experience was just so great and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about food and culture!

This was a superb experience! The class prepared 2 sangrias and two paellas; all were wonderful. Instruction was detailed covering ingredients, techniques and equipment along with explanations of why things are done in a particular manner. Maria did an excellent job encouraging student interaction and sharing a bit of Barcelona culture. Her follow up included where to purchase ingredients and all of her recipes. You depart with confidence to prepare these dishes at home plus a deeper appreciation as you savor paella and sangria in restaurants. Definitely a highlight of our time in Barcelona.

Having participated in many tours and experiences throughout several continents, my husband, and I both agree that this was the best travel excursion! Maria gave us four great hours in Barcelona with shopping and tasting tips in the Boqueria, amazing wine and tomato toast, and a great cooking demonstration. We plan to use all our new recipes to wow friends with tomato toast, sangria, and paella. The class was well organized, and I had communication before the class with great directions on meeting time and place. Every moment was fun. We are already discussing when we can come back and enjoy another evening with this organization. My husband says the price was an amazing value for an evening of food and drink.

I went on a Sunday, so the market wasn't open and part of the tour. However, that didn't matter to me. It was a very small group (only 3 of us) probably because of that, allowing for loads of personal instruction, food, wine and sangria. Maria is an excellent teacher. She really knows her stuff.

If I could give this experience more than 5 stars I would! My husband and I took class with Helena and her lovely daughter on our honeymoon and it was so much fun and so informative! We felt like part of the family for the afternoon. I highly recommend booking the class that includes the market tour to shop for ingredients as well. The hospitality was incredible, the food was amazing and overall we had a blast! Paella Barcelona went above and beyond!

This experience exceeded all expectations! We booked in with Maria for a 9 person mixed stag do and it was the best event of the trip. From browsing & sampling the foods at the market to making (a lot) of sangria & paella, we had an amazing time. I would definitely recommend it if you're coming to Barcelona in a group! Especially if you love learning a bit more about what you're eating, food & booze!
