About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Keith S0 contributionsWonderful ExperienceMy wife and I thoroughly recommended this company. We joined Francesc, one of the partners, on the Via Ferrata Montserrat. We found Francesco to be personable, safety conscious and very knowledgeable. Our trip went very smoothly re planning and meeting. The climb itself was spectacular, with Francesco assisting us up the more challenging parts, it was still a workout (our first ever climb). The views and vista were stunningly beautiful. Nothing but good things to say. Do ensure you have sturdy hiking / mountain shoes / boots, trainers / sneakers are not really up to it.Written 26 September 2019
- Segnatan0 contributionsAbove all expectationsMe and my wife have been climbing indoors for about a year and climbed a few times outdoors. Never attempted a multipitch route and not knowing where to start to look for the right one in Montserrat we contacted Francisc. He matched us with a 5 pitch route following a 3 pitch route. Both routes were perfect for our skills, with extraordinary views of the abbey and the surrounding valley. Francisc being super professional made us feel comfortable with leading, setting up anchors and rappelling. After his day of guiding both of us feel confident to do multipitch climbs whereever we go. Thank you Francisc!Written 17 September 2019
- Sherpa256050561460 contributionsOur first multi-pitch was a success! We were in Barcelona for a week and decided it would be nice to get out to Montserrat to climb. Not knowing the lay of the land we decided to get a guide. It was a great choice. It was a beautiful day and we had amazing views. Lisi was super helpful and and walked us through our first multi-pitch route. It helps we've done a fair amount of sport climbing. I'd make sure anyone doing that has the basics down or sticks to single pitch.Written 23 March 2019
- kradeki0 contributionsVery communicative, experienced, professionalI have previous multi pitch climbing experience and relied on Francesc to choose an intermediate route that would be interesting but not stressful for me (I'm recovering from an injury.) I had contacted multiple climbing guides in the region to inquire, and Francesc stood out in being most helpful. He was able to provide topos and recommendations in his messages, and his information on what to expect day-of was spot on. On the approach hike he told many stories and factoids about the area, which was interesting. The climb was fantastic and I felt very safe the whole time. Great experience.Written 15 January 2019
- PernillaAlm0 contributionsGreat experience! Highly recommend!I found this company googling and read comments here on tripadvisor and decided to contact them for a climbing experience on Montserrat. I am an unexperienced climber and have only, up until yesterday, climbed indoors on walls. They were professional all the way. They replied to my inquiry almost right away and we booked a date only one week away. I was supposed to climb Wednesday but on Monday they contacted me and wondered if I could reschedule because the weather would be bad on Wednesday. So we rescheduled for Tuesday. My guide Xisco was calm, professional and made me feel safe right away. He knew when to give me instructions and when to let me try for myself. I have to say that the whole process was smooth and professional. From booking to the actual event. I highly recommend Guies de Montserrat! And climbing on Montserrat is something I will never forget! Plus - this may have been my first time on a mountainwall but it was for sure not the last!Written 31 October 2018
- dudridee0 contributionsMulti pitch climbing in MontserratWe went on one day climbing in Monserrat with Francesc as a guide. He suggested a multi pitch climbing. It was our first ever multi pitch and a highlight of out trip to Spain. He was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks, Francesc. You make it very tempting to come back next year.Written 4 October 2018
- Olivia J0 contributionsAn awesome adventure from the bottom to the top!Thank you to Xavi for one of the best day’s ever! From the bottom to the top of our multi pitch - he was diligent, clear, enthusiastic and inspiring. We went further and higher than we thought we could and he made sure we kept smiling through the tricky parts. A real rock star - thanks Xavi, we hope to climb with you again!Written 5 July 2018
- DixonTuckerdogs0 contributionsClimbing in MontserratI climbed in Montserrat with Fransesc and had a wonderful experience. From the beginning Fransesc provided a lot of information about the climbing options so that I could choose a route that was a good fit for me. The morning of the climb we met, Fransesc provided all the relevant gear, and we set off for a wonderful, 6 hour adventure. Fransesc is an incredibly experienced climber himself, able to manage all the relevant technical and safety details with ease, and a fun and reassuring guy to climb with. I would absolutely work with his company again, and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a unique adventure in this part of Spain.Written 22 June 2018
- anneleen_Cis0 contributionsGreat climbing experience in MontserratI had a great day climbing in Montserrat with Francesc. Booking was easy, communication clear and fast. Francesc knows the area very well and adapts to your climbing experience/level/wishes.Written 10 May 2018
- 2014traveller2014230 contributionsFirst outdoor climbThis was my first outdoor climb and it was.a really great day. We did a route that suited my skill level and nerves, so I could concentrate on just climbing. Francesc was professional, nice and reassuring, I felt totally safe. Montserrat is a stunning area.Written 26 April 2018
- jbz7770 contributionsAwesome day in MontserratHired Fransesc for the Via Ferrata Las Damas. Mix of casual climbers and people who have never been on rock before. Fransesc was patient, capable and engaged. The Via Ferrata was a blast. Great climb. Definitely something different to do outside Barcelona.Written 19 March 2018
- GrahamB680 contributionsExcellent via ferrata experienceMy two kids and I took the les Dames via ferrata excursion with guide Francesc and had a great time. Via ferrata refers to climbing up a mountain using iron rungs, bars, and cables that are bolted to the rock. You wear a climbing harness with dual lanyards for safety. We found it to be just the right combination of fun and challenging physicality. Francesc is a terrific guide who knows the routes inside and out and places the proper emphasis on safety. He is able to assist climbers if/when needed to make sure everyone has a good time. I would strongly recommend Francesc and his company as the first choice in outdoor adventuring for via ferrata or other activities in the Montserrat area.Written 14 January 2018
- ge_juliano0 contributionsAwesome guided rock Climbing in MontserratCesc is wonderful. Getting from Barca to Montserrat was a breeze by train, thanks to his instructions. My friend and I are solid lead climbers but didn’t know the area and wanted to have a guide to help us with a day of sport Climbing. Cesc was great and put up a bunch of fun routes. We didn’t have to worry about getting on routes at or above our limit because he is a super strong climber and cleaned up what we couldn’t finish. After the day, he drove us to our hostel at the Monastery. If you’re looking for a guide, he’s you’re guy!!!Written 10 January 2018
- M K0 contributionsGreat Day GetawayWe went to this picturesque mountain-top retreat with a tour group - this is the site of the 11th century Benedictine monastery and the Virgin of Montserrat which is located in the monastery's Royal Basilica. There is a lot of walking involved. There is also a museum with a private collection that one can enjoy - after entering the Basilica to see the Black Madonna. Great experience - amazing views.Written 19 July 2017
- Alan W0 contributionsMontserrat was an incredible place to visitWe traveled by train from Barcelona with our guide. Then we rode the gondola up the mountainside - a don't miss experience! We were there at a great time to get seats for the children's choir at the monastery. We are not hikers but could see that for those who are there are beautiful, if slightly arduous, trails. The complex is larger than it appears from the base of the mountain. Having a guide enriched the experience, helped us time our day effectively, and pointed us to great food options. Ernesto of BCNDreams Tours was entertaining and very informative.Written 22 June 2017

I highly recommend GdM climbing guides. We had a excellent day of climbing and our guide, Adri, was very experienced and took us to an area with some fun and challenging routes. Francesc coordinated the trip and responds quickly and communicated well. He did a great job arranging the trip around our request. For a day climbing trip it was well worth the cost.

An excellent experience through and through. From my initial search for potential guides, GDM guide service had the most thorough information, and best reviews.
During the initial information gathering, our guide Francesc was very prompt and thorough in responding to our queries. He provided very clear directions for getting from downtown Barcelona to the train station and cable car, and was waiting for my wife and I at the top.
We made the short walk up and after discussion of our route options, we elected to go with a nice 5 pitch sport route on Gorra Frígia based on the recommendation from Francesc. We brought our own shoes and harnesses, and Francesc provided helmets and necessary gear. Francesc led the first pitch, and then let me (an experienced trad leader) lead the remaining 4 pitches to the top. He was very helpful with providing clear beta for the routes, and even took some great pictures of us while in action, which he later shared free of charge :)
From the top, we rappelled down and took the trail back to the monastery where Francesc parted ways, after some good food recommendations. His great personality, attention to detail, and extensive knowledge of the area were crucial to the success of our day.
I would highly recommend a day of climbing with GDM!
