    Royal Palace of Madrid
Stop: 90 minutes - Admission included
Check in at our office and head to the Royal Palace with your guide, just two minutes walking distance from the same. Skip the lines and dive right into the history of this beautiful palace. Did you know its size doubles the one of Buckingham Palace? Build in an Italian baroque style, it was the former residence of the Spanish Monarchy from 1766 to 1931. Nowadays, it still is a great example of the establishment of Madrid as the capital of the kingdom. Today, it holds the most important receptions of the Spanish Crown. Know the audiences, dinner parties and signature of agreements celebrated through the years. Walk around the Armory Square. Marvel at the beautiful tapestries and elegant furniture. Follow your guide through the Grand Staircase, the Throne Room and the Banqueting Hall, among others. Once your guided visit finishes, you can visit the Royal Armory on your own. Make sure not to miss the views from the viewpoint of the Armory square!

We took the English part of the bilingual tour. I speak enough Spanish to know that our guide was providing more information to the Spanish speaking side. Also would appreciate more history as part of it.

Excellent tour with a lovely guide. We were a group of six with some members speaking English only and others more fluent in Spanish, the guide spoke both language and translated for the Spanish speakers. I highly recommend!

A very interesting palace tour. I learned a lot more about Spain's history and art culture than I anticipated. Our guide was also knowledgeable, personable and shared some funny stories. The time went by quickly during our tour.

This was money wasted. The English speaking guide was not interested and certainly not interesting. Took more than 50 minutes to start the tour. Couldn’t answer most of the questions asked of what seemed to be very important parts of the palace. kept saying he didn’t know!
Much better to buy one’s own ticket with their video/audio guide. And MUCH cheaper.
No concession ticket is available on the booking form but plenty of concessional prices if bought directly.
Left us feeling we had wasted our money and time.

the guide has done it too many times before and is tired of his own comments, so he tries to boost the experience by laughing of his comments. He does not keep the group together, which is bothersome when the venue is crowded. the headphone system is only so-so . I have seen much better in Cordoda and Granada. The blend of Spanish/English is disturbing to say the least. Poor experience, but a great palace well worth visiting . The armory part of it was very good, must be one of the most important collections in Europe, but little information and explanations were offered. How much does a standard equisdtrarian armoury weigh?

If your idea of a good time is standing in line 15 minutes or longer to gain access , discovering there are no charged audio guides and then walking half a mile to view the whimsical some would say detritus of hundreds of years of royal occupation, this is the place for you. Narration is minimal and there is not even the pretense of any type of historical interpretation. You are marched into the kitchens to confront a fizzing display of kitchen utensils without narration other than to be told about successive kitchen names, the ongoing remodeling thereof and the names of he architects who presided over remodeling after remodeling. Why? Who paid for it and what were the reasons for the nearly ongoing changes? A static display of hundreds of copper pans and kitchen utensils speaks to no one. Those who worked those kitchens and polished that silver deserve a voice. Gawking up at painted ceilings and over the wall decorative elements serves neither the viewer nor the country of Spain well . Who designed this place? What were their ambitions? How did they come to serve the kings of Spain? This place is not Disneyland and certainly not the magic kingdom and yet thousands are ushered through daily to gawk and exclaim about the physical embellishments of a royal palace that needs to tell a real story.

We bought the tour at 12:15 pm which specifically said to be in English. This was not actually a convenient time for us, but it was the only time that said in English. The other tours said it would be in Spanish. However, it ended up that the company took a Spanish-speaking family to the group and the tour guide spoke both English and Spanish—which even seemed to be more Spanish than English. It was upsetting to us since this tour was more expensive than other Royal Palace tours. We chose this one because we thought a more expensive tour might be a better tour. We were wrong! We wasted at least half of our time listening to another language that we did not sign up for and the tour guide had to go fast to speak both languages and had no time left for us to ask questions. She did not even have time (or maybe knowledge) to tell much more than what was written on the signs in each room. After the tour, we walked back to the company and complained. The company said this tour was supposed to be bilangual and if we saw at the Viator’s website that it was in English, then it was Viator’s fault and not theirs. So here we say, either stop buying a tour from Viator because Viator was not truthful to customers, or do not select to go with this company—Julia Travel SL because they did not honor their advertisment. But yes, we did skip the line!

We can not recommend or rate this trip highly enough. It was a fantastic experience. Our guide, Barbara, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful which coupled with a good sense of humour and patience allowed our group to really experience this magnificent palace. At no point did we feel rushed or crowded and were able to see each room and ask questions – quite unlike our visit to Versailles last summer! We were impressed with the organisation, timing and planning and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A marvellous experience! Thank you Barbara. 

First off, I read multiple reviews (key!) of different tours and decided that those such as the HOHO bus were not worth it - too much construction going on in Madrid, and it's easy to walk everywhere, or occasionally take a taxi or uber (we only took a taxi, but they have uber). So, based on that, I chose the Skip-The-Line Palace tour and we were not disappointed! Our guide, Gonzalo, was PERFECT! He was very informative, funny (not obnoxiously so though), paced the tour right, and gave us our moneys worth. We left the tour company promptly and walked to the palace (it's literally around the corner from the palace). Our ear pieces worked and we could easily hear him. Our tour only had about 15 people on it- maybe due to it being a Monday and not high tourist season, and it was in English. That being said, there was a HUGE line to get in when we left, so obviously somebody is on vacation! Gonzalo was a wealth of information, but not to the point that you stopped listening. My girls even liked it and they were the only kids on the tour of mostly older adults. Gonzalo not only knew the history of the monarchy, but also the art in the palace, which is extensive. Everything from the frescos to paintings to statues. We had the full tour of every room that we could enter, and had those rooms to ourselves as he spoke about them, and we found it fascinating. I wish the royal kitchen was included, but that is a separate tour. It was a beautiful day and we were done approx 1 1/2 hrs after we started, giving us plenty of time to tour the amazing armoury that is also there and included in the price. There is even a decent gift shop on the premises. I would suggest going early to check in (at the tour agency) just to get a spot to sit if you desire. We checked in at 8 and our tour started at 9, but we just waked down the street and got a coffee and pastry. Gonzalo was the best guide we could have asked for and I hope that if we're ever back in Madrid and take another tour, he is the guide once again. This skip-the-line tour really does just that - the line to get in as we were leaving at about 11:30 was very long. You're touring the palace one hour before they open to the general public. Enough time to enjoy the rest of the day doing something else.

There is no clear advantage to buying tickets online to skip-the-line. Both the online tickets line and line with no tickets were moving at the same pace - in the hot sun.
