About
We propose you learning something else about Gran Vía and surroundings from the urban, historical and architectural point of view since it was conceived more than 100 years ago until its recent last reform. We will start on the rooftop of the Círculo de Bellas Artes, projected by Antonio Palacios, where you will enjoy the best views of the city. Likewise, we will know the history of other buildings such as the new headquarters of the City Council or the Cervantes Institute, Torres Blancas or Colón Towers. After going down the impressive staircase of the Círculo de Bellas Artes and visiting the building inside, we will start walking the first stretch of Gran Vía, stopping at Loewe, the luxury brand where Ava Gardner bought his exclusive bags before going to celebrate the premiere of his films at Museo Chicote with a cocktail together with bullfighters like Luis Miguel Dominguín, as Almodovar has done later in the 80`s. We will visit the Telefónica Building, the first Madrid skyscraper, whose cultural Foundation we will access together. We will continue the journey through the second section of Gran Vía, knowing the old Paris-Madrid Mall, the first luxury shopping center in Madrid. Later we will remember the missing Hotel Florida in Callao where Ernest Hemingway shared nights with international correspondents covering the Spanish Civil War. From here you will enjoy the views of the third section of Gran Vía with its cinemas and musical theaters that we will walk together to Plaza de España where we will finish at the last rooftop. A secret corner where we will have a drink while I tell you the project that will change this square with the Casa de Campo, Sabatini Gardens and the Royal Palace in the background. Other things to note Access to the first rooftop is not included (+5€/pax). It is offered as an option to finish the tour on the rooftop of the new Hotel Riu Plaza de España on the 27th floor with amazing views. Access MON-FRI +5€/pax till 6pm (no queue) +10€/pax from 6pm (queue of 20-30min). SAT-SUN +10€ ALL DAY (queues in the afternoon-evening) I offer other rooftops at the end of the architous without paying an entrance. The acces to all the rest of the buildings is included. You can have something to drink on the rooftops where we will stop at the beginning or at the end of the architour as an option.

A top experience
Highly recommendable. Great opportunity to experience Madrid in a different way with a personalized tour, we were only 4 people. Lots of details and interesting facts to know about the history and development of one of the most emblematic streets in Madrid and the urban development of Madrid itself. Very professional and caring, we actually finished way behind schedule because of the amount of details and things we saw. Indeed we had the chance to see an exhibit for free. Great value for money.

Great & professional guided tour of Gran Via!
Dec 2019
This tour hosted by our guide Emilio was the perfect way to get to know the lively area of the Gran Via of Madrid. From breathtaking bird eye views atop the terraces of some of Madrid's most iconic buildings to the discreet little boutiques where we discovered hidden architectural gems, every aspect of this grand avenue was commented and put in a historical context by our guide.
Emilio is passionate about his city and he drew the overall picture but he also pimped up his tour with entertaining anecdotes and insiders' information.
I would certainly recommend Architour for anyone interested in knowing the city better and from a different perspective, be it local, tourists from Spain or from abroad. Well worth the money, can't wait to book another tour on my next visit!

Thanks a lot for your review, Jhon. It was a pleasure to show you a small part of my city sharing the evening with you all, including the chat with drinks in the last rooftop. Happy to know you enjoyed the views from some of the best rooftops in the city and our secret hidden gems not so populars than the most touristic ones but we love you love them. See you soon in another of my architours in Madrid.

Excellent Summary in Theory and Practice of different architectural styles across time. Highly Entertaining
Dec 2019
The visit starts with an excellent overview of the history of the city of Madrid. It is done with very nice and didactic slides at an exceptional place to view the city, the terrace of the "Circle de Bellas Artes". The visit has great stops such those at LOEWE and Telefonica where some hidden gems are viewed and some visits to great terraces. The end of the visit having a drink on some fantastic (and in some cases very well hidden that add a sense of discovery to the visit) terraces is really a great closure to a great tour".

Thank you very much for your review, Graig. It was really nice to share with you both the afternoon showing a small part of my city. I really appreciated the talk with a drink in the last rooftoop knowing more about you both and the differences between Madrid and New York life. Hope to see you soon in Madrid in another of my architours or who knows where.

A really enjoyable, informative tour

I live in Madrid but Emilio opened my eyes to things I hadn’t seen or understood on Gran Vía that I have been down countless times. Neither dogmatic or boring Emilio gives you a clear picture of Madrid’s development (including amazing views from a number of rooftops) and that of Gran Vía. You come away having learnt about Antonio Palacios and the other architects of Gran Vía, how Spain/Madrid tried to express its self-image and hopes for the future through the facades of its “high street”. I hate a bad tour, this is a brilliant one. I will remember to look up in future. And I will look up more things about Madrid’s 20th Century architecture and urbanism. Many thanks

Thank you very much for your review, Tom. I am really happy to read how someone who does not like tours and who lives in the city has discovered with my architours to walk looking up to discover a lot of details that have been there for years. See you soon in other architour discovering other hidden gems in other neighborhoods.

Perfect tour with friends

Celebrated my 40th birthday in Madrid and decided to book a tour with Emilio for my guests. It was a great choice. We walked over Gran Via and got to visit some of its landmark buildings getting an interesting introduction to the city and its people. All my guests love it and we all ended up having tapas and drinks with Emilio. A great start for a long night in the city.

Emilio is a passionate that will allow you to discover the secrets of the late 1800s-early1900s transformation of Madrid. Despite his technical knowledge (he is an architect), he is never boring and has plenty of anecdotes to tell. He brings a fresh view to help you understand the real identity of the city, beneath the appearances of this glitzy and hectic city. The “cherry on the cake” is that Emilio will push secret for you doors that open to hidden beautiful places and take you on rooftops where you will embrace the whole urban landscape. A great experience!
