- ROOZBEHKH0 contributionsBeware! They are terrible and most likely rip you offTerrible people. It's officially a scam. They charged us for a guided tour 180 Euros, but when we went there, they refised to give us a guide and gave us a rubbish iPhone without any headphones. They are working with Project Napolu Service and book through Get Your Guide. After you pay, none of these will respond. GyG is getting a good commission from the scam to bring them on top of the list. It usually says it is likely to finish, but our tour was just the two of us.Written 26 September 2024

Our Pompeii tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful in making sure that our stroller (and kids) were able to complete the tour. She even found shady areas to chat in, since it was so hot that day. She included our older son (2) in the tour and helped hold his hand so he didn’t fall. She even sat with our napping son while we went to check out the pottery pieces. Then when we stopped for lunch, it was the BEST pizza we have ever had. We each ate our own whole pizza. The tour guide at mt Vesuvius gave us plenty of info on the bus ride up (included our son again as well) and then dropped us off to the complete the rest of the journey. I will say that it looked like a hike, so our family just enjoyed the view from where the buses left us and enjoyed ice cream. (We have a one year old, two year old, and my wife is 26 weeks pregnant) But there was a taxi service willing to drive you up if you paid them. All in all, it was an awesome experience.

The tour starts well: the guide, Francesca, is nice and the transport is on time. The tour in Pompeii is really too short, but at least you get a first impression of the city and don't queue up.
The tour gets very bad after Francesca leaves. You are left with two guides, Elisa and Elga, who are extremely disorganized and unhelpful. At lunch you are left waiting for a long time, all the time you would rather use to visit Pompeii. But above all, the guides, after having put us and two other guys in the bus for the Italians, because there wasn't enough space in the English one, didn't wait for us to visit Vesuvius with an English guide. The result was that we had to wait a long time under the sun for the second English speaking guide and the whole bus had to wait for us afterwards. So, after having created this problem for us, the two guides blamed us, in Italian, without giving us the chance to answer, in a bad tone, with the microphone of the bus. Objectively, the ride on the Vesuvius remains splendid, but I suggest to do it with another company.

Dear Sirs on the ride to Vesuvius there is no bus for english or italians, participants are aggregated in order to optimize drop off in Naples after the tour, all the people who has to get down in the same area of the town have to be together in the same vehicle.
On Vesuvius the new rules of the national park don't allow our guides to follow the group along the path that's why we have to wait everybody coming down in the parking. You were back in late Sir and that forced all the participants waiting for you in the bus. We didn't abandon you but that caused us troubles with everybody and our guides had to explain in the bus the reason of the late start. Best regards

I couldn't recommend this tour enough! It was the highlight of our trip to Naples and absolutely worth every penny. We were picked up at the Central train station and taken on a very interesting road up to Mount Vesuvius. We then walked to the summit, taking in the fantastic views and the crater. It took us 30 minutes to get to the top but your mileage may vary. I would recommend sturdy shoes as it was quite hard to walk back down - people kept slipping! There was a cafe at the top for drinks which was much needed. We then got back on the coach for 1pm. Unfortunately we had to wait 15 minutes as some people got on the coach after the agreed time. We went for lunch in Pompeii where we had a drink and pizza (spaghetti and salad were also available). After a bit of a wait, we were served the most delicious margherita pizza. It was gorgeous! We then went for our guided tour of Pompeii with the fantastic Francesa. She was brilliant - very funny, lively and informative. We learned a lot about Pompeii. Pompeii itself was better than expected - I couldn't believe how well preserved everything was. After a couple of hours we were taken back to the central station. I would truly recommend this tour because for £80 each, you get transport, entrance to Mount Vesuvius, entrance to Pompeii, a guided tour, entrance to a museum in it and pizza and a drink. You would definitely spend more money/time if you tried to do all these things by yourself!

I would avoid this service at all costs. Organisational skills, communication and customer care seems. I witnessed a tour operator give out to someone on the tour bus over the mic after he asked why is the bus an hour late leaving. She then proceeded to scream that it wasn't her fault and that she will get paid for this either. I took the liberty of recording the whole thing!

Dear Customer what about the tour? The activity started at 10:00 and ended at 17:30, we suppose everything was fine with it if you only talk about the departure of the return trip.
Anyway we inform you that the bus departed half an hour late on the way back because some participants didn't return at the meeting point at the fixed time, could we abandon these persons over there?!?
The guide was trying to explain that the delay was not our fault because we had to wait for someone of the group in late. We are sorry with this little inconvenience but it did not depend on us and we hope that you enjoyed the guided visits of all the sites. Regards

Really good day tour to Vesuvius and Pompeii. All the guides were very professional and enthusiastic, especially Laura who introduced Pompeii ruins telling the things really clearly and inspiring way in an extremely hot and grounded circumstances. Just a little minus was the lunch, we had to share the small table with an other couple and waited pizzas for half an hour. An other minus was the minibus, which was too small, we had to sit tightly intouch with other people and not everyone wore masks. Healthy measures were not completely considered at this point. This is only just a tiny thing. Allthough, I really enjoy the tour and recommend it!

We got to Pompeii and then had to stand and wait in the hot sun for over 45min as the male guide who was in charge kept saying wait here we starting in 5min. He would disappear and come back and say wait another 5min. In the end we waited over 45min.
However after lunch we were 3min late and he left for Mount Vesuvius without us. I called the office immediately and thankfully he had not gone far and was told by the office to come back and fetch us.
What made this a very unpleasant experience was his arrogance and obnoxious behaviour. He laughed at us and mocked us. He thought it's amusing to leave us behind. He lied and stated he waited 10min when in fact I had called the office after 3min and he lied and said he's not responsible for the 107 people on the bus. I counted the people on the bus and we were less than 50 with many seats empty. He's not the bus driver and he's not the tour guide. He's sole responsibility was to make sure everyone got on the bus in Pompeii and he failed to do that. He even came to us to argue that he's right in leaving us behind. What's also concerning is that in Mount Vesuvius he waited over 10min for someone who was late but for us he could not wait 3min.
I will never recommend this company to anyone because of the nasty attitude of staff and awful experience we had.

My family and I took part in this tour this week. It was a wonderful experience that we would highly recommend. The only downside (hence my 4* and not 5*) to it was the fact that we didn't feel like we saw enough of Pompeii before we were moving onto the next part of the day. In total we spent 1 hour 45 minutes exploring the ruins with our guide who was absolutely fantastic. Even though she clearly does the same tour every day she was incredibly enthusiastic in her delivery and shared lots of very interesting information. We then had lunch which was included in the cost. You had a choice of either a salad, lasagne or margarita pizza and a drink. Once lunch was over, you had some free time to explore the little market that was there selling souvenirs. Definitely shop around here and make offers on prices as the vendors were quite happy to negotiate costs.
It was then time to get back onto the bus and take the journey part-way up Vesuvius. We then had about an hour and a half to get to the top and then back down again. The climb wasn't difficult if you have a normal level of fitness. The trickiest part was the fact that the ground was loose rock and certain parts had a sand-like texture to them which caused your feet to sink into it.
I would definitely recommend this tour. It was the highlight of the trip for us.

I booked this tour on getYourGuide and would recommend it.
The service is really great! They came to pick us up directly at the hotel and, after a temperature measurement, they drove us to Pompeii. Equipped with comfortable radios, a very competent and friendly guide led us along a guided tour lasting about 2-3 hours. We passed through several important points of Pompeii. If you want to spend more time in Pompeii (the place allows it), maybe you should not go with a tour, but I found very comfortable this type of visit: very concrete and not very dispersive. Immediately after we go to a pizzeria where we have lunch with a margherita (quite good and, however, included in the price) and coffee offered by the very kind owner of the place. Afterwards we were led up to the slopes of Vesuvius, from which it is possible to take a walk. There are guides on site that will accompany you and a beautiful bar at a very high point. Then we were quietly escorted back to the hotel. Recommended!

We started out meeting right in front of the Napoli Centrale train station. There we all met and had a group of 12. First of all, three people in the group didn’t pay ahead of time for their tickets and didn’t have cash. The tour guides don’t carry a POS system with them so the three people exited the van to look for an ATM. The tour guide offered to take their card picture to send to the office, minus their 3 digit code and they chose to go to an ATM that didn’t exist and returned doing the first suggestion. Just saying the tour company should collect payment ahead of time. Anyway we had an excellent driver, Tony, he drove us up the mountain very comfortably. I never felt unsafe in the van. Juicy (not sure if I spelled this correct) was the English speaking assistant. They drove us from Napoli to Mt. Vesuvius. It is a pretty good hike from the drop off point up a very steep part of the mountain. I did see older people who completed it but it was definitely doable. We went in March and it was much colder and windy up towards the top. Dress accordingly so you can take layers off as needed. Definitely would recommend gloves and a hat to name a few. There was still snow on the mountain. I’ve heard they can shut the mountain down for either high winds or snow. After about an hour and a half on the mountain we went to Pompeii for the lunch and archeological tour of Pompeii. Lunch was in a restaurant. They served either choice of spaghetti or a whole pizza to each person and choose of beverage (soda, water, beer). After everyone was finished we met our new guide, Ansa. She was great. She was very informative and answered any questions. A lot of the areas of Pompeii are being preserved and you need to be careful about not touching the walls or columns. After we completed about a 2 hour tour we left and were driven back to the train station. Overall I highly recommend this tour. I would have loved to stay even longer. It was an amazing city that is still being excavated today.

We went all the way to Italy to see all the plasters casts of bodies caught in the pyroclastic cloud that hit Pompeii. We saw one (1) cast on this Pompeii tour. When we asked our tour guide where all the casts were kept she told us they were in the National Archeological Museum back in Naples. We later paid to go there. They had the same one cast. We asked the museum where all the casts were and they said they were back in a museum in Pompeii that our guide didn't bother to show us.
We were very disappointed. The ruins and Vesuvious were nice, but that's not what we went to Italy for. We didn't have time to go back to Pompeii a second time.
If you want to see plaster casts of volcano victims, don't choose this tour.

How long does this entire trip last? If the pickup time is 10:00, when can I expect to be dropped off at the end?

I'd say you'll be back by 5-6pm after you climb up Mt Vesuvius and go to Pompei. So it's a full 6-7 hour tour, but worth every penny!! you'll love it!! go for it!!

How much time do you get to spend at each site, and is there free exploration time, or only strictly guided tour (by the proctor) time?
Written 7 January 2023
The guided tour for Pompeii was good. Spent the whole morning there. If you want free time best not to do the guided tour. I preferred the guided tour as this was very informative. At Vesuvius you walk up to the rim and back down again, or you can just stay at the bottom with the shops and stalls. This isn't guided so you can go at your own pace, but you get about 1hr to 1.5hr to do it. Like everyone says, not much up the top. Some good views at the top but quite a climb to get there. Some will struggle getting to the top. Takes about 25 - 45 mins to get there depending on your fitness levels

Does this tour include a place for us to store luggage? We are arriving in Naples by ferry from Capri and would go straight into this tour and when we return to Naples we'd board a train in late evening to go to Rome. Not sure what we would do with our luggage during the tour. Any sinight is appreciated.

There were a couple one the tour who had luggage and it was stored in the bus, butei suppose it depends on how much luggage is being carried.

My trip said English speaking guide. Try emailing TripAdvisor to see if they can locate the right trip for you. While I found it impossible to call someone, I found they do answer emails within a day. The hotel I stayed in also recommended World Tours for a trip TripAdvisor did not sponsor. I was quite happy with that trip too.
