About
The Territory of Paestum touches the most beautiful tracts of the Tirrenian Coast; the sea, the green belts and its fascinating traditions make this place a really interesting touristic destination. Here myth and legend coexist. The tourist who comes to Paestum has to visit the Archeological site where the Basilica, the biggest and the oldest among the three Temples (It dates back to 550 b.c), the Temple of Ceres, the Temple of Neptune, the Amphitheatre ( a Typical Roman Building), and the Forum are visible. In Paestum there is also a National Archeological Museum, which allows the visitors to retrace the Greek, Lucan and Roman History of the city. Here a unique example of Greek painting is kept: The Diver's Tomb. Another interesting place to visit is the Sanctuary of "Madonna Del Granato", where, even today, a lot of pilgrims from all over the Campania Region come to visit.
Regarding Gastronomy the most popular products are: Mozzarella produced in Paestum, Artichokes and olive oil.

- 1One of Italy’s most majestic sights lies, on the edge of a flat coastal plain, Paestum is a major ancient Greek city on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in Magna Graecia. After its foundation by Greek colonists under the name of Poseidonia it was eventually conquered by the Lucanians and later by the Romans. The Lucanians renamed it to Paistos and in turn the Romans gave the city its current name. The ruins of Paestum are notable for their three ancient Greek temples, dating back to the 6th century BC, which are in a very good state of preservation. Paestum is home to three magnificent Doric temples, which are thought to be dedicated to the city's namesake Poseidon (known to the Romans as Neptune), Hera and Ceres. The temples of Neptune and Hera are located next to each other at the Southern end of the site, while the smaller Temple of Ceres is at the Northern end.

The catacombs are a place like no other. We learned a lot during this tour. We also enjoyed learning about the Ancient Appian Way. These holy sites are not to be missed. The surroundings were beautiful and there was incredible artwork in the churches. I really got the most out of seeing the museums also which helped me to really understand what I was looking at, as they had incredible descriptions of things I never heard about before. Our guide, Francesco, was also really wonderful. On top of everything, he also ensured we were well fed with the most delicious specialties of the area! We had them all to ourselves and the experience was amazing. We saw so much with ease. The guides were warm, attentive, accommodating! San Giovanni Rotondo is Far from cities but reachable with public transportation. A beautiful place but we were there for 4-5hrs. A beautiful trip to the more rural Adriatic side of Italy. Two deeply moving spiritual sites that cannot be expressed with words. Francesco and Roberto took amazing care of us for the day and also sprinkled in some walks of the local towns along the way, local food (amazing arrosticini!!), and other surprises we appreciated.
