Answer: save yourself the trouble, pain & expense by paying €50 and a shuttle picks you up ( about 30-40 max ), delivers you to a port and a skilful captain shows you a side of the coast you won't see from the road . So relaxing!. The emerald sea! Allow 9am to 5.30pm, grab a pizza & hit the cot! Along the way see the island Rudolph Nureyev once owned, stopover at Positano for gelato, visit remote coves, see where the international cliff diving happens and swim, eat and admire the tall ship & deep ocean liner mooring off Amalfi. Booked this trip with Viator . Probably the best of three trips booked with Viator and all because of our wonderful guide ROBERTO. He was a walking encyclopaedia when it came to his knowledge of the area. He was also a dab hand at directing traffic when we were stuck in a traffic jam just outside Positano! We visited Positano which we were now familiar with having visited on an evening tour. it is a long walk to the beachside bars and back but not so noticeable if you take a leisurely walk through the shopping area. Be mindful of the shiny steps down,not the easiest to negotiate as you have two way traffic of people. Gorgeous views from the top of town. We then made our way to Amalfi where we had extra time.We opted to pay a small fee for a boat trip which highlighted the homes of the rich and famous and ,thanks to Roberto,the history of Amalfi itself.The trip ,which cost under 10 euros included a free packed lunch.Large roll and a bottle of water.which we received on our return from the boat trip. The final stop Ravello. Although we did not have a great deal of time here we paid the small fee of 5 euros to visit Villa Rufolo with its lovely gardens and infamous view that inspired Wagner. This trip is excellent value for money with the most stunning views of the Amalfi coast.Highly recommend.

This trip was run by Viator and pre-booked in the UK. If you can only do one trip during your time in Sorrento make it this one - it was one of the best trips that I have been on in any holiday. Hotel pick up and drop off, air conditioned coach, excellent driver and knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide. I learnt so much about the history and culture of the Amalfi coast and the drive was breathtaking. You get adequate time in Positano, Amalfi and Ravello for sightseeing and getting food and drinks. An additional highlight was the optional boat trip from Amalfi - for a cost of 11 or 12 euros it gave the most amazing views of the coastline and great photo opportunities. Great value full day out and amazing memories.

We went on a trip along the drive, I'm amazed moped driver wast killed, they ruin the ambiance by constantly weaving in and out of traffic as you go along. It is a pretty drive though with lots of pretty villages and towns along the way, we went to positana, and revello, it was a lovely clear day and the sea is amazing, I loved all the market gardener stalls with there huge lemons, tomatoes chillies etc
