This whole experience was way better than I expected! We startet at a local market, where they had the best fresh ingredients, then went to the kitchen to make two different raviolis and three different fettuccinis. We ended up staying for 7 hours just talking, drinking wine and eating our delicious pasta with the most authentic cook, Marco. Everything about it felt very safe and local, which made us feel as if he was one of our close friends. Besides from that, we actually learned a lot about cooking pasta and also the history of Rome and the rest of Italy.

Marco did an amazing job catering for us with his rich knowledge of Italian cuisine as well as a passion to prepare the best dishes his country has to offer. This was easily the best thing we did during our three days in rome. The wine selected was delicious and we didn't want to leave.

Marco was amazing, part chef part tour guide. Walking up to the market he was informing us of the local ruins and buildings. We had a quick walk through the market, as it was busy he went and got all the vegetables the Roman way (cutting the line). Once back at the kitchen he was very patient making sure we all made the pasta dough perfectly with enough violence. We all had a good chat while he prepared the other sauces. The pasta was pretty alright, but the sauces were amazing!!!

The entire activity was great and would do again if I ever came back to Rome.
Thank you Marco, from the Australian

A fantastic afternoon with Marco, laughing and learning the art of pasta. After a trip to the local market, where you can buy your own fresh produce or a cheap coffee, we returned to make pumpkin ravioli with butter-sage sauce and Bolognese. Marco was energetic and fun, and most importantly, a great host who kept the wine flowing. A brilliant end to our trip to Rome, thank you 😁

Marco has been amazing at teaching the italian way of making pasta and the sauces with his genuine and funny spirit. The walk to the market was very pleasant and we learned a lot about the Roman eating-culture. The glasses of wine and the (delicious) self-made pasta, made the whole event a great success. Grazie!

Marco was such a star- he taught us so many techniques. We actually made fresh pasta , learnt how to make pappardelle, fettucine, tortellini and ravioli!! He was so entertaining and also gave us a history tour!! I took my teen daughter and it was a great activity to bond with her . I know I am looking forward to making these recipes back home!!!

The march to the market is a total waste of time. It was not "a Guided Tour". We followed Marco like sheep to the market building. He left us there for 15min to go to the Supermarket over the road because not many stalls were open to buy the food needed. So what was the point?

There were 15 people booked on this course! No limit at all. One chap couldn't partake along with his family because he couldn't be squashed around the table which was grim. The kitchen is an active Hostel kitchen. It is not a teaching kitchen. The hygiene is left down to the last Backpacker who wiped it down, or cleaned their bowls. At our own discretion got up and wiped the table in front of us down. Three different travellers came in and cooked their food around us during the lesson.

My daughter felt faint and sick and had to leave to get fresh air because of the heat, stuffy kitchen and lack of food. A kind lady give her some food out of her bag because there was nothing else available. We still hadn't eaten at 4.30pm! It started at 11.30am!

The "enjoy local wine" was two glasses of 100ml over 5.1/2 hrs. Two bottles between fourteen people.

You have to sit for 30-45 min and watch Marco prepare all the veg for a bolognese for x15. Don't know why this couldn't have been done before hand. You don't actually do anything, just watch.

You make the pasta which is fun but took literally 1hr from start to finish. Saying that there were only two knives for x15 of us to use to cut out everyones pasta into spaghetti, linguine, etc. Marco was running between rooms collecting bowls, forks and plates for us to use. He rubbed each one down with one paper towel before handing them out.

Then everyones pasta is collected and cooked in one pan. So you eat everyones attempts, not specifically yours. By this time we had already been there FIVE hours!

We ate because we were starving and all felt sick. We left as soon as we had finished and that was at 4.45pm. The day was gone.

We walked the 25min back to our hotel and within a few hours my husband was very, very ill with food poisoning. He spent the next three days on bread and water walking around Rome feeling weak and sick.

So, No, don't waste your precious holiday time in this beautiful city in a Hostel kitchen. Learn to make Pasta at home and enjoy Rome for the stunning city it is.

Hi Samantha, I'm Marco. It's nice to talk to you again. I'm really sorry to know how you felt regarding the Pasta Cooking Class at Kitchen of Mamma but you could've told me about it from the beginning of the class and I would've done anything I could to make you feel comfortable and happy with the activity. I like to hear my students' opinion and you seemed satisfied with everything during the class. Well, as you said, it was a group of 15 people taking the class but we didn't receive any other complaints about food poisoning. Maybe your husband was allergic to one of the ingredients and didn't tell us? We're sorry to read he felt so bad. Also, the wine was not part of the activity! I decided to buy some as a nice treat so that we could all share some glasses together while cooking and getting to know each other. Going to the market, buying the ingredients and making the sauce is part of the activity as I want to make sure we are all cooking with fresh ingredients and not using something made the day before. I would also like to let you know that the person who could not join the class with his family hadn't made the reservation and since we were already a big group he understood and decided by himself not to participate. I apologize once again if your experience was not as expected. Thank you for leaving a feedback as it helps to improve the activities we offer.

The pasta cooking class we did with Marco was definitely the best experience we had in Rome. It was such fun going to the market and picking out the ingredients. The pasta we made tasted amazing and there was plenty of wine for everyone! Marco was an excellent teacher, he was very funny and helpful. I would definitely recommend this experience for anyone looking to do a cooking class in Rome - great value for money!!

Marco was the instructor for the class I took and I can honestly say that I couldn't imagine a way to make the experience more enjoyable. The group met at 11:30 and Marco immediately began introducing himself person by person as we waited for everyone to arrive. He was very friendly and instantly put everyone at ease. We walked over to a local market and bought the ingredients for the dishes - as we walked he gave us historical information about the places we walked through which was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Through the entire class which in our case lasted almost 6 hours, he was friendly, patient and kept the whole group laughing. Our class was comprised of a wide range of people (a couple kids and their parents, some students studying abroad, and 5-6 late 20's to early 30's), everyone had a great time. The pasta turned out amazing and the wine flowed the whole time (with soft drinks for the kids). This was a highlight of my trip and I'm so glad I chose to sign up. Well worth the time and financial investment. Ciao Marco!

What a wonderful way to complete our visit to Rome . Our chef Marco led us to a market for us to wander in whilst the cooking ingredients were bought. Then the fun began as we made our pasta . The conversation and wine flowed , as Marco told us tips about Italian cooking . Wow the pasta was delicious- never tasted better.
Highly recommended- thanks Marco !
