- faincut0 contributionsA Moving Journey Through Time: Welcome to Rome's Highs and LowsWelcome to Rome offers a unique and immersive introduction to the Eternal City's history. The highlight is a 30-minute film projected onto a detailed topographical model of Rome, tracing its evolution from ancient times to today. Pros: The main film is captivating and emotionally powerful. I nearly teared up watching Rome's grand history unfold. Excellent context for first-time visitors to Rome. Friendly and accommodating staff - they even let us in early! The whole experience takes about an hour, perfect for a pre-sightseeing orientation. Cons: Ticket price is a bit steep (18 euros for adults). Smaller 3D exhibits of landmarks like St. Peter's Basilica and the Roman Forum weren't as engaging as the main film. My 8-year-old lost interest in these smaller displays. Tips: Visit early in your trip to Rome - it really enhances appreciation of the sites you'll see later. The main film has audio guides in multiple languages - make sure to get one in your preferred language. Plan to spend about an hour here. If visiting with kids, be prepared that they might get restless during the smaller exhibits. The topographical model and film beautifully illustrate how Rome was once the heart of the world. It's a poignant reminder of the transient nature of power and glory, showing how even the mightiest empires fade with time. While not perfect, Welcome to Rome provides valuable historical context that will enrich your exploration of the city. It's more than just learning facts - it's about feeling the weight of Rome's incredible history.Written 24 August 2024

- SophieT17100 contributionsNot really worth the price tagSmall museum simply consists of one 25 minute film covering the history of Rome, plus another 5 or 6 mini dioramas of roman buildings enhanced with projections. The visuals are cool but the content is mostly about the building process or identifying the buildings, but little about people's actual lives. The overview film was okay. Not really worth the price tag I don't think.Written 24 October 2023
- jimmcl60 contributionsExcellent value and experienceFabulous introduction to the history, architecture, geology, and geography of Rome. Not to be missed. Excellent value for anyone probably 10 and up.Written 9 May 2023
- mike20168520 contributionsBetter ways to spend your time (and money) in RomeSmall models with holograms totally underwhelming. The film (grand finale) was ok but in essence a film about the history of Rome. Very expensive for a one hour experience some of which was spent waiting for a availability of exhibits and the cinema to fill up. Mythos Mozart (a similar attraction) in Vienna blows this out of the water !! The only thing on our trip we regret wasting the time and money on.Written 26 April 2023
- pmp0070 contributionsDo not include this in your Rome to Do ListTerrible experience. It is like a garage (excess...) with 4 separate by curtains rooms with small videos on Rome monuments. Then a 10 minutes or something cinema video (which is the best of all). But buying tickets is very disorganized. We had to wait for our time slot and then a 15 minutes delay. So more than 1 hour waiting for this waist of time. I wouldn't reccomend to anyone. It is a disaster and an expensive one. Doesn't worth the money.Written 14 April 2023
- X2338JFmargaretp0 contributionsNice for kidsThis presents several 3D models of ancient architecture with overlays that give a good idea of how things developed. the second half is a video which is also interesting giving a brief history of Rome. It is a wonderful way to give kids a basic understanding of what they will be visiting - so has to be done in the beginning of your trip. We booked with our hotel because the site wanted way too much personal info which we found bizarre.Written 7 March 2023
- Nicola_W_01080 contributionsAverage experience overallEnjoyed the cinema section - the effects and information were good. The other exhibits weren’t as interesting - use of holograms were clever to showcase how some of the sites would have originally looked. However the information contained too much historical jargon which affected our enjoyment. I would say you need some understanding of Rome prior to visiting otherwise the information is too complex. Toilet standards were not acceptable - lack of loo roll and no soap in the ladies’ so clearly toilet checks weren’t being undertaken.Written 22 February 2023

A nice welcome break from the heat. For €14 you can come into a nice air conditioned space to learn all about the history of Rome from it's inception. The cinema room is nice and 3D movie was great. The 3D models and animations were excellent. If anything we just wanted more of them as there are so many other buildings to talk about.

Such a wonderful, visual and immersive way to introduce you to a new city. I honestly think more world-class cities need museums exactly like this. You get a comprehensive history, layout, geography, and culture all in a short 1 or 2 hour experience.
The museum is divided into roughly 4 or 5 rooms and a movie theatre. They all depict, through use of miniature models and projectors, the development over many centuries of Rome from a few modest hilltop villages of different tribes to the cosmopolitan city it is today. It paints a vivid picture of a city sprawling across 7 hills, perfectly situated on the mighty Tiber river.
It also highlights a few spots in the city such as the Roman Forum and St. Peter's Basilica.
I also think this would be a great museum if you have little kids with you. It's educational, but extremely captivating as well. I assure you they would not get bored, especially during the theatre experience.
I would love to see this company expand into other cities. I think it would be a great benefit educationally, and for the tourist industry.
The staff was very friendly and incredibly helpful.

This is a hidden jewel in Rome. I highly recommend that you visit this place before going into the streets of Rome; you'll be equipped with the historical events that took place centuries before. The "informational rooms " are small and last 3-7 minutes. However, the auditorium lssts 30 minutes, has comfortable seats, AC and an interactive screen that will display "The Rome Experience". I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation and learned so much about Rome that I didn't know. Great place to visit!

This was my second summer in a row visiting this experience. Last year my wife and I used it as a familiarization of the city, and this year when my parents visited Rome it was the perfect way to do the same. The staff are courteous and helpful, and the facilities are perfect for an easy, comfortable experience to get an overview of Rome’s history, architecture, and major characters/sites. I would definitely recommend to all hoping to spend about an hour learning about the city, families, and first-time visitors. There are restrooms inside as well.

I've always been a fan of ancient rome but always struggled to visualise the beauty of the buildings from that era when looking at the ruins. This experience was ideal for that, providing models of the well known buildings from the time and fantastic knowledge to go with it.
100% reccomended as a great intro for the city to provide a greater understanding for when you see them in person..... plus even my wife enjoyed it who hates history, so that says a lot.

Insanely worth it. Fascinating use of miniatures, sound and technology. In just over an hour they take you through the history of Rome in stunning visuals. It ends in a theatrical experience that is so immersive and compliments the other exhibitions processing it. The cost is low and the staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. This is the first thing you should do when you touch down.

Amazing tour for our 10 and 12 year olds. Marco was excellent, such fun with the kids, and informative for all of us. Definitely the highlight of a brilliant Rome weekend. If you have kids of similar ages, I’d thoroughly recommend buying a time scavenger hunt book too (eg off Amazon). It keeps the kids entertained while sightseeing across the city.

Very interesting demonstrations about how Rome would’ve looked in the past. The 3d modelling works so well in showing how the ancient ruins would’ve looked at the time.
Very helpful staff member guided us from room to room for each show. Then the final one in the cinema room was pretty amazing.

This exhibit was very informative and entertaining. Our family the 3D overview of the history of Rome. We visited on our last day and it really tied together a lot of the sights that we visited. It was a bit expensive for a visit that only lasted about 45 minutes.

When I go to pre-purchase tickets there are no showtimes given to choose from. How does it work? Just show up and wait? Thanks
Written 29 August 2022
Hi! Yes, I believe you just have to show up and wait. I didn't buy my tickets ahead of time, but essentially all the shows are on a loop. The smaller exhibits replay every 3 or 4 minutes, while the theatre experience lasts about 20-30 minutes and replays regularly as well. I was able to do everything in the hour or so that I was there.
