    Palazzo Colonna - Galleria Colonna

    With this 3-hour visit to Palazzo Colonna and the private apartments of Princess Isabella, you will learn about the history of one of the richest and noblest families in Rome, which has occupied this neighborhood for eight centuries. The palace today dates back to the seventeenth century Baroque, and it will be the Gande Central Hall to welcome you in the magnificent mansion, on the ceiling the most important event for this family, the victory of the condottiere Marco Antonio Colonna at the Battle of Lepanto is celebrated in a large fresco. The hall is completely covered with beautiful works, there are Roman statues, paintings, precious objects. You will find yourself in the middle of a succession of rooms and salons, perfectly adapted to organize great celebrations, then and now. Many of the furnishings, such as consoles and mirrors, are still original. Among the works still hanging on the walls are those by Guercino, Salvator Rosa, Jacopo Tintoretto, Francesco Salviati, Guido Reni, Giovanni Lanfranco, Carracci and others. The tour ends with a visit to the apartment, which takes its name from the woman who lived there until 1984, the year of her death, Princess Isabelle Sursock Colonna, wife of Prince Marcantonio VII Colonna. The princess was a cultured and refined woman and gave receptions to the palace for Roman high society. The apartment occupies the fifteenth-century wing of the building, which included the palace residence of Pope Martino V Colonna, you will be able to admire frescoes by Pinturicchio of the vault of the Sala della Fontana and especially Sala del Vanvitelli, so named for the remarkable collection of 37 views of the Dutch painter. In this private and opulent atmosphere, where furniture and related period features are still preserved, you will seem to go back in time, to the center of exclusive and unique events, whose guests were the most influential people of European society ..
