- 1Castel Sant’Angelo was originally built as a monumental tomb for the Emperor Hadrian. Already during the Late Roman Empire it became a stronghold for its size and strategic location to the north of the city, where most of the invasions came from. It was then turned into an impregnable papal fortress during the middle ages and improved all throughout the renaissance times, featuring a large garrison, prisons and papal apartments. This castle is directly connected to the Vatican by the means of a covered passageway called “Passetto di Borgo”. The pope would use this gateway to take refuge in the Castle. The papal apartments were specifically designed to make the pope comfortable during his potential stay in the fortress. The variety of purposes and its continuity of use throughout the centuries makes Castle Sant’Angelo one of the most charming and iconic monuments of the Eternal City. By visiting this place, you can basically enjoy the whole history of Rome, all in one go.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- GlasgowDiva0 contributionsVery Interesting TourA great tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill, with a very knowledgeable guide, Arnjo. It was interesting and our guide made it all easy to understand. Time flew by, and I would thoroughly recommend this tour - it was terrific. What I would say is, this tour isn’t suitable for people who have walking difficulties. The Colosseum itself has an elevator to help people, but the remainder of the tour has a lot of tricky terrain to walk over and hilly in parts. Please also remember photo identification for access to the Colosseum.Written 18 January 2025
- 223mrsm0 contributionsCity walkers are fantasticThis was one of the highlights of our stay in Rome. My sister and I are ‘more mature’ and our tour guide was fantastic with us making sure we were managing stairs and waiting for us when we were a bit slow. City Walkers were brilliant can’t recommend them enough. Thank youWritten 17 January 2025
- yingchenh20250 contributionscustomer focused, highly recommendedWhen I booked the tour, I put the wrong date of birth for one kid which he is not able to get in. It is hard to leave him alone. The lady who was responsible for checking in kept communiting with the ticket office. After the tour started, she resolved the issue and we can join. She ran with us to meet the tour guide. It is great to see they are so customer foused. The tour guide is very knowledgeable and explained well. We forgot her name. I highly recommend this tour if you are in Rome.Written 16 January 2025

- 192marshaf0 contributionsGroup tour not worth the spend. The accent made it difficult to understand the guide. If the tour covered history, I missed it. Either purchase a private tour or buy tickets with the audio guide. 2 thumbs down on the group tour.Written 3 January 2025

- _ukaszn7390 contributionsJag känner mig luradReview of “The Walker Tours” My wife and I had a deeply disappointing experience with The Walker Tours. We booked tickets to St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, paying an outrageous €78 per person (€156 total) for tickets and an audio guide. However, this turned out to be an absolute scam. Lack of Clear Instructions The confirmation email asked us to arrive early but failed to provide a specific location. This is a critical omission given the enormous crowds of pilgrims and tourists around the Basilica. We spent over 30 minutes in line, entered the Basilica, and—shockingly—discovered that no one checks tickets because the entrance is free! Misleading Practices After realizing this, I tried to use the so-called “audioguide” service included in the ticket price. The email stated that the tickets and audioguides would be provided at the meeting point, but no staff from Walker Tours was present, and no one at the Basilica recognized the company or their tickets. I even went to the official audioguide distribution point at the Basilica, but the staff there were unable to assist me because they had no knowledge of Walker Tours. Unresponsive Customer Service I called their office multiple times for help, but no one picked up. When I later contacted them via email to request a refund, their response was dismissive and unhelpful. They claimed that I should have gone to the meeting point (which they failed to specify in any meaningful way). They also hid behind their “no refunds” policy, which customers are forced to accept when purchasing tickets. Insulting Justifications To add insult to injury, they claimed that “perhaps some days the monuments have free entry.” As a tour company selling tickets, shouldn’t they know this beforehand? This is outright deception. Conclusion I feel completely scammed. The Walker Tours charged €156 for something that is entirely free and failed to deliver the promised service. Their lack of transparency, accountability, and customer support is appalling. I will never use their services again and strongly urge others to avoid this company. Their practices are misleading and exploitative. Rating: 1/5 (only because 0 isn’t an option)Written 2 January 2025
- adamgI1085PN0 contributionsFantastic TourRome is always a fantastic city to visit and this time we did the guided tour of the Colosseum and the Palladium. It was amazing, but it was our guide Briken who made it extra special. You could tell he is fascinated by history and was able to provide in depth answers to all our questions - I'm a bit of a history buff myself. He was also very entertaining. Thank you Briken and City Walkers Tours for such a great experience. Top marks. I would recommend this tour to anybody looking for a great day out.Written 1 January 2025
- Y5288PTdanielp0 contributionsInformative and humorous to her of the ColosseumOur guide David was excellent. He kept things light and humorous, gave us interesting information, but did not go so deep as to become overwhelming. I recommend this tour if you’d like a fairly quick but insightful look into the history of the Colosseum and Roman in general.Written 30 December 2024

She was so knowledgeable, funny, passionate about history, and even gave us her grandmothers lasagna recipe at the end of the tour as a keepsake! 🥰 it was the best to get the historical context but also have time for pictures and some fun facts! Would highly recommend!Written 30 December 2024
- rosiehall560 contributionsRome walking tourThe tour was good and ok. Guide spoke good english and she knew the history or the place. Views were amazing! Loved seeing all the dark tunnels. Gorgous sunshine all day beating down on us. There was things that i didn't know. If i am do this tour again i think i would ask them if the guide would tell us their own stories of what happened there. 8/10 thank you loved my visit to the Colossero.Written 29 December 2024

This was such an amazing and well guided tour. There is no possible way that you would be able to go into depth and the historical significants behind the castle without a tour guide, and it surprised us how overlooked and peaceful this castle was in Rome.
Our tour guide (Lorenzo) was fabulous, fluent with English, and so cheerful. Our family was so happy to have him and because of him we all left smarter and more knowledgeable than before. Overall we highly recommend this tour because of the memories that you will make, the sights to see, and the views the castle has to offer.

Lorenzo was a fantastic tour guide. My wife and I were the only ones on the tour, which gave us the ability to ask lots of questions and have a more personalized experience. He bought us both a cup of coffee from the cafe near the top. We had a chance to chat with and get to know our tour guide better while sipping our coffee and enjoying the view.

Very interesting and pleasant visit. A special thank you to our guide Mrs. Antonella Fusco, a very professional and prepared person. Thanks to his vocation for transmitting his knowledge, he was able to attract the interest of three friends who, at times, were not particularly dedicated to the necessary concentration. Thank you!!!
