Our group included owners of Italian restaurant in U.S., who considered the trip as R&D.

If you enjoy eating and cooking Italian food, this tour is well worth the price. Very close and vivid encounters with the sources of key ingredients.

The highlight of our Italy trip!
Nov 2019 • Couples
We wanted a private tour and that is what was delivered! We drove from Bologna and met our guide, Georgia, as arranged. We had such an enjoyable experience as she led us through the beautiful hills of Parma to the family owned farm and factory for the cheese and prosciutto tours. Her passion for Parma was evident in her stories and her knowledge of both processes was truly amazing.
We had a wonderful lunch where we enjoyed conversation with Georgia as well as one of the best meals while in Italy! The small family restaurant made us feel special and welcome with prosciutto tastings, baskets of hot fried bread, homemade pasta, delicious deserts and the local wine!

We then drove to Modena for the balsamic tour, which was also very interesting. The tastings were a bonus on all three tours.

Highly recommend this private tour, it was the highlight of our trip to Italy!

Great local tour!
Oct 2019 • Couples
We really enjoyed our tour to the local cheese making farm, balsamic farm and prosciutto factory. Our favourite of the three was the cheese making farm. The guide there Roberta was so friendly and very passionate about dairy farming and cheese making. We were fascinated by the sheer amount of work involved to make Parmigiano-Reggiano. We got to sample 1, 2 and 3 year old Parmigiano-Reggiano. At the balsamic tasting we got to try 12, 20, and 25 year balsamic vinegar. The process is very interesting to learn. At the last stop the prosciutto factory it we got a tour of the production and got to sample different kinds of prosciutto. Our driver was so friendly and kind and we had a great time with our group of 3 couples! I suggest having a larger breakfast as lunch consists of a plate of prosciutto, wine and a few cookies. I would have liked to be able to buy a sandwich or something more for lunch. Other than that a fantastic tour!

Interesting tour!
Oct 2019
It was quite an interesting morning tour. It englobes a good idea of what makes it the Food valley. Don't expect it to be a very deep dive into a culinary experience! However, it is a very fun and enjoyable one that I truly recommend.

Great tour in Parma
Sep 2019
We were very excited for the Parmigiano-Reggiano and Prosciutto tour. We booked this tour through the TripAdvisor website few month before our trip to Italy. The tour guide was on time on the designated location. Everything on this tour was amazing but the traditional balsamic vinegar was a surprise! We learned so much on this tour and it is a must do tour in Parma!

Great Organisation
Sep 2019
We took the Highlander Tour in September 2019 and it was better than our expectation. The website is easy to negotiate and the follow up is fantastic including an emailed schedule of activities. We were with 6 others in a comfortable people mover. The tours of parmagiano, balsamic and prosciutto were guided by knowledgeable, female members of the family in each case. They all spoke excellent English.

A trip to Parma without an experience like this would be wasted. We can not speak highly enough about the Food Valley Travel experience.

Really fun tour
1st off, Deborah did a really good job providing the factual info on the 2 locations plus adding her spin on the content. You definitely pack a lot of travel into the overall day seeing the craftsmanship of each of the providers. The fact that each business was family-run added to the enjoyment of the overall tour. Our favorite was the Parmesan portion of the tour as we got to see each step of the process and the cheese master interacting with us as he conducted each step added to the fun.

A few things that would make the tour even better. The 1st is the meeting spot. Unless you are staying in town, maybe adding some parking suggestions for folks staying outside of town. The 2nd suggestion would be to add a bit more bulk or inclusion in the overall process during the balsamic stage. The lady who conducted the tour did a really good job with the family background but we missed a bit of the essence of the overall process since we did not witness any of it, just received the oratory description. The other 2 parts of the tour really went in-depth in the process.

Overall really enjoyable. Keep the tasting stages with wine as that was a must.

Dear John, thank you so much for your kind review. We will keep in mind you very precious suggestions!.. About the balsamic: differently from the other 2 productions that you have seen, this product is not made everyday but only once a year.. than it's only a matter of time.. this is the amazing point about it, that's why you didn't see any manual making of.. Best Regards.

This tour had everything - balsamic vinegar, Parma reggiano cheese, and traditional balsamic! My mom and I stopped overnight in Parma and are so glad we booked this trip, it was the highlight of our time in Parma. Our tour guide and the staff at each location were so knowledgeable and friendly. Conveniently located and transportation included!

Amazing balsamic and prosciutto tours, meh on the parmesan
Jun 2019 • Family
Good things first -- we loved the tour of the acetaia (balsamic vinegar house) and the salumificio (prosciutto/parma ham house). The tour guides at those houses spoke fantastic English and shared some wonderful details about their art, and the tours consisted only of the people in our group. Get excited for the balsamic vinegar tasting and the prosciutto lunch, complete with little desserts, wine, and water! We enjoyed these 2 visits so much that I bumped up this rating from Average to Very Good.

The parmesan tour left a bit to be desired. I think this caseificio (cheese making house) accommodates more tours, or is easier to find, because this part of the tour had so many guests from other groups or walk-ins that it was hard to hear what the tour guides were saying. She had to speak once in Italian and a 2nd time in English, so with little kids clambering around and cheesemaking going on the background it was a little difficult to hear everything.

Lastly, I was expecting a guide to be with us on the car ride, telling us about the Parma region, answering questions, and explaining the upcoming visits. However, our group had one driver who shuttled us from place to place and did just that. I think the experience would have been much richer if a cultural guide were included on the car rides.

All in all, I think this tour is good value if you don't have a car, or want to avoid driving on Italian roads. It runs 9:00-14:00 (2 PM for Americans) so it's nice and concise. The balsamic vinegar and prosciutto parts of the tour were fantastic, the parmesan bit not as much. That said, it's possible that the day we went (mid-June) was just exceptionally busy since it was the beginning of tourist season.

Thank you very much for your detailed review. We are happy that you enjoyed the experience.. Probably at the dairy it was a very "hot" day so sorry about that.. we hope that, even if it was a little crowded, you apreciated the explanation of the "making of" this amazing and unique product.. hope to see you again in the Food Valley to discover more!..

Great tour, lots of good food
Jun 2019 • Couples
The tour was great, although do not expect to have a tour guide with you during the whole time. They will assign someone to drive a mini-van for you to the three different locations, where there are local tour guides / owners who will tell you about their trade. There was no talking in between stops / during the drive- we tried to ask a question but I'm not sure if the driver understood English because he didn't respond.

It was a small group - only 4 of us in total. Also very efficient - we got to see all sites in 5-6 hours and the only one that was this short instead of a whole day tour that was almost 2x the price for similar visits too.

The Parmigiano Reggiano and Parma Ham tours were our favorite. Unfortunately, the Balsamic Vinegar visit left much to be desired. The owner didn't seem very interested in telling us a lot about the craft, and the tastings felt very stingy.

Overall still a good experience, but wish we had a better visit for the balsamic vinegar production.
