Our family of 5 climbed the stairs and loved the experience of being on top of Milan. No issues at all.

Tickets did not work.
Jan 2020 • Friends
Hello,

I booked with TripAdvisor yesterday to see the Milan Cathedral. However when I tried to go in the people at the ticket box said there was an error in the reference number that you gave me for the tickets. They told me to contact you and get a refund because they tickets are no good. I ended up having to buy another ticket when I got to the Milan Cathedral.

Best,

Ticket of the roof was included in the tour of the cathedral, no worries about poor weather the ticket is good for 3 days to see all the parts of the Cathedral, the under cathedral area, the Crypt and the roof. Best time to see the roof is either the early morning or the late afternoon otherwise it gets very hot up there. The 35 Euro price was well worth all I saw and it spanned two days to see it all and not get exhausted looking and reading all the history of the cathedral.

Iconic Cathedral
When you think Milan you see the cathedral. Lovely building on a grand scale and the attached piazza. Great place to congregate. However lots of sellers.

If you're in Milan, you must visit Duomo. If the weather is nice definitely visit the roof top. The structure is amazing and the views are pretty nice too. Take some time just to marvel at the carvings and statues.

Great view of Milan, and Hidden Art of the Duomo
Mar 2019
More impressive than you might think.

You go most of the way up in an elevator, from there you have stairs, slanted roofs and reasonably good parths from one section to another on the rooftop. It is quite a walk, to cover it all is fairly easy. There are other stairs, one long one, from the lower buttresses to the central basilica roof.

These could be difficult for some. but I it's worth the time even if the stairways prove intimidating to. At the top, fairly flat sections offer nearly a 360 degree view.

What you get is an appreciation of the hidden cathedral. The buttresses are largely hidden from the ground along with much of artful sculptur, beautifully detailed and ornate stone work. Some critics consider the building gaudy and overwrought, but it's still gorgeous.

I was 75 when I last walked on the roof in 2019 but even with a cane I managed without to much difficulty. There were a couple of places I avoided, anxiety about careless people. Remember if you cover most of the roof you must return the way you came.

YOu may be able to buy tickets on the spot. If not, ask your hotel or contact a guide service. It's worth a modest premium. We use walking tour guides in many places and they're not that expensive. The roof tickets were included as part of a walking tour guide through other areas.

Wonderful evening experience on the rooftops.
Went with my wife at around 17:15 and the views were amazing. The lighting was particularly good at this time and we managed to take really good pictures. Spent around 25 minutes on the rooftops. The climb was not so difficult, we are 30 years old.

Very recommended.

All Saints Day visit
Our train from Rome was delayed for 30 minutes, but we still able to visit this historical site in time. The lines for the roof top was long, but it moved rather quickly in an orderly fashion. The climbing of the stairs was not bad at all; not for folks with claustrophobia. Enjoyable visit on a holiday.
