Highlights
  • Experience a dose of culture in Venice with an opera performance
  • Go inside a 15th-century palace and see its beautiful salons
  • Choose between popular operas like the 'Barber of Seville' or 'Rigoletto'
  • Follow the cast from room to room with each new scene or act
What to expect
  • The renowned performers of Musica a Palazzo carry on the historic tradition of traveling opera with unique, intimate performances in the luxurious surroundings of Venice’s Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto. The elegant salons of this 15th-century palace have been restored to their original splendor and provide a historic backdrop for scenes from Italian operatic classics. Choose from adapted versions of 'The Barber of Seville,' 'La Traviata,' or 'Rigoletto' (see Itinerary below for details). On the night of the performance, make your way to the historic palazzo in central Venice, which overlooks the Grand Canal. Upon arrival, you have the option to purchase a libretto to read a translation of the words in your selected opera. Then, take your seat among the small audience and admire the ornate surroundings and period furnishings bathed in candlelight. When the show begins, you are immersed in the sights and sounds of arias, duets, and live accompaniment as the performers enact scenes near the place where you sit. Instead of a traditional set change, get up and move to a different salon along with the ensemble with each new scene or act. This lends an interactive element to the show and allows you to explore several different salons. Toast your evening out with a glass of Prosecco, juice, or soda during one of two brief intermissions. At the end of the experience, you have a chance to buy a CD or DVD of the opera.

A wonderful experience
Attended this Opera with my mother and it was wonderful. Moving from room to room provides a unique experience and the palazzo was beautiful. I didn’t necessarily expect that the performances would be too-notched but they really were! If you enjoy opera you will enjoy this. If someone in your group isn’t a huge fan of opera, this experience and the beautiful location will ensure that they enjoy the evening as well.

One of my favorite travel experiences to date!
Jan 2020
We visited the Musica a Palazzo while in Venice over the Winter Holiday. We try to take in a cultural experience in every city we travel to and given our last experience (we fell asleep while listening to the relaxing orchestra in the fort in Salzburg) thought an opera that allowed us to move into different rooms as we followed the story would be sure to keep our group alert and engaged (2 teenagers and 4 adults). Not only was the experience of watching an opera in a Venice Palazzo unbelievable, the performances were amazing and truly magical. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Venice!

Fantastic show
I'm a huge fan of opera so was a little unsure of this interpretation, but it was a wonderful show and the fact that each act was in a different room added to the ambience! Absolutely loved it!

A unique experience

An intimate and immersive way to enjoy a performance, and experience the unique architecture and culture of Venice. A little off the beaten path (okay, we got lost) but worth the adventure. Some lovely voices, too.

A Traviata to die for
May 2019
This was such a special experience, moving to a different room in the Palazzo for each act. The three singers were more than equal to the demands of their roles. We are confirmed opera buffs and enjoyed the performance hugely.

Better than Venise
Jan 2020 • Family
Don’t get me wrong: I love Venice. But this representation was just pure magic. We were only around 70 people, and the musicians and singers were in the same room than us. They’re very close to us, and interact with the public. We go from one room to the other during the opera, discovering more places of the palazzo.

We came for “Rigoletto”, and that was so extraordinary that I cried almost all the time. I love opera and I can say that I’ve not been that amazed for almost 25 years. My daughters are less used to opera and I wanted to go there with them as an introduction to it. Well, that was a success. They enjoyed it a lot. If you’ve kids and want something different, don’t miss it. For me it was the “point d orgue” of our trip to Venice. One should go to Venice just for that.

Good fun but acting better the singing
Sep 2019
This is indeed an unusual opera experience but with limitations. up close, intimate, & interesting to go from one room to the other. Of course the opera is truncated/adapted to be suitable for performance by just a few key singing characters (4 in this case). It's anup-close opera experience , performed in salons of small proportion relative to any opera house, but for us the singers over-sung / were too in-yer-face for the environment. There was little beauty or subtlety in their performances. The voices seemed too big in volume for the environment, too used to big auditoriums perhaps, and sadly not the youngest of voices. The environment would so suit younger more delicate/beautiful voices in keeping with the elegant surroundings. So all in all it was good fun, entertaining, but not the most musically rewarding experience.

Incredible performance and immersive experience
Apr 2019
This performance was breathtatking, even if you don't speak Italian. The print the summary of the story in the program which helps to follow along with the storyline if need be. We loved how we felt part of each new scene by being in the room. It was a true immersive experience. I highly reccomend as a must see/ do during your stay in Venice.

A great way to see opera
Dec 2019 • Solo
I really enjoyed moving from room to room for each new scene. It allowed you to appreciate the beautiful old building you were in and also added intimacy to the performances. The musicians were excellent too.
