To All World Travelers; We just returned from Storyland’s Great Italian Cities tour. If you have been reading the previous lengthy reviews that give high praise and enjoyable accounts of this tour package, all I can do is reaffirm all of them. For those racking their brains trying to decide which tour company offers the most “bang for your buck” and best way to experience Italy for the first time...then quit looking. You just found that ace-in-the-hole that hits the jackpot. From the selection of cities to experience to the tour captain that provided everything one needed before they even had to ask... this journey of discovery was more than my family could have imagined. As the previous reviews have teased readers with the surprises that occur but aren’t mentioned in the brochure...I too will honor that discretion. But I will tell you that everyday our tour captain had something up her sleeve that pleasantly surprised us. I’m not familiar with every tour captain that Story employs, but Ryane Moates has to be one of the best in the business. Always ahead of the curve for what is needed and always exuberayting an energetic passion for Italy... Ryane’s million dollar smile and infectious chipper greetings gave us all a needed burst of energy after a day of touring. As Story advises, a comfortable pair of shoes is vital...but for me being 20 years younger would have also been a benefit. The tours were challenging but the guides were patient by letting the slowest among us set the pace. The rest of the day was left up to us, whether to stroll on our own or just relax in the warm sun. This “time off” during the tour let each person decide what to do. Ryane gave interesting information and detailed directions to anything that might be of interest. We did take advantage of some of the add-on excursions that were available. The cooking class and the vintage Land Rover tour of the Chianti region were well worth the time and money. I could go on at length about every step of this adventure, but nothing will do it any justice than to actually live it for oneself. Adding the Amalfi cost option at the end was the vacation after the vacation that put a beautiful finishing touch to the entire experience. To Mark Story and his band of merry “story tellers”... thanks for the memories!

Story Land and Sea...the Real Story!!
I wrote this review almost 6 years ago after our trip to Italy. I now see that there is a place for reviews for this company. The company was then called Queenslander...but so much of this still rings true today. We recently have booked a trip to Australia and New Zealand with Story-and we are sure that our experience will be perfect!! This forum post is intended for people who are looking for a tour experience of Italy. I spent a year researching Italy, this company, other tour groups, and continued researching almost a year after I booked. We just returned a week ago, and I promised to give back to the Trip Advisor community by posting a review with specifics so that others have knowledge of Queenslander Tours to aid people in making a decision. It will be a very long, specific review. There were absolutely no financial surprises on this trip! We booked the Deluxe package and added the Amalfi Extension. We came a day early, and stayed a day late…and are super glad that we made both of those decisions. Other additions that we added were transfers to/from the airports, the Uffizi in Florence, ferry to Capri, Pompei guided tour, and our flights. All breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 6 dinners were included in our cost. On the included dining nights appetizers were ordered for the table, and then we each ordered from the menu. The wine and limoncello flowed freely all night, and I never saw any attempt to slow it down. Most nights that we did not have an included dinner our tour captain invited us to join her for dinner at our own costs. Generally we went, as did many others in our group. Mark Story, the owner of Queenslander oversees a very organized/logically planned program. All of our hotels (details later) were in the center of the action and very lovely. All luggage was moved seamlessly from place to place. The earliest time we left in the morning was 8AM…very different from other tour companies that I had researched. A few times during our travels it rained, and Queenslander picked up the taxi cost. The tour had a great blend of included tour time, and free time to explore on our own. Generally hubby took a one hour nap every night before dinner to reenergize!! We had a slight problem when QLT booked our flights and a spelling error occurred. It was caught immediately by Queenslander, but Air Canada would not deal with it until 72 hours before travel. (We had booked last December). 72 hours prior Ron Gholston had to end up rebooking the entire flight for a change fee of almost $400. Queenslander paid that without a question, and Ron handled everything very professionally. This was the type of customer service that we encountered every time we contacted Queenslander. Jodie Hedrick was our Tour Captain. There were only 16 of us in the group. We all came from very diverse backgrounds and got along famously. Jodie was such a caring, knowledgeable person, and was gifted at working with many different personalities. Everyone felt very special on this trip. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to travel with such a travel enthusiast. Her enthusiasm was infectious. VENICE: This was our favorite city of the trip. Private water taxi was the transfer, with a greeter to meet us at the airport. We stayed at Hotel Saturnia & International. We had a huge room. The hotel is very close to Piazza San Marco. Included tours: Grand Canal, Piazza San Marco, Basillica San Marco, Gondola Ride, Doge’s Palace, Bridge of Sighs, and a water taxi to visit of the Island of Murano. In addition, we independently visited the Campanile, the Opera House, the amazing Rialto market, and walked miles and miles getting lost in Venice and loving every second of our experience!! FLORENCE: We arrived via the Silver Bullet fasttrain. Our hotel was Helvetia & Bristol which was a quick walk to the Duomo. Included tours: Duomo, Galleria dell’Accademia (David…the most impressive thing I have ever seen!!), and the Basillica di Santa Croce. Independently we went to the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi and the Market. CORTONA and the Tuscany Region: We traveled here by small bus and stopped at San Gimignano for a few hours. This is a very cute, medieval town, but it rained our entire stay. Independently we did the Church of Santa Maria. We had an included lunch at Castello della Paneretta; a winery that included wine tasting. The Cortona hotel was our favorite hotel of the trip. We stayed at the Villa Marsili. Stunningly gorgeous, and we had a very large room. ROME: We traveled to Rome by small bus, stopping in Assisi for a few hours along the way. We visited the St. Francis Basillica. Our hotel in Rome was Grand Hotel de la Minerve. It was located 10 yards from the Basilica of Maria Sopra Minerva, and 100 yards from the Pantheon (we visited both independently) Included tours: Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Campo di Fiore, Roman Forum, Colosseum, Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel. We also walked to see the Castel Sant’Angelo at night from the bridge. Beautiful! SORRENTO and the Amalfi Coast: This gorgeous area of Italy was our favorite area of the trip. We loved the food in southern Italy the most, although all of the food was great throughout our vacation. We drove the Amalfi Coast Highway (the “Mama Mia” Highway-so named for its very winding curves.) Our stay here was at the beautiful Hotel BelAir which is literally cut into the cliffs, so the views are absolutely amazing. Free view of Mt. Vesuvius every morning from the balcony! We took the ferry to Capri for the day. Luckily while we were waiting for the ferry, a gentleman by the name of Salvatore Cioffi offered to guide us on the island for a fee. This was worth every penny, and without his help we would have spent a lot of time wandering aimlessly around. His private transportation took us to Anacapri so we could ride the chairlift to the top of Mount Solaro. Stunning, and one of those “Wow” experiences. I highly recommend his tour services if you want to see this island in its totality. We also spent the morning at Pompei. Overall, we had the time of our lives on this celebrating retirement vacation. No company is perfect, but Queenslander is very close. The only discussion I heard from anyone throughout the trip was the comparison of individual hotel rooms. I believe everyone was happy with the hotels themselves, but some guests had suites, and some had smaller rooms than others, and it actually was quite simply the luck of the draw. The hotels themselves are limited in types of rooms available for groups. This really is not a Queenslander problem, but worth mentioning that guests will all have individually different rooms, and some rooms will be better than others. Queenslander Tours are worth the money spent in my opinion. Generally you get what you pay for, and I am so happy we made the decision to book with Queenslander. I’ll be happy to answer any questions about our trip. I remember this trip like it was yesterday...

Best of Italy
What an amazing experience!! Story Land and Sea took care of all of the arrangements and went above and beyond to have memorable experiences in every city we visited. The benefit of having a small group is the opportunity to get to know one another and became a tour family. If you are looking for a 5 star experience Story Land and Sea is the way to go.

More than just Italy
We used Story Land and Sea several years ago when they were called Queenslander and went on a small group tour to Italy. We (two couples) decided to take a trip to Costa Rica, but didn’t know where to begin. We didn’t want to navigate the roads and pick hotels in an area we were not sure of so we contacted Story Land and Sea. Instead of me doing all the research and booking all the hotels, transportation and outings, they did it all for me and it was first class all the way. I wrote one check and everything was taken care of. I will use Story Land and Sea for all my out of the country vacations.

Rome and Paris Personalized Tour
Story Land and Sea go above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience. This was our third trip with Story Land and Sea. We visited Tuscany for a family wedding and enlisted the help of Story Land and Sea with a side trip to Rome and a trip to Paris. Everything was perfect, from the drivers, the hotels to the personally guided tours in Italy and semi-private tours in Paris. The tour guides were personable and knowledgable and make you feel that you're touring with a great friend. The Story staff were available for requests and questions while travelling which provided a great sense of comfort. We look forward to our next trip with Story Land and Sea!

Italy At Its Best
This was a wonderful way to see Italy. Each city offered its own unique experience. We were a small group of ten fun-loving folks and the size of the group makes a big difference. Enjoyed every aspect of the trip. We had excellent tour guides in each city. The hotels were great, their locations were convenient to the sites, the food was plentiful and creative at cozy restaurants and there were so many surprises along the way. Having a knowledgeable tour captain that handled the details and who was available to dine with or offer other suggestions for things to do on a daily basis was a plus for me, being a solo traveler. I recommend Story Land and Sea without hesitation!

Great Honeymoon experience! Great Food, Culture, and People
We had an awesome honeymoon thanks to Story and Jodie. The trip was very well organized and every detail was taken care so we could have a stress free time. The hotels were definitely near all the must see things. The local expert guides were very knowledgeable and passionate about their culture in their region. The food was exceptional and all the dinning experiences were great. The welcome dinner and last dinner were very special. There were even a few surprise lunch aperitivos at the end of the morning tours that were pleasant. Our Tour Captain Jodie was exceptional. She made the trip more enjoyable with her passion for the Italian culture and her advice on things to do in each region. From the gondola ride with the music and singer in Venice to the great views in Cortona with a bottle of Prosecco, Jodie and Story went above and beyond to make our honeymoon special. I would definitely recommend them for any vacation, not only just Italy. Cannot wait for our next vacation with Story and Jodie!

Italy’s Greatest Cities!
Just returned from Italy’s Greatest Cities Tour with Story and I have nothing but compliments to share. The format of touring in the morning and having free time in the afternoon is ideal. That is plenty of time to see all the “must see” attractions and then go off on your own to explore, shop, nap, or get another gelato! I was so impressed by how seamless Story made the transportation and activities. When it was time to transport from one place to another the car, or boat, or train, was there. The guides were on time. Our tour captain Jodie was amazing! I could write a whole separate 5 star review on her! Story includes a lot of “surprises” along the way : aperitivos, treats, other niceties that made us feel special and cared for. Using the “Skip the line” to breeze right into the attractions was a blessing! The mid trip laundry service and not having to haul your luggage around was another plus! Everyone in our group loved the restaurants for the included dinners. We were given the option to order off the regular menu but none of us did. The tour selected choices had something to please everybody but also challenged you to eat outside your spaghetti with red sauce comfort zone. You must try cacio e Pepe in Rome!!!! Our family also added the Amalfi Coast extension and it was truly worth it. If you are on the fence, just add it!!! Our boat ride to Capri and time in beautiful Sorrrento was a great way to end the trip. We WILL be traveling with STORY again!!!!

Story Land and Sea's Italy's Great Cities Tour is simply AMAZING!!
We just finished our Italy's Great Cities Tour and WOW was it everything and more than we hoped for. David was absolutely the BEST at what he does, and what he does is share his knowledge and passion for travel, food, fun, gelato, history, people, and did I say food? HAHA! Our group of 6 was perfect!! We loved all the local tour guides who shared their expertise and actually enjoyed all the walking which allowed us to meander side streets and see "local" up close. The dining experiences were personal and heavenly. David knows EVERYBODY and they LOVE him!! The blend of cities with small towns allowed the pace to be just what it should be. I spent a lot of time choosing the right tour company and Story Land and Sea was definitely the right choice. We loved meeting Sarah who just joined Story and was "learning the ropes" of the tour. David took time to get a feel for the group and to make sure we all were pleased with everything. The choice of the Deluxe hotels was spot on. Loved being in the city centers so we could be immersed in it all. The magic portage and the mid trip laundry was such a great offering. From the moment we left home until the moment we returned we worried about NOTHING! Story had it all covered. GRAZIE!!!

Geat first Italy tour
Had a wonderful experience, exceptional hotels, delicious food and knowledgable guides. A great welcome to Italy with a good choice of locations at a pace that was moving and not exhausting. Having afternoons to choose your own activities is a great plan Rest if needed or suggestions of more great places to visit. The small group size is a winner for me.

Great Schedule, Great People, Great Food and Great Vacation!
I would definitely take a Story Tour again. It was very well organized, having a small group was especially nice. I really enjoyed the optional dinners at night. Our tour leader, Ryane, found friendly, convenient and delicious restaurants to try and it was nice to talk about our adventures during the day with our new friends.

Italy- the way it should be seen!
Our first trip to Italy with Story was so fun, so filled with laughter and the opportunity to meet new people. We were met when we arrived and from that point our luggage was handled and all our tours. Amazing tour captains. Each one different, but all full of knowledge and equipped to handle any unexpected events. We ate at great restaurants, saw beautiful places I never dreamed we would see. Storylandandsea is the best tour company we have ever traveled with. We have done 3 trips and have another scheduled. I would recommend this company to anyone who likes to have a fun time with 1st class service at a great price. You won’t be disappointed. Every person with Story is truly experienced. From the moment you arrive, your luggage is handled. The groups are always small, no more than 16. The tours are great and then plenty of time to do the things you would like to do on your own. I would never travel with another tour company. You will do small intimate dinners in wonderful small places, see unexpected sights. This is definitely not a commercial tour. This is designed to suit your needs. Fantastic hotels and the trip will be beyond your wildest dreams. Every day if filled with adventure and there is always time for shopping or anything else you would like to do on your own.
