- t0nybythesea0 contributionsLearn about the history of the island here.Great place to learn about the history of Sicily. Get a good guide and have them explain how the island has changed over the last 3000 years. This place is the perfect setting to learn it all and experience it.Written 25 September 2024
- SUNTAN470 contributionsA good tripVisited as part of a tour group with a local guide . A brilliant trip , lots to see & learn about . We had an audio set , so our guide walked & talked , keeping us in the shade as much as possible. She was interesting, informative, easy to understand & good to listen to The site has had some restoration but it has been well done . A good time & well worth the visit .Written 15 September 2024

- Giggleswick0 contributionsA building that has been continuous use for over 2,500 yearsThis building amazes as it has been a religious site for over 2,500 years. Starting as a temple to Athena, which you can still clearly see in the walls of the Cathedral. Well worth visiting.Written 30 June 2024
- Marf136690 contributionsIf you are visiting Sicily, the Valley of the Temples is manditory. The Valley of the temples is possibly the most important vestige of ancient classical culture in Sicily. It is comprised of temples to the gods, as well as a necropolis and other sanctuaries. The Temple of the Dioscuri (Castor & Pollux) with only four columns is the symbol of Agrigento. The Temple of Zeus was built to give thanks for the City's victory of the Carthaginians. Concordia is the best-preserved sacred building. A Statue of Icarus donated by Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj lies outside. Hercules Temple, the oldest, was destroyed in an earthquake and only 8 or 38 columns remain. The Temple of Juno houses the goddess of fertility. There are many more temples, too numerous to mention, located in this valley. This UNESCO Heritage site is a "MUST VISIT."Written 23 June 2024
- Chilemac0 contributionsMUST see preserved history in person!Incredibly impressive. The history and stories behind the temple remains is incredible. We hired a tour guide who provided incredible stories, answered questions, and showed us many depictions of the technique and tools used to build these structures. She showed us aqueducts and quarries across town that were visible from the national park. The guide was so well worth it. Temple Concordia was breathtaking!Written 11 May 2024
- Jerry341340 contributionsConcordia Temple - 2nd best preserved Greek temple in the world3 Greek temples with the Concordia Temple being the 2nd best preserved Greek temple in the world. See my other review for the hotel to stay at if your budget allows. Fantasic hotel and restaurant with a direct view of the Concordia TempleWritten 28 April 2024
- wanderlust4evermor0 contributionsBeautiful CathedralThis is a fascinating cathedral because you can still clearly see the columns from the Greek temple that was built here in the 5th century. The Christians simply re-purposed what was there and built the cathedral in the 7th century. You can visit in under an hour and it is well worth the time.Written 15 April 2024
- Kta19650 contributionsValley of the TemplesOur hotel arranged an English speaking guide for this visit, Sergio really knew his stuff and was very informative and enthusiastic. Worth having a guide. Lots to look at, in March quite quiet too. We added the gardens as well, also very peaceful.Written 23 March 2024
- Peterharris320 contributionsBeautiful CathedralThe name of this TripAdvisor listing is Catania, but it looks just like the Cathedral in Ortigia. The internet uses the term Baroque Architecture and, without looking it up, connotes in me, a Spanish or Arabic influence. Is easy to, as I, blinked and missed, the original Greek structure. I think it was the columns after entering into the vestibule. As with many of these religious buildings, it was clearly visible, the amount of work done to achieve the everlasting beauty.Written 3 November 2023
- 655phillipl0 contributionsIf you're into Ancient History, this is for youA large area, but easy to walk around, there are numerous ruins in various degrees of preservation, with the Temple of Concordia, the most well preserved and most impressive. Some of the ruins have clearly been renovated in parts, to show what they had been like, but that does not distract from the exhibits. Definitely worth a visit for history buffs, but you really need a guide to explain it all to you, to make sense. Can be busy, but over the large area, visitors will spread out.Written 15 October 2023
- N7718OPpaulb0 contributionsFantastic Greek structuresSuperb historical Greek temple site. Lots of history and suggest you have a guided tour to get the most out of the visit. Easy walking.Written 10 October 2023
- N7718OPpaulb0 contributionsAmazing structureAn amazing structure which has a history of being converted from an ancient monument into a Christian church. RecommendedWritten 5 October 2023
- Charles_and_Susan0 contributionsMany temples spread over the siteThis is a large site with several temples and ruins. Some of the temples have been restored to show how they would have been and you can see where columns, etc, have been put back together with the joining pieces clearly shown in most places. There are some information panels but not many. We had a guide with our group which was good. I think if you didn't have a guide it would certainly be worth buying the guide book. Lots to see over the site.Written 5 October 2023
- Scottington0 contributionsAmazing but needs a whole day!We decided to drive the 2 hour 30 minutes from Taomina to the Valley of Temples as we really wanted to visit during our holiday in Sicily and we were glad we did. Due to the drive we arrived at 12:45pm but luckily there was still plenty of spaces in the car park due to us being out of season. We paid at ticket office situated at the entrance and started our walk through the valley. There is just so much to see and a range of different temples/ruins is varying condition. There is a cafe for refreshments but I would also and the site seems never ending but interesting and enjoyable the whole way. Unfortunately as we had to do the drive back we didn't get chance to look round the whole site or the gardens which is also massive. Would definitely get there earlier and spend an entire day there to make sure you see and get round everything.Written 24 September 2023
