Itinerary
- 1After you meet with your guide you walk to one of the city’s top museums, the Accademia and there is no waiting in queues as with your skip-the-line access you head straight inside. The museum has many famous artworks, the most famous being of course the legendary, youthful statue of David, which became the enduring image of the Republic of Florence. Take time to walk around this collosal statue and appreciate its true magnificence from every angle. Cut from a single square of Carrara marble this masterpiece was executed when Michelangelo was in his mid-20’s. It is 17 feet (5.17 metres) tall and represents the biblical figure of David who slayed the giant Goliath. In 1504 this statue came to symbolize the defense of civil liberties embodied in the Republic of Florence. In addition to David the Accademia houses several incomplete works by Michelangelo as well as other artworks by Botticelli, Paolo Uccello and Andrea del Sarto to name a few. Take advantage of your guide’s encyclopedic knowledge and learn all about the wonderful treasurers of this splendid museum.

- Christina C0 contributionsWonderful walking tourMy husband, two teenage children, and I took this tour in June. Our tour guide (whose name I wish I could remember) was wonderful. We learned a lot about the Medici family, which was fascinating, And she even talked with my teenage daughter (a bookworm) about writers in Florence. We’d walked around the city on our own the day before, but had a better appreciation of the sights after the tour. And best of all, she could talk in detail about Michelangelo and about David, pointing out many different features from different angles. Even my teenage son enjoyed the tour. I was a bit concerned as there weren’t any recent reviews on this site, but I had no reason to worry. The guide was waiting for us at the appointed location, she was a professional tour guide who spoke perfect English, extremely knowledgeable, very friendly, and wanted to make sure we had a great experience. We really enjoyed our morning with her!Written 21 July 2022

She was extremely knowledgeable, patient, professional, and answered all of our questions. - Tazkatza0 contributionsBest way to see Pisa! This private tour of Pisa is the best way to navigate a very crowded area in the summer! Our guide Maria was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and passionate about the city. She also offered recommendations to local area restaurants. One of which we ate in and enjoyed. She also considered the needs of our group which included both teenagers and younger children.Written 20 July 2019
- Susancue0 contributionsPrivate walking tour of FlorenceWe had a very enjoyable tour with Emilia from Private tours. Emilia was punctual and respectful. She was very knowledgeable of the area and history of Florence and Florentine families. We skipped the line at the Academia and got a wonderful informative tour of David. Emilia includes charming antidotes and stories wherever she can during her tours. Emilia was happy to point out the best shops for jewelry and leather. We appreciated this very much as we did spend time shopping after our tour and lunch. Emilia walked us directly to a fantastic restaurant and made sure we had a table before she left. It was one of the best meals we had on our trip! I would enthusiastically recommend Private tours and most importantly Emilia who was a terrific tour guide.Written 11 July 2019

We needed a hotel close to the cruise dock in Miami but not overly expensive. I booked the Boutique Hotel 439 nw 4th ave a renovated old building with mixed reviews. From the outside not so inspiring. But inside nicely renovated, a step back in time of a slower pace life. Quiet neighborhood. Small room but very clean and nice appointments. Comfortable bed good hot water and WiFi. The only negative was there were no restaurant or grocery stores within walking distance that we could find. We really liked it and will stay there again if we leave out of Miami instead of Fort Lauderdale.

First off, it was pouring rain, really really raining.
We went to the Academia first, our guide was super knowledgeable about all of the art and not just David.
The fun began when we started the walking tour of Florence. Everyone had umbrellas, the guide was such a trooper, she never gave up. Most of the people on the tour bailed and left at different points of the trip because of the rain. We stayed until the end, and were so glad we did. We learned a lot about the history of the city, the architecture and the art.

This was our second visit to the Academia but the first for our travel companions. I thought a private tour would be easiest to do as we had a limited schedule to work around. We booked the tour knowing we'd have an Art Historian as our guide and were looking forward to what we would see and learn. Our hotel was too far away from the Hotel pick up route so we were asked to met at the Academia via email.
Stefania met us outside the Academia. She had a sign with my name on it which made it easy to find her! Stefania got us in quickly (skip-the-line-entry) and gave us all information about entering the security area then we were off on our tour. We began in the Medieval Painting area where she talked about the history of the collection, time periods it covered and the history of the building itself as a hospital originally! Stefania focused on a few highlights and gave us in depth information about art philosophy and the historical significance of the works we were seeing, the artists and their particular techniques. We them moved to the Instrument museum where she spoke about the Di Medici family and their influence on the city's business, arts and government. Then we moved on to the Sculpture rooms and learned about Michaelangelo and his sculpture techniques (which I hadn't learned about on a previous visit). We spent a good bit of time analyzing the famous "David" details and the philosophy of "mannerism"! This was fascinating to see it in his works.
We then visited other sculptures and galleries with church icons with earlier works of art. This tour was the perfect length for us as we were still adjusting to the time change. Stefania was accommodating, warm friendly and made sure we could hear her. She was patient with our questions and so informative! I would highly recommend you request her if she is available! Thank you Stefania!!
