About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- yomari850 contributionsA waste of timeThe first vineyard was a bit boring, we didn't get to see any actual vineyard at all, we just spent in indoors and at the end a few minutes in the garden, you'd expect they offer you at least one glass but they don't, if you want you'll have to buy it The second vineyard was much nicer but we arrived at after sunset so we couldn't see anything, we should've came to the second vineyard first to enjoy the outdoors and the vineyards I thought it's a waste of time to be honest,Written 3 December 2024

- K7914IKsarahb0 contributionsFamily fun in Florence!Matthew and Stefano were spectacular. Matthew was a legit long time chef born and raised in Florence and took time to explain all the steps with story telling to go along about his life in Florence. Took 3 children in their twenties and we laughed the whole time. We made the most delicious Ragu and tomato sauce with Tagliatelle and Ravioli. We will surely use the recipes again and again and will think of this experience! Unforgettable Florence experience! Do with your family and / or friends!!Written 1 December 2024
- J6742SQbridgetm0 contributionsGreat morning of cooking and local cultureReally lovely cooking morning with the ciao team. We had a nice mix of people from different countries and made some lovely recipes. We particularly liked the traditional ragu bolognaise which was completely different to how we make it in England but delicious and rich. The tiramisu could have done with some alcohol but again maybe that is a British thing! Overall a lovely morning and a break from all the great sights seeing in Florence.Written 30 November 2024

This was a lovely half day experience that was well organized. However, our experience was tainted by the rowdy study abroad students who were yelling on the bus and talking over the tour guide and sommeliers. They were clearly hungover and someone threw up on the bus ride to the first winery. They were also yelling on the hour drive home and overall disrupting the group. In the future, I think it would be helpful for the tour guide to set expectations regarding behavior, and to enforce those expectations. It was overall a very well planned trip that ended up being very unpleasant due to the groups impolite behavior and poor control of the group.
If you are considering going on this trip, I would recommend a weekday morning when these students are in class as opposed to the Saturday afternoon experience we booked.

Dear Customer,
Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate any information in order to improve our service.
When clients book with us, we don’t know who they are and we surely can’t refuse any reservation. Florence is a very popular destination for young people who want to study abroad and they also want to discover Tuscany and its beauty and culture. We are trying our best to form groups for the wine tasting in order to make everyone happy and satisfied.
In any case, we will inform our tour leaders about this and forward them your feedback in order to prevent such situations.
We still hope you enjoyed your time with us.
We wish you a nice day.
Best regards,
CiaoFlorence Staff

Our bus AC was broken from the moment we got in. All the passengers complained and they were obliged to stop in the middle of a gas station at 40 degrees celcius (104F). Half of the passengers arranged to get back in Florence because fot sick of the high temperatures. a new bus only came after two hours and they had to reschedule two different visits which were completed very fast. The first vineyard experience was very poor, very little quantity of 3 wines tasted and they offered just olive oil in a plate with some pieces of bread. The second one Poggi al Lago was a great experience but was very short because the staff was in a hurry to get us back in Florence. The staff was not very polite, did not gave as instructions on what was about to happen with our reservation. It was our tour guides (Viola or Valentina because she used both names ) first time and she get lost and couldnt deal with the difficulties.
We lost all our reservations for the night in Florence because got back very late. A total waist of time, money and energy in a middle of a very hot summer day.

Good overall experience. Long coach journey to the first venue with okay views along route. Cannot hear the lady on the coach at all, so missed all the information she was giving - would recommend a stronger microphone or some other method.
The first tasting was nice, 3 small red wines to try & some small bits of food. Food passed around in a big bowl, which wasn’t the best as everyone hands in the same bowl etc.
Second vineyard (Poggio Amorelli) was excellent. The guide was very enthusiastic and really turned the trip around! Tasted 3 large glasses of wine, also had a plate of local cheese and meats to try each, where the guide talked through how the wine taste changes based on food etc. tried traditional olive oil and traditional balsamic vinegar. Also, grappa to try & a sweet wine from the shop. Gorgeous selection of wines to try - so much so, we bought 6 bottles to ship home. Views from the vineyard were beautiful. Steep walk up from the coach, but manageable and only short.
Not sure would do the organised trip again, as it’s more time on the coach then at the vineyards and the first vineyard lacked lustre - but would highly recommend going to the second vineyard on its own! No bar or area to buy a glass of wine and enjoy the surroundings or taste more wines at your leisure / test your new found knowledge, which is what we loved about other winery tours we’ve done (Mornington peninsular in Melbourne Australia, saint Emillion in Bordeaux France)

Absolutely loved our wine tasting trip! I would say the second vineyard Tenuta Torciano was by far better than the first. Our driver Lucca also did a scenic stop to take pictures in front of the rolling hills. Anna our guide was lovely, came to meet each of us personally and gave lots of historical information along the way. Coach ride is 1hr 15 there and about 1hr back but they do provide water for €1. You got small plates of meat bread and cheese in each vineyard. First we tried 3 wine and the second 5! Beautiful settings, would definitely recommend!

Christian was our guide today, we could not have been happier with the tour. He was so knowledgeable about the region, the history, and the wines and he made every stop enjoyable. We had time to visit a third winery, and Christian arranged it on the spot. Each visit brought new insights into the rich culture of the region along with a fabulous wine tasting experiences. Then, to cap it off, we were able to make a quick stop at the Plaza Michelangelo, Christian’s idea. Perfect way to end a truly enjoyable day. Our thanks to Christian and to Ciao Florence!

The trip was well organised and easy to check in and get on the coach. The journey to the first vineyard was about 50 minutes. The first vineyard we tasted several Prosecco with a choice of sweet or dry, two reds, a stronger wine with a almond biscuit. We didn’t get to try the olive oil. It was not as informative as the second winery and I felt it was a bit rushed. We got to chat to a lovely family from Connecticut which was a highlight. We stayed about an hour then it was 35 minutes to the next winery which started with a viewing of the grape fields and then lots of history about the winery. We tried a white wine and three red wines with some cheese, meat and crackers. This was not seated but the lady who gave us the tour was very friendly and informative. We stayed about an hour. There was options to buy wine and balsamic vinegar which we did purchase. Then a hours drive back to Florence. Overall a brilliant experience.
Make sure you have breakfast before you go and watch for people taking extra food before you’ve had any.

Tour guide was too passive, not so much information given and quiet most of the time. The group was too big. First winery was so-so, second winery was better but very disorganized, no seating place and everyone grabbed the wine and snacks with no clear queue or instruction. Nothing special and not memorable at all.

This was a nice tour to view landscape of the Chianti region and taste some of the wines produced here. It’s an hour plus bus ride from Florence to the first vineyard and the views are always spectacular along the way. Another short ride to the second stop. The wines at the second vineyard, Tenuta Torciano, were very nice but the views at the first stop were beautiful. Our guide Marina was very nice and friendly but could have added so much more to the trip with more commentary…. Especially for those touring Chianti for the first time. For example, we passed by an American WW II cemetery (we have visited on another drive) that would have been a nice topic of conversation but there was no mention. She also really discouraged calling a taxi for us upon our return. So we walked to a nearby hotel to have them call a taxi to take us to our dinner reservation about a mile away. In summary, it was a nice, inexpensive way to spend an afternoon outside of Florence.

This is large group tour where they fill at least 4 busses filled with people like sardines. You spend over half the time in a bus driving to, in between and back home from the vineyards. The first stop was amazing but the second stop was below average. Neither served very much wine.. I would expect more given how much time we spent getting there. I would have preferred a smaller group where we could have a more personal experience.
